Weekend Trip to Serenity Caravan Park Hervey Bay

We had a lovely time at the Serenity Caravan Park! Late check in was easy as - a handy note left on the office door - and Rob was super friendly and there were lots of lovely little chats with him and other park visitors over the weekend. It was also only a short stroll down to Goody’s on the Beach and the Salty Squid Cafe for coffees and dinner, or to the beachfront across the road. Very well kept spot and beautiful little town 🙂

Weekend Trip to Bucca Country River Retreat

We recently stayed at Bucca County River Retreat and absolutely loved our time there. If you’re looking for a calm, quiet spot surrounded by nature, this is the perfect getaway. The site locations are beautifully spread out, offering plenty of space and privacy, whether you’re in a tent, caravan, or one of their self-contained ensuite cabins. The facilities are top-notch — the toilets and amenities were exceptionally clean and well-maintained throughout our stay, which made the experience even more comfortable. A big thank you to our host, Sarah, who welcomed all of us so warmly. Her hospitality really made us feel at home and added a personal touch to our stay. It’s a serene riverside retreat not too far from Bundaberg — perfect for families, couples, or solo travellers wanting to unwind in nature

Weekend Trip to Paradise Lost on the Burnett

Paradise Lost on the Burnett was a wonderful camping spot. The camping sites were spacious and were shady. We were camped right beside the river and there was good access to the water for fishing or kayaking, it was a lovely peaceful spot.

Awesome spot! Campfires, fishing, crabbing, prawns! Can launch boat at high tide or put in at Howard boat ramp and motor around (10min to camp) we tied up to the jetty while we were there! Cows were great fun to feed! Highly recommend!

Weekend Trip to Kolan River Retreat

Firstly getting to Peter and Melinda‘s place is very easy but make sure that you have a good understanding of where you’re going as there is only one bar of 4G network in the area which could cut out just before you get there. 😉 At first no internet was ‘different’ but it made us get away from it all - which was good. Peter met us at the gate, thanked us for staying in contact before we came (important) and explained the retreat to us in detail. What a nice bloke! Peter takes the time to explain his property, the huge areas on offer and what and where of the amenities. There’s even a firewood stall just on the way in where you can buy firewood by the bag for $10. There are two main areas that you can set up camp. The flats which is very close to the rivers edge and mangroves and what we called ‘the high country’ near the boat ramp which has plenty of green grass. The camping up near the boat ramp gets quite busy with people launching and retrieving their boats and is a smaller more compact area. This area is perfect if you have a small tinny and you wish to get out fishing on the river. We stayed on the large grassed flats and placed ourselves up the northern end which had a grassed, sandy and flat base. Make sure you have sand pegs if you’re staying on the flats. There’s so much room it’s easy to find space to be all by yourselves - or bring a big group. There are fire pits which the hosts request you use and at night the stars come out. We thoroughly recommend…

Had quite afew people camped around the area but honestly it didn't feel crowded at all. Nice big area to camp at. The bar was awesome and so much better than expected. Price for a beer was cheaper than a schooner at the pub! Bushy brought the wood straight to my camp and was a awesome fella. Live music was great. Will definitely be coming back with mates to enjoy.

Lovely spot! Nice and spacious between sites for more privacy, close to the Burrum river where we fished. Grounds are well kept, nice clean facilities and lovely host! We camped with our dog and had no issues. They have fire pit provided and you can choose from many camp spots, some with large solid wood picnic tables! Will stay again for sure!

Coonarr Creek Camp And Canoe

Easily accessible property with flat areas for camping and or caravans. Front of block is well grassed with some shade. You walk down through some dry rainforest towards the back of the block which fronts onto Coonarr Creek. There is a small fire pit and also a large one which can be used when it’s the right conditions I.e not too windy and or dry. There is a toilet, shower and camp kitchen if necessary. The block is located very close to the boat ramp where you can launch canoes, kayaks,sup’s and small tinnies. The block is also a 5 minute drive to beautiful Coonarr Beach, which is suitable for swimming and fishing. Coonarr Creek is also suitable for fishing either off the bank or from a craft. Kangaroos are some of the resident wildlife and are often seen around the property and adjacent areas. Located approximately 20 minutes from Bundaberg city and all other attractions in the area. Recommended to bring personal insect repellent and or coils etc.

We have a beautiful hobby farm on 2 and a half acres. Camping is at the front of the property where you will find vegie gardens and fruit trees. There is also a fire pit (plenty of firewood available), a trampoline and a games shed with toilet, shower and kitchenette facilities. You can purchase free range eggs in half dozen and full dozen when available, and drinks. Please ask on check-in. 200m to boat ramp with river perfect for water skiing, jet skiing, tubing and freshwater fishing (licence required as this is a stocked impoundment). On opposite side of river is Sandy Hook Boat Club where major water skiing and power boat races are held throughout the year. Located between Bundaberg and Gin Gin. Bundaberg has attractions such as the Bundy Rum Distillery, Ginger Beer Factory, a free zoo, Mon Repos Turtle Centre, lower Great Barrier Reef cruises to Lady Musgrave Island for snorkelling, great beaches some with 4WD access. Gin Gin is on the main highway to head north or south. Easy access from here to National Parks for walks and 4WDing. Being a hobby farm we have sheep which get fed every afternoon between 4 and 5. There are also chickens that free range around the campsite. Swimming pool available on request and children MUST be supervised.

We have horses and cattle and it is a quiet and peaceful spot to kick back and relax. The Avondale Pub is 1km away with great meals and drinks, and the Bucca Pub is 10 minutes away with weekend entertainment. Jo's road house is just up the road and has all the essentials food wise with great pizzas, and fuel. Next to Jo's is an RACQ centre and mechanics. All this at your fingertips or just kick back and enjoy the peace and quiet in amongst the large gum trees and native lemon scented gums. Please note: no late arrivals after 6pm please.

This little piece of paradise, on the southern bank of Baffle Creek, is a great place to fish from the bank or launch your boat, crab, swim (in our dam), relax and enjoy the peace while watching the wildlife. Choose the unique modern self-contained Lodge or bring your caravan/camper/rooftop/swag/tent and book a camp site. There are 10 large family sized powered sites with a firepit available for each site (no water connection) situated near the dam. Access to, Hot showers (Small fee applies), Flushing toilets, Washing Machine (Small fee per load) and a Camp kitchen. The powered sites are approximately 400m from the riverbank. Confirming there are no water connections to these sites, please fill your tanks prior to coming, however; fresh water is available for drinking. Select Powered. Head to Kellys Beach to swim, surf, or stand-up paddleboard; watch loggerhead turtles hatching along the beach at Mon Repos Turtle Centre; or tee off at the coastal golf course, then stop at a café along The Esplanade to take in the views. Bundaberg Region

Just a 15-minute drive inland, Bundaberg is home to the famous Bundaberg Rum Distillery and Bundaberg Ginger Beer factory. After sampling the local beverages, enjoy canoeing or fishing along the Burnett River, go birdwatching around the wetlands of Bingera National Park, or explore the bushwalking trails of Elliott River State Forest.

Fraser Coast

South of Bargara, sandy beaches, fishing villages, and national parks tempt travellers to the Fraser Coast. Fraser Island is the star attraction, and there’s great beach camping in the Great Sandy National Park, but you can also set out along the Great Beach Drive (4WD only) from Rainbow Beach or take a whale-watching cruise from Hervey Bay.

Great Barrier Reef

Bargara is the gateway to the southern Great Barrier Reef, where you can snorkel and scuba dive around the islands and coral reefs. Fly out to Lady Elliott Island to snorkel amid manta rays, go whale-watching, or take a glass-bottom boat cruise. Or, for a bush camping experience, cruise to Lady Musgrave Island and pitch your tent at Capricornia Cays National Park.

When to go

The sun is always shining in southeast Queensland, so beach days are enjoyable year-round. Time your visit for November through March to watch loggerhead turtles nesting and hatching along Bargara’s beaches or from August through October to spot whales around Lady Elliot Island. Great Barrier Reef tours are possible year-round, but May to October is peak season.
