We really enjoyed camping at Habitats. The check in and staff were very friendly and it was extremely easy. It is a very safe campsite with so much nature. Our kids loved watching and listening to all the animals around. The water was great and as we enjoyed paddling around the lake. All of the amenities were clean and it was great to try the beers at the bar. We had a huge amount of rain on our second night and our site in the Gums area held up well although we did see a lot of puddles around other sites. Some of the other sites also looked quite close to each other so if you aren’t afraid to walk further to the amenities and water I would recommend booking in The Gums area.

My man and I loved tent camping along the water. The sunset views and starry nights were to die for. So peaceful and the ladies who run the stay were absolutely wonderful. While packing up my car wouldn't start so they came down and fixed my car. Dogs were so cute and my puppy had an amazing time swimming in the dam. As a young couple with a dog, this place was perfect.

We enjoyed our camp at The Gum Trees, spacious and grassy. The whole facility is kept tidy and there was easy access for a coffee and food before walking about the magnificent acreage of the Habitat and nearby Lake Cootharaba. We frequently enjoyed the presence of ducks, wallabies and goannas/monitor lizards wandering past our camp spot.

We all loved staying at Glen’s beautiful property on the banks of the Mary River. The grounds were immaculate and there were lovely trees for shade or open areas for the pups to run around on. Stayed in gums area with breezes and views thru trees of lake and lots of grassy room. We enjoyed kangaroos and bird life. The cruise out onto mirror still lake with canoeing and swimming in Everglades definitely worth doing- half day $160.00. Camping grounds kept clean , access to air conditioned bistro and bar was a bonus - especially during hotter days. Plentiful hot showers and toilets ,dump site , bins and filtered water also available.Would return there and would recommend to others. Thanks to staff for a great stay.

When to go

The busiest seasons on the Sunshine Coast are during the summer school holidays (December and January) and around Easter. At those times, you’ll need to book as far ahead as you can. The weather is great year-round, with temperatures averaging 28C (82F) in summer and 20C (68F) in winter.

Know before you go

Rainbow Beach is a legally gazetted road for 4WD vehicles only, where road rules and speed limits must be followed.
The closest National Park campsites to Rainbow Beach are at Poverty Point and Freshwater, which has both tent and trailer camping.
Sand tobogganing is banned within Great Sandy National Park.
Camping permits are required for all Queensland parks, forest and reserves and must be booked online and paid for before arrival.
