Experience the vast wildness of the California High Desert by embarking on a camping trip to Joshua Tree. Here you’ll encounter a landscape that evokes the feeling of another planet—vast expanses dotted with fantastically shaped rock formations, exotic Joshua Trees, and a whole lot of dust. The park offers a number of campgrounds, but keep in mind that some close during the summer months when the desert temperatures climb. A few options include Jumbo Rocks, White Tank, Hidden Valley, and Indian Cove, but you really can’t go wrong with any of the campgrounds here. If you find the park’s campgrounds full and need somewhere else to stay, nearby you will find plenty of Hipcamping options, Twentynine Palms RV Resort and Joshua Tree Lake RV and Campground. If you’re down for primitive, no frills camping, try one of the Bureau of Land Management campsites that can be found just outside the park south of Cottonwood Spring and north of Highway 62.
