Pity about the neighbours.
Pros: A lovely, private patch of land with plenty of flat areas and great views. Right next door to a picnic area with running water, a gas BBQ and the entrance to the Anakie Gorge walk (and long drops).
Plus lots of unique wildlife.
Cons: It adjoins a Working Farm. That means I was treated to 2 solid days of whining drones, chainsaws, a truck that sounded like a small plane taking off (I think it was stuck in second gear), water pumps running throughout the evening... and speaking of evenings: a 2 hour fox hunt; with shotguns.
And that's aside from the ambient noise of distant traffic, a dozen Cessna's overhead and people yelling at dogs. Oh and burnouts filling half the property with dust.
The usual sort of thing.
Conclusion: as a base camp for exploring the area it's ideal. Take some noise cancelling headphones and by about 8 or 9 o'clock the whole place goes quiet.
It should also be said that the noise drops off sharply once you enter the Gorge proper.
The noise makers are late risers and Day 3 was dead quiet, so maybe you'll get lucky.
Oh and don't stand around outside at night: there are dozens of trapdoor spiders all over the ground. They weren't interested in my tent or car and kept a wide perimeter but they were everywhere else. Not aggressive but will stand their ground.
They're easy to spot as their eyes glint like dewdrops in the torchlight.
