Stone Mountain State Park
Stone Mountain was designated as a National Natural Landmark in 1975.
A magnificent 600-foot granite dome stands guard over this outdoor recreation hot spot. Rock climbers scaling the towering landmark mountain look down on Hutchinson Homestead. This restored mid-19th-century mountain farm hosts fascinating ranger-led tours.
How best to experience the 13,747 acres of mountain beauty? Hiking 16 miles of trails winding through quiet forests abundant with wildlife. Or perhaps fly-fishing in more than 17 miles of designated trout waters. Cascading waterfalls and brisk mountain streams are cooling in the steamy Southern summers.
A year-round family campground offers 90 sites for tents and RVs. Drinking water and two washhouses with hot showers are nearby. Groups find four private sites that can hold up to 25.

Six (by permit) backpack camping sites are found along Widow's Creek. Pick up the trailhead leading to the sites from the backpack parking lot. Be prepared to hike 1.5-3 miles to your site, packing in all your supplies.
