The Railroad Grade Road was built on an old rail line which was referred to as the Virginia Creeper Line. It once provided service from West Jefferson and Todd, primarily for hauling trees and lumber. Once the trees were gone, the rail line was abandoned.

The Kelley Family bought the property in 2003. The Brooks family owned the land from the earliest 1800's.  Connie & Nerce Brooks were the last of  the Brooks family to live on the property and there are great stories from neighbors in regards to both.

So you've gotta climb a ladder to get to the beds in the main cabin area, which I pretended was like a Class 3 climb as I was trying to find motivation to go down and make breakfast.
