Stonesthrow is a rural property in the Illinbah valley, nestled between Beechmont and Canungra, with council approval for limited camping (4WD only - leave no trace). So if you want to escape the crowds at public campgrounds, your privacy and enjoyment are assured!
We are NOT a 4WD park so vehicles must be parked up at your site on arrival and left there unless leaving the property to go to town/tourist activities. Any exploration of the property or travel to toilets is strictly on foot only- NO 4WD'ing. Anyone driving around the property will be asked to leave.
There is 500 m of (shallow) creek frontage, kms of walking/riding trails and grassy creek flats for recreational activities. Over the decades, the property has been used to farm goats, train racing camels and spell racehorses. There is also a variety of fruit trees and plantation timber.
Caravans are restricted on where they can access- with no guarantee of sufficient sunlight for solar. Elevated/remote sites cannot be reached with a caravan- please bear this in mind if booking with a caravan. Elevated/remote sites require capable 4WD's with off-road/AT/mud tyres only and campers need to be fully self-sufficient including having their own chemical camping toilets. If you don't have your own commercial chemical camping toilet then you will be given a choice of sites with access to facilities. We reserve the right to view/verify your toilet before allowing you access to the elevated/remote sites.
Well behaved dogs welcome as long as they are on a lead when moving about the property. The common area (old shearing shed) has composting toilets, communal fridge, microwave, jug, drinking water, sink for washing up and table/chairs.

Andrew Drynan Park

Andrew Drynan Park is situated on Running Creek, 47 km south of Beaudesert and 19 km from Rathdowney on the Lions Road. The drive from Brisbane will take a couple of hours. It has an impressive backdrop formed by Mt Chinghee.
Running Creek is a lovely flowing creek which is very inviting in summer and the park offers a great bush camp.
Toilets, BBQs, picnic tables and swimming. BYO drinking water. Pets to be restrained. No showers—a dip in the creek will keep you clean but please don’t use soap or detergent.
Directions: At Rathdowney, turn left into Running Creek Rd and travel approximately 17km south east.
Campers & Day Trippers Rules:
The Park is for everyone to enjoy, so please adhere to a few simple
guidelines while enjoying this beautiful park.
By using this park you agree to the following rules.
All vehicles entering the park must observe 10 Km per hour speed
limit.
Fires must be extinguished prior to departure.
Park users must clean up their area when leaving, by taking all
rubbish, including food scraps and disposable nappies with them, so
the next users can enjoy the Park as well. Do not burn your rubbish.
It must be taken with you!
The disposal of nappies in the grass around the waterline, and in
fire pits, is a serious risk to human health, the health of the
creek, surrounding stock and the ecosystem!
Please be respectful of other camper’s space & privacy! Do not set
up on top of other campers.
Generator use is restricted to 4 hours per day between the hours of
2pm to 6pm.
Dogs must be on short leads and confined to your campsite at all
times.
No music or noise after 10pm, noise level must at all times be at an acceptable level so as not to disturb other users.
No antisocial behavior.
No camping on creek banks.
No playing around toilet block area.
No livestock to be kept on the park.
No cutting down trees.
No person to travel in the load area of vehicles.
No motorcycles other than on the formed roads or when moving between
your campsite and the road.
No stock whips, firearms or weapons of any sort, chainsaws, drones
or fireworks allowed in the park.
No use of detergents, soaps or shampoos in creek.
No washing dishes or clothing in creek.
No hitting of Golf balls.
No cricket with cricket ball (tennis ball ok).
No swings to be tied to trees.
Anyone who is non-compliant may be directed by park management to leave the park and if so must leave without delay. Non-compliance
will be referred to local Police and you may face legal action for
trespassing.
Park management reserves the right to refuse anyone entry to and use
of the park.

Sarabah Camping

Sarabah is a 300 acre working cattle property located along the upper reaches of the pristine Canungra Creek and in the foothills of the Lamington National Park. Access is possible in 2WD in fine weather but 4WD will be needed in wet weather.
Guests must be fully self-contained including toilet and drinking water - no facilities provided. We ask for minimal impact - removal of all waste and rubbish is the guest's responsibility.
Dogs are permitted but must be under control at all times. Open fires permitted only in fire pits provided - subject to local restrictions when applicable.
Firewood is available and delivered to your campsite. Please message Steve 48 hours prior to arrival if you would like firewood.
We currently have 8 campsites that can be booked: The Campground (site 1), The Secret Spot (site 2), The Picnic Ground (site 3), The Overflow (site 4), The Rock Shelf (site 5), The Nook (site 6), The Paddock (site 7) and The Cranny (site 8).
All sites have creek frontage and are private and a reasonable distance away from other sites. Note: vehicles, camper trailers, caravans and toilets are not to be set up within 10m of the creek as per local government by-laws.
When booking, select one of these 8 sites and you will have exclusive use of that site for your stay. Please note that the price is per person and all guests must be included when booking. Bookings can be altered (guests added and deleted) by the person making the booking and it is their responsibility to collect payment from others for whom they have booked and paid.

Welcome to my beautiful 100 acres that backs on to Springbrook National Park. There are crystal clear freshwater creeks. Most campsites next to the creek. The property is mostly natural bush with some cleared patches for camping and horse grazing. The road entering the property is damaged due to the resent rain and you will need to drive through water. Most cars are safe but if you have a low set car or if you are delicate with your car I would not recommend.
Only 30 mins from natural arch and 20 mins to great fishing and crabbing in the tweed river.
Dog friendly (must be well controlled no aggressive dogs).
Drop toilets and hot showers.
There are 2 cabins available each with private portable toilet and hot outdoor showers.
Campfires permitted ( when fire bans not in place) and wood can be purchased in advance during booking process. No fire wood to be collected off property BYO or purchase in advance.
Not a place for loud music and parties, happy for everyone to have fun but noise is restricted. If you are a disturbance to other campers you will be asked to leave without a refund.

There are also many bike and walking tracks literally on your doorstep as well as the Murwillumbah Rail Trail less than 25 mins away. The other HUGE attraction to recently open is the world class UKI MOUNTAIN BIKE PARK (about a 4 min drive).

The Bush Clinic, Hinterland Retreat

Our sites are completely isolated from town, with views and not visible from the road. Sites are set among nearly 100 acres of a mix of open land and rainforest. Multiple natural springs exist on the property and a few small spring-fed waterholes are scattered down the cascading hills. Friendly ducks, geese, fish, horses and an abundance of native wildlife live here. This location is home to several endangered species due to being one of the last isolated pockets of rainforest in the area.
Sites are part of The Bush Clinic where we specialise in designing and making natural creams, soaps, teas, dodorants and other products as well as running regular Meditation courses and topics such as Energy, Frequency, Grounding and Advanced Organic Growth techniques for those wanting to join in are formally available during your stay.
We are new to HipCamp so have limited facilities at present, but they are in progress and we have loads of space per site, comfortable, and lots to offer for those wanting to reconnect with Nature. If you know what ley-lines are - this is the right place to visit ;-)
PS if you are towing a van or camper pls remember to engage 4wd at the front gravel gate (low range 2nd is best). This helps avoid chewing the road up...

About
As one of the last few extensive areas of subtropical rainforest in the world, Lamington National Park is a biodiversity hot spot and a jewel in the crown of Queensland’s rainforest bushwalking destinations. The Gondwana-era rainforest straddles the New South Wales and Queensland border and is a two-hour drive from Brisbane. With 150 kilometres of well-maintained walking trails and more than 460 species of mammals and subtropical birds, this is a fantastic place to enjoy fresh mountain air. Camping opportunities are a mix of tent campsites, campervan sites, and glamping tents, with remote walk-in bush camping available for the adventurous.

Tips for snagging a campsite
- Bush camping group sizes are limited between 4 and 8 campers per night per site.
- All remote bush camping sites are closed from 1 December to 31 January.
- Camping permits must be booked online and in advance for all weekends, public holidays, and school holidays. A tag with your booking number must be displayed at your campsite.
When to go
This temperate region maintains a low chance of rainfall year-round. Due to its mountainous topography, average temperatures vary, with the warmest weather in December, January, and February. The best times to visit are April through June and August to November, when temperatures are nice and crowds are manageable. The Easter and Christmas school holidays are especially popular.
Know before you go
- Camping permits and fees are required in Lamington National Park. Permits for remote, walk-in bush campsites must be booked online and in advance for all weekends, public, and school holidays.
- The park has two sections: Green Mountains (O’Reilly’s) on the western side of the Lamington Plateau and Binna Burra to the east. Each is reached using different highway exits. The 36-kilometre road to O’Reilly’s is primarily single-lane with many hairpin turns, making it unsuitable for caravans longer than four metres.
- Look out in freshwater pools for the Lamington crayfish and its distinctive bright blue bodies. This protected species can be quite feisty, so do not pick them up if you find one.
