The Navasota River Ranch

16 sites ¡ RVs, Tents600 acres ¡ Navasota, TX
The Navasota River Ranch is a 600 ac parcel of land bounded by more than a mile of the Navasota River on its west side and two tributary creeks on its north and southeast sides. The river bottom is wild and untamed, while the rest is rolling hills reminiscent of the prairie that once greeted settlers. Nearby is Bryan-College Station home of Texas A&M University To the west on Hwy 105 is Washington on the Brazos State Park. This is the location where delegates gathered to hastily draw up a declaration of independence before joining the Runaway Scrape to avoid capture and execution by the advancing Mexican Army. Farther down the road is the famous Blue Bell creamery in Brenham. The tour and ice cream are well worth the trip. On the property are miles of Jeep trails excellent for off road and 4WD vehicles. Guests might prefer hiking along these trails or strike out on foot trails and game trails. Thanks to the hunters who have come for the deer and feral hogs over the years there are numerous observation structures for viewing wildlife up close, or just enjoying the solitude of the deep woods. Three ponds offer bass and perch fishing from the bank or bring your own boat. And then there is the Navasota River...

Buck Acres near Lake Conroe, TX

20 sites ¡ RVs, Tents6 acres ¡ Montgomery, TX
The previous owner had plans to turn our property into a 42 site row by row RV Park. Once we saw the beauty of the property, we knew we had to keep it as wild and pristine as possible. On 6.5 acres the perfect number of sites was 18 keeping the large house for short-term rental (coming soon.) Sorry, we are still under construction but excited about our progress! See a short video at https://www.buckacresrv.com Buck Acres is technically not even an RV park, we just want to share our property with fellow travelers so we added some gravel roads. The only amenities are a Wi-Fi, 50/30/20A plug-ins, a porta-john and water. We use HipCamp and The Dyrt for bookings or just give us a call or text at (832) 303-9940 "Close to everything, away from it all" We're in the country but close to city amenities and beautiful Lake Conroe. It's only a few minutes from April Sound and the largest marina on Lake Conroe, 8 minutes to Wal-Mart and Kroger, yet it's peaceful and quiet on our forested property. As full-time RV nomads ourselves we know RV park rates are getting crazy, Buck Acres is our attempt to help the community. We've done everything we can to keep rates down. The only amenities we offer are shade, Wi-Fi, electricity, water, and an ADA porta john that is cleaned every week. Affordable RV parks shouldn't be sweltering parking lots where you're packed in like sardines! At Buck Acres we have 100' tall hardwoods and pines that have been trimmed up 60' for the safety of you and your rig! Buck Acres is still under construction and it is a labor of love. All proceeds go immediately back into the park. Bring your family, pets, and friends - tents and RVs welcome! Please Note: Quiet Hours are 10pm - 8am Please keep fires within designated fire rings Keep pets on leash - Clean up any pet waste Do not walk through other people’s campsites. Respect the boundaries and their privacy. Dispose of garbage in designated trash receptacles Guests are responsible for the behavior of their children and pets Guests are responsible for all damage or destruction of property and any injury to persons caused by the guest, or by their family, visitor(s), or pets. The best camping near Stephen F. Austin State Park guide

Overview

About

Named after the “Father of Texas,” this well-maintained park is set near the birthplace of the Anglo American settlement in Texas (learn about them at the San Felipe Historic Site next door). Several overnight facilities at Stephen F. Austin offer more than 100 campsites, including RV sites, tent sites, group sites, and lodging options. The park also features five miles of hiking and biking trails, playgrounds, ball courts, an 18-hole golf course, and an interpretive nature center. Visitors can fish from the banks of the Brazos River or try to spot the plentiful wildlife, including white-tailed deer and more than 100 species of birds.

Tips for snagging a campsite

  1. Plan to make a reservation as soon as you know your dates. Campsites and cabins can be reserved up to five months in advance, while the group hall and group camp can be reserved 12 months in advance.
  2. If your plans are flexible and you want to avoid the crowds, try to visit during the week or during non-holiday periods.
  3. If you don’t have a reservation, arrive at the park first thing in the morning to grab any unreserved sites that might be available for walk-ups.

When to go

The park is popular from spring to fall. Visit in spring for wildflowers—especially bluebonnets. You can also see fireflies light up the evening sky in May or June. Hiking and birdwatching are best in spring and fall, when the weather is the most pleasant.

Know before you go

  • Swimming in the Brazos River is not recommended due to swift currents and changing water levels. Trails may close due to weather or when muddy.
  • Bring bug repellent, as mosquitos can be an issue here.
  • Gathering of firewood is prohibited in the park. Firewood and ice are available for purchase.
  • Generators cannot be used inside the park.
  • Pets are not allowed inside buildings, and must be kept on a leash and attended at all times.
