Established in late 2020, with over 1000 native species planted it is slowly emerging as an eco sanctuary. More than 50 different cold climate seasonal vegetables and flowers are grown on 3 acres and sold at the Bathurst Farmers' Markets, as well as from the farm gate shop and box deliveries around town. Looking for some peace and tranquility? We'd love for you to enjoy a spot in front of our creek on our 53 acre property, Brazenhead, which is surrounded by 1.3kms of the Winburndale Rivulet. Brazenhead is a 15 minute drive to the closest shops, 20 minutes into Bathurst, 30 minutes from Sofala and 1 hour from the historic Hill End. There is ample space for groups, with wide open spaces but also plenty of trees for shade. Fires are permitted in the spots provided and according to local fire restrictions. The creek is a good spot to try some gold panning, go exploring and also has some deep swimming holes for you to enjoy. Pitch your tent or pull up your camping vehicle next to our creek! You will have complete privacy, only the kangaroos and other wildlife to share your trip with. There is plenty of space for the kids to run around, kick a ball, play some cricket, or go exploring along the creek during the day. In the evenings everyone can sit and relax in the quiet in front of a campfire. We welcome only self-contained campers who bring their own camping toilet/shower. The campsite is 2WD accessible with plenty of room and flat space to camp on. Not far from our property you can find the Bridle Track, which is very well known by 4WD enthusiasts. It was originally built as the first road between Bathurst and Hill End during the gold rush era, and was given its name due to horsemen having to dismount and guide their horses by the bridle through the very narrow sections. If you visit in November you may be here for the annual Marmalade Festival, with good weather, musicians, stalls and of course jams and marmalades! No pets please.

We are working small family farm only 5 km north of Orange and home to the Williewarrina Poll Hereford Stud. With an ample vegie garden, we are happy to supply you with some of our in seasonal produce, fresh eggs and home made bread for breakfast. We offer only one spacious camp site at a time with stunning views overlooking grape vines to the east of our farm. If the weather is a touch damp - which it is inclined to be in winter in Orange - we can offer you the shelter of our very large hay shed. It will easily fit a caravan and vehicle with room to spare. It will keep your gear dry and your camp site cosy. After a busy day of visiting the vineyards of Orange you are able to relax around the campfire, whether you're camped under the hay shed or not, and take in the serenity. If you wish, you can accompany us on a cattle experience with both our herefords and highlands, feeding and grooming them (weekends only). You are welcome to try your luck in our dam if you have your own fishing gear. Pets are welcome but we do have livestock on the property, as do our neighbours, so please keep them under control. Unfortunately we don't have any toilets or amenities at this point so you will need to be fully self contained and take your waste away.

4WD only (clearance of 20cm+ needed). Rocklee is on Wiradjuri land, a short drive from Capertee, surrounded by Gardens of Stone and Capertee national parks and the Mugii Murrum-ban State Conservation Area. Rocklee is 2.5 hours from Sydney and Dubbo, and a short drive to swimming at Turon and Coorongooba National Parks, sightseeing at Glen Davis, bird watching near Glen Alice and the terrific cafe ‘From the Paddock’. Access is 4wd only. (We’re serious!) Our road has ‘roll overs’, rocks and a couple of tight turns on large gradients) on so you need a vehicle with 20cm+ clearance. If you are towing a camper trailer, you need a good 4wd engine to get back up the hill confidently. Each campsite is a VERY long way from other sites - usually about 800m. Rocklee has a mix of no-longer used paddocks and about 950 acres of untouched bush. You will arrive through the conservation area, which has beautiful pagodas and endless bushwalks. Rocklee is a good site for star gazing. Hipcampers can choose from plenty of space where they'd like to set up camp. Please be careful as some paddocks are overgrown, fences have come down and there are lots of wombat holes, so drive slowly and be careful. There are no amenities here, campers need to be self contained and leave no trace. This means you need to bring water, use exisiing fireplaces and take your rubbish, recycling and compost with you. (You need to bring water from home or elsewhere on the way. Please note you cannot fill up free tap water at Capertee - either at the BP, the picnic area or the pub. It just doesn’t rain enough to fill up the tanks. Sorry!)

Sorry!)

Where to go

Bathurst Region

The sloping hills and valleys of NSW’s Central Tablelands harbor a rich history. Get a taste of gold rush fever as you explore 19th-century gold mines at Hill End, visit Sofala and Wattle Flat, or try your hand at gold fossicking along Tambaroora Creek. Seeking an outdoor adventure? Discover the Abercrombie Caves, hike the summit of Evans Crown, or explore the 4WD trails of Winburndale Nature Reserve.

Blue Mountains

East of Bathurst, the Blue Mountains are a natural playground for hikers and mountain bikers. Must-see natural wonders include the Three Sisters, Wentworth Falls, and the Jenolan Caves, and there are endless options for bushwalking and camping. Nearby,  Capertee National Park is a hotspot for rock climbing, while the Wollemi National Park has glowworm caves, kayaking tours, and bush camping.

Orange Wine Region

Less than an hour’s drive west, the green hills of the Orange region are a patchwork of vineyards and orchards. Stop at boutique wineries to sample the region’s cool-climate wines, dine at country restaurants with a view over the vineyards, or visit the historic villages of Carcoar and Lyndhurst. The most impressive views are from above—nearby Canowindra is famous for its hot air balloon tours.

When to go

Bathurst has four distinct seasons, but the weather rarely hits extremes, and outdoor activities are possible year-round with the right gear. Summer (December through February) is busiest, and the sunny days are ideal for wine tasting or water sports around the lakes. The small town draws huge crowds for the annual Bathurst 1000 (October) and Bathurst 12 Hour (February) motor races—book well in advance if visiting at this time.

Know before you go

  • Bathurst has bus and train links to Sydney, but having your own transport is useful for exploring the national parks.
  • Bathurst has a small selection of shops where you can pick up camping gear and stock up on supplies.
  • Fire bans are common during summer and dry periods, so check local recommendations before lighting a campfire and always use designated fire pits.
  • A permit is required to camp within NSW’s national parks, and campsites must be booked in advance.
