Olive Farm

40 sites · RVs, Tents100 acres · Murroon, VIC
Welcome to the Olive Farm! We are a working olive farm situated on the edge of the Otway Ranges, between Deans Marsh and Birregurra, 25 minutes to Lorne and the Great Ocean Road, and only a few kilometers from the famous Brae Restaurant. We are in a beautiful part of the world, so please remember to bring a toilet and take all your rubbish with you when you leave. Dogs are welcome, but please be aware that we are full of kangaroos, sheep, and other wildlife, so they may need to be placed on a leash for the safety of fellow campers and wildlife. Fires are permitted in fire pits, and wood is available to purchase on-site. We have a fragile ecosystem here, so we ask not to bring in wood and to purchase it off the farm. Olive oil from 2023 is available, and table olives harvested this year are in brine, ready to jar up. The table olives we have are Kalamata, Spanish Queens, and Jumbo Kalamata.

Mt Martha Bushland Hideaway

3 sites · RVs, Tents5 acres · Mount Martha, VIC
This property was originally part of a large farmland, divided into 5 acre lots. When we purchased in 1997, there wasn't a single tree on the place. Over the years, we have revegetated the property with native and indigenous bushland, created a wetland that attracts many native animals including birds, lizards, possums and frogs to name a few. Enjoy a hidden country escape on our 5 acre property on the Mornington Peninsula. Property features a wetland with jetty, roaming peacocks, chickens and sheep in an open woodland setting. A relaxed country atmosphere conveniently located near beaches, wineries, op shops and restaurants. Up to 3 sites available (max 1 caravan/camper or 2 tents/dwellings per site) Ideal for groups or individual campers. Our property is surrounded on two sides by reserve, the Balcombe Creek and bushland. BYO gear and set up in the paddock. We will meet you on arrival and direct you to the campsites. Access to a flushing toilet and a cold water tap/cold water shower with potable drinking water. We prefer no dogs due to peacocks and sheep and our own dogs... but please ask before booking anyway, and we will accommodate on a case-by-case basis. We are a 5 to 10-minute drive to the beautiful bay beaches of Mornington and Mt Martha and a 20-minute drive to Westernport bay and the surf beaches. Close to the nearly 60 wineries on the Mornington Peninsula, an abundance of restaurants, Peninsula Hot Springs and other attractions such as Arthurs Sea Eagle cable car, Enchanted Maze Garden, and many amazing bush walks.

Forest Valley Hideaway

3 sites · RVs, Tents25 acres · Anakie, VIC
Welcome to our quiet, peaceful bush retreat in Anakie - home to kangaroos, wallabies, echidnas, and many possum species. Whether you're here for bushwalking, gold-panning, bike riding, wineries or just to escape, you'll find it at all. We're 6km from Del Rios Winery - MAGNIFICENT- and about the same from Fairy Park. Anakie Gorge isn't much further, and the You Yangs are about 15 minutes drive away. The historic township of Steiglitz is only 5 minutes drive away the opposite direction down De Motts Road. You'll find nice bushwalks here too. Austin's winery is also only 15mins away. The Great Ocean Road is 45mins drive away. We have a number of campsites, where we welcome self-contained campers, so you must have your own camp loo and take all waste with you. We also have a lovely cottage which can be found on G maps and HeirBnB, for those who would like a little extra comfort. Campfires can be lit during non-fire-ban periods (winter), using our abundance of firewood. When you arrive, the driveway splits, and you can go right, following the post and rail fence past the enclosed veggie patch, between the chook shed to the site next to the water tanks. Or, follow the steep 4x4 road (we've taken our 2WD REAR wheel wheel drive cars down without a problem, but front wheel drive cars really struggle coming back up) down to the dam, and turn left up the valley to pitch a tent anywhere you like. Just don't block the road through because we use it too. You can walk all the way up the valley, back up to the driveway. Oreo (Red Kelpie, 8) and Stitch (Whippet x Kelpie, 3) will find you at some stage when you're setting up or visiting the Chooks up near the house. Our Alpacas don't like dogs, and are wary of little kids on their own if you go in to their paddock to pat them, so please be mindful. You're better off staying out of their paddock. They're also fairly fussy eaters, but you're welcome to feed them!

Not too far from here you will find the You Yangs, which are the geological signature to Melbourne's western horizon. This low-lying mound of hills is a truly ancient upwelling of granite, having formed more than 350 million years ago. There are some great places here to explore, with options for mountain bike trails, horse-riding trails, orienteering areas, picnic grounds and even a nearby paint ball place! Your dog is welcome. Campfires permitted (when not in fireban season). Camping near Geelong guide

Overview

Victoria’s second-largest city lies south-west of Melbourne, on the western side of Port Phillip, which it shares with the capital. It’s significantly smaller than nearby Melbourne so offers a more peaceful, less urban option for campers and nature lovers. As well as having its own beaches in the bay, a waterfront promenade, and an outdoor saltwater bath, Geelong is a great starting or ending point of the famous Great Ocean Road. This road trip is one of Australia’s finest, and campers are spoilt for choice in the Great Otway National Park and the small towns along the road. Campers can also find many holiday parks around Geelong and its neighbouring small towns.

Where to go

Great Otway National Park

South-west of Geelong, the Great Otway National Park is a worthwhile stop for travellers driving the Great Ocean Road. The park is divided into four main sections, and there are campsites and camping facilities available in each, as well as in the neighbouring Otway State Forest and the towns and villages adjacent to the park. Whether you’re looking for a beach, forest, river, or lakeside camp, you can find it in the Otways. Bookings are required for campsites in the park’s west.

Torquay

Just south of Geelong, Torquay is located on Zeally Bay—keep going south across the Bass Strait from here and you’ll reach the western tip of Tasmania. The seaside town is a great destination for beach-loving campers, especially surfers and hikers. Torquay is on the eastern end of the Great Ocean Road, so is a good alternative starting/ending point to Geelong. Find caravan parks right beside the beach.

Sorrento and Point Nepean National Park

On the western tip of the Mornington Peninsula, the town of Sorrento and the Point Nepean National Park are separated from Geelong and the western towns of Port Phillip by a narrow channel. Ferries depart from Queenscliff, a half-hour drive south-east of Geelong, every hour, and take about 40 minutes. Bike or hike along the beautiful coastal landscape of the national park, or dine and shop in Sorrento. There’s a foreshore campsite in the town.

When to go

Geelong is a year-round destination, with hot summers and mild, often wet winters. Campers can enjoy driving the Great Ocean Road at any time of year, but camping will be most comfortable in the cooler spring or autumn. For beachside camping in Geelong or nearby Torquay, Sorrento, and other coastal towns, summer is the best time, but make sure to book your spot in holiday parks in advance.
