The Landing

The Landing in Index, WA was incredible! Driving up Highway 2 in Washington is one of the nation's best, but being able to stop on the Skykomish River in the heart of the Cascades and camp on 16 acres of private, riverfront, beach access land is a dream come true. In August the river was low and we were able to swim in the warm waters and practically anywhere along the Landing we wanted to. David the land owner was there doing some bush trimming and showed us all around the 16 acres. There are multiple spots you could pitch a tent, from the wooded sites to on large river banks. David was great and plans to expand the camping sites and locations people can pitch their tents. The outhouse was very clean and nice as well! It really was an amazing break from the city and we will be back as soon as possible!

We absolutely loved our time at The Landing! The site was very secluded and overlooked the Skykomish River. It's a very short easy path down to the water. We brought our dogs and they loved it too. The site included a fire pit, charcoal grill, and huge picnic table. There was even a cable hung above the picnic table from tree to tree to hang a tarp in case of rain. And the outhouse was nice but don't forget a flashlight!

A couple things to note:
1. No potable water. Be sure to plan ahead.
2. The driveway from Highway 2 down to the campsite was very rough. Luckily our vehicles included a jeep and a full-size pickup truck.

The host was very communicative and laid-back. We definitely want to make another trip back soon!

The Landing was a spectacular spot for a quick camping trip. The campsite was secluded and quaint, with a gorgeous view of Mt. Index and the surrounding scenery. Alongside the Skykomish river, there were fish and wildlife in abundance.
Amenities include a picnic table, grill, fire pit, and outhouse. There was even a tarp set up in case of rain fall, which I found to be most hospitable. We met our camp host on Saturday and he was an extremely nice fellow.
I would definitely recommend camping here if you get the chance! The Landing is an unbeatable place to spend your vacation.

The Landing was fantastic! We stayed for one night in June. Had an easy time finding the place, it's just between the bridge and coffee spot. The road down is best handled by a vehicle with some clearance but was not difficult to navigate. The property is large enough for a big group but cozy enough that we were comfortable enough as two humans and a pup. The waterfront access and views of the mountain are breathtaking. You can see a few houses but we had no interactions with people and really felt like we had the place to ourselves. The water is a short step downhill from where the owner set up a stone campfire and some seating, as well as a tarp-covered picnic bench and grill. While we worked on the fire I could easily keep an eye on my pup running back and forth from us and the rocky banks. The water was too chilly and quick to swim but I could imagine getting some use out of it later in the summer like other reviews have shown in photos. We car camped close to the water but there was also a decent sized clearing where we could have set up shop. The owner also has a (very clean!) out house set up and stocked with supplies a short distance from camp. Although we didn't meet in person, the owner checked in with us before, upon arrival, and after departure so we felt very taken care of. Best of all the camp site is very close to some prime hiking including beautiful Lake Serene and Bridal Veil Falls. Would definitely stay again and recommend to friends, particularly anyone looking to get some privacy with a big group!

We spent one night here, and it was awesome. It was rainy and cool, and our host, Dave, set up a huge tarp over the equally huge picnic table in preparation for our arrival. He also helped us drag over some brush for a fire while giving us a tour of the place, which has some pretty sweet views along the river. Though it was rainy, our tent area was nice and clear and close to the neatly maintained outhouse, and we even managed to keep a fire going in the drizzle thanks to Dave's assistance and advice.

We'd advise caution to those traveling without 4wheel drive, our car had some difficulty going down the path to the site, and definitely going back up! Dave even put down fresh gravel, and we still got stuck, but being the awesome dude that he is, he drove all the way from Seattle with a friend's Jeep to help us, AND brought us lunch to boot!

All in all, the Landing was great, but Dave was even greater. Cannot recommend highly enough!

The Landing site 4 has an awesome view of Mt Index from the campfire area. Multiple places to pitch tents, a super clean and convenient outhouse, thoughtful drying lines, an area to chop your own wood, huge picnic table, 3 plastic Adirondack camp chairs, and 2 trails to the beach/Skykomish river. Our kids ages 4, 6, 8 loved climbing on the rocks and floating in the swimming hole to the right of our site. There is a beach trail for any hip campers, the sign is visible as you come into the landing area. We missed it the first time we drove past. From site 4 you can see glimpses of site 3 and almost none of site 2. Index was a really fun town to explore with wild blackberries to pick in August and a rock climbing scene that is fun to watch even. We are ready to book our next trip.... such a great camp spot!

This place is awesome. It's pretty quiet and secluded, but it's also relatively close to smaller towns and cities. The site itself is gorgeous; the mountain and the river are in view, and the host provides a few very convenient amenities for use: a tarp already suspended, an outdoor grill area, a fire pit, and an outhouse. Not to mention a fancy sign for the site.

The host himself is very amiable. I emailed him quite a bit, mainly because I had to switch my reservations. He was quick to respond, friendly, and answered all of my questions and concerns.

In the future, I will be booking this site again. I would recommend that if you're thinking about it, just do it. It's pretty great.

We adored camping at the Landing! A private site with gorgeous forests on one side, and views of the river and Mount Index on the other. There was a path from our site down to a sandy beach where we could swim in a calm, clear part of the river. The amenities were clean and immaculately maintained. We hated to leave, but will definitely be back as soon as we can!
