Catskill State Park
If tree-covered mountains are your thing, the Catskills are your ideal vacation.
The Catskill region of central New York harbors 98 peaks higher than 3,000 feet. Good luck trying to summit them all. You may need a few weeks for that.
Instead, why not focus on the most beautiful places to see? Kaaterskill Falls tumble 260 feet. This spot has been revered by nature lovers for centuries. Famous writers have found inspiration from these falls.
Slide Mountain is the highest peak in the park at 4,200 feet. A 4.1mile loop trail brings you the top and back. At that distance, you should spend an afternoon just for this trail. The views are absolutely worth it. Autumn is the best time for this hike.
At the top, expect to see a canvas of yellow, red, and orange in early October. For wintertime fun, there's Belleayre Mountain Ski Center. Strap on some skis for downhill or cross country adventures.
