Waterfall Camp

This was my first time using HipCamp. Waterfall Campground is excellent. Peaceful, well cared for, and so conveniently located. My son and I had an excellent adventure in no small part due to our Pygmy Campsite. Well done to the owners of this great property.

Had a great 2 night stay at site #4, the most private site! Having a sink and counter made cooking and prepping and washing hands so easy. There is a short walk to the communal area for the flush toilets, wifi and trash, it’s really just a short walk away. I would definitely bring people here!

Camping and hiking with our Frenchy

I'm a very experienced camper and do dispersed/primitive camping most of the time. I chose to stay here because it was my pup's birthday and i wanted our family who only camp once a year to feel comfortable. So this was a perfect medium ground for us. With that being said this was probably one of the best campgrounds I've ever stayed at! Would i stay again? Yes! Absolutely. Hot showers, and clean comfortable bathrooms on site. Each site had a working sink, picnic table, fire pit and chairs. Also flat parking for anyone with rooftop tents and flat tent pads. Fire bundle was stored next to the bathroom and are $15 a bundle. We were too tired to play but the communal area had badminton, horseshoes and cornhole games! The trail to the waterfall was really beautiful and the waterfall was just the icing on the cake! Was the hike worth it? An astounding yes! Location was also amazing. We cooked dinner over the fire one night, went out to fort bragg for dinner the second night then made a campfire dessert to finish off the night. And probably the last amenity that made the stay such an amazing experience is that the check out time and was so nice and relaxed. Noon check out is the best! Sleeping in is the best feeling when camping! Thank you Shay for the waterfall directions! And thank you both for the amazing experience.

An amazing location - so close to so many sights and hikes. It has amenities galore - we have an airstream but used the showers as they were so nice and clean with nice hot water. The owners are also lovely and friendly and very accommodating.

My husband and I celebrated our anniversary tent camping at Waterfall Camp and we loved it! We stayed in Huckleberry Heaven. We enjoyed the outdoor kitchen, the provided campfire and the gorgeous premises. Russian Gulch State Park is their backyard and we literally just walked from the campsite to the waterfall at the state park. We met Liz and she was welcoming and provided information about the area. You are only a few minutes away from Mendocino town where they have lots of camping stuff should you go forget something. We will be back since there’s so much to explore in the area. Thank you Liz and Shay for sharing the beauty of your land with us! P.S — the wild huckleberries are delicious!

Magical 2-nights at Waterfall Camp!

We had a magical 2-nights camping at Shay & Liz's Hipcamp! Seriously one of the best camping experiences we've had! Each camp site was extremely comfy, private, and well-maintainted, you can really tell the attention to detail to make these sites really cozy. We got lucky with clear skies and the star gazing was incredible, we even saw the milky way and lots of shooting stars. We will definitely be back!

Simply the BEST!

Absolutely hands down the nicest campsite I’ve ever been to! So many thoughtful details were enjoyed by us! From the fire ring surrounded by comfy Adirondack chairs with cute blankets on each one, to a pretty table with umbrella, to our own private kitchen area to cook and clean from! The bathrooms were kept very clean as were the heated showers! The group area had fun games such as corn-hole, and Badminton! It was a true treat staying at Waterfall Camp! And oh by the way, the hike to the waterfall is breathtaking! Don’t miss it!

Stayed at site 1, all I can say is WOW! Great site! The site was level, and tent space was big enough for a 4 person tent! The afternoon sun warmed up the tent on cooler evenings. The chairs, hammock, blankets, bug coils, picnic table and umbrella provided at each site were helpful and thoughtful. I loved the lights over the kitchen/deck. They were extremely helpful to see when cooking. And the running water sink and hose made it super easy for clean up. And the trash area was a quick 2 min walk from our spot. The communal showers and bathrooms were VERY well maintained and well lit, thank you for having some toiletries there for campers, I’m sure they will come in handy for anyone that needs them!! You will not be disappointed if you book! This spot was perfectly located to be a short distance from the beach, a few coastal towns , lots of things to do in the area! I wish we could have stayed longer.

Waterfall Camp~Large Group booking

We had a great time camping here and hope to return another time! It was so nice to be able to go on hikes straight from camp. We loved all the amenities like the propane fire pit, stove, sink, and picnic table with umbrella at our campsite, and the bathrooms and showers were really nice. Great proximity to Mendocino, as well. And our dog loved it, too.

Third year in a row we’ve camped at Shay and Liz’s and another awesome weekend of memories to keep forever. The facilities are second to none - best camp showers and restrooms ever. The site is beautifully and Shay and Liz make you feel so welcome. Being so close to the waterfall trail is invaluable - makes it so accessible. You will not regret booking here! Highly, highly recommend :)

Beautiful Home Away From Home

Shay & Liz are fantastic hosts and the space they’ve created is beautiful. We felt so welcome from the moment we drove in. We loved the amenities of the site itself—fire pit; Adirondack chairs with blankets; picnic table with an umbrella; the raised deck with a sink, dish rack and counter space; a hammock; and wood chip padding (which made it so much easier to keep our tent clean). The communal bathroom is also very nicely built, with two toilets, two showers, and an outdoor sink. Oh my gosh the shower water pressure is great and the water got hot super fast. We really enjoyed the trail that’s connected to the campground, perfect morning hike. We can’t wait to return!

Huckleberry Heaven Delivered

Huckleberry Heaven lived up to its name in every way: the huckleberries were prolific (and delicious), and the sight itself was heavenly. We appreciated the site's privacy while enjoying the common-area perks: cornhole, flush toilets, hot showers, and Wi-Fi. The propane fire ring was convenient and warm on the cool nights. The deck with a sturdy stove and sink was wonderful for cooking and cleanup. The tent pad area easily accommodated three large tents, and we had room to park our camper van. We were visited by a friendly gray fox. Shay also came by for a visit and couldn't have been nicer. You could tell that hosting campers was a truly life-giving experience for our hosts. Highly recommended.

Our group loved camping here. Both the tent platform and ground pad were flat and comfortable. The campfire ring was spacious enough for everyone to sit around. Very easy to find the trail to the waterfall. A few of us hiked all the way to the beach! Shay is a friendly host and we enjoyed chatting with him. Overall, a great experience!

Looking Forward to Next Time

Delighted to have landed on this sweet spot adjacent to Russian Gulch State Park. Our campsite offered the "luxury" of a kitchen prep area with sink, a smokeless fire pit, and convenient and clean toilets and showers shared with only three other campsites. The thoughtful addition of corn hole, badminton & horseshoe set up created a welcome escape from electronic addictions. Best of all, direct access from the campsites to Russian Gulch SP trails made our stay a perfect getaway. We look forward to returning when the namesake waterfall and creeks are free flowing. Liz and Shay, we wish you well as you continue on your journey building a sweet family legacy!

This one’s a gem!

This site was perfect for our Super Pacific wedge camper. It felt so fancy to have hot showers, flush toilets, and our own little kitchen set-up with a sink and faucet! This place is super cute and with great proximity to Mendocino. It was our first visit to the area and we wish we had had more time to explore the cute town. Thank you, Shay and Liz, for providing a gem of a campsite! We would love to come back!

A dream camping trip!

Our stay at Waterfall Camp was truly nothing short of amazing. My husband and I stayed 2 nights at Site #2 with our dog, and it was wonderful. It was easy to set up our tent and we had plenty of space to hang out. The amenities were so well thought out, from the hot showers and flush toilets, to the outdoor sink and hammock. It gives you a “glamping” feel while allowing you to still tent camp. We enjoyed playing badminton, corn hole, and especially loved the proximity to the waterfall trail. It was an amazing hike and so convenient. We want to make this a recurring visit for us.

Waterfall is an awesome place to camp for those who like to be out of the crowd. It is close to both Fort Bragg and Mendocino so exploring the towns. It's in the woods so there is lots to explore. The campsites are roomy with sinks and lights. We had a 21 ft. Trailer with plenty of room to park it. There are toilets and showers available. Shay is friendly and fun to to talk with. I highly recommend Waterfall camp!

We stayed four nights and loved camping here. Shay & Liz were very thoughtful in how the sites were set up and how people would use them. The kitchen deck was spacious, had everything you needed, and was overall very nice to have. The fire pit, chairs, and blankets were such a nice touch that we used every day. Flushing toilets and hot showers were a luxury! The campsite is right on the edge of Russian Gulch and was very easy to access. Shay encouraged us to go there our last day and we are so glad we did! We were at site #4 which was a little further away from the other three sites (which we liked). It was not a far walk to the bathroom/shower however there was also a porta potty at the site if needed. The tent pad spot looked to be the largest of all the sites if needed. If you plan on camping in the Mendocino area, we highly recommend staying here!

We loved staying at Waterfall Camp! The Huckleberry camp site (site #4) was quiet and private. The camp is also the ideal location with beautiful trails within walking distance as well as a short drive to beaches and downtown Mendocino. We plan to come stay again!

Fourth time I’ve stayed with Liz and Shay. Wonderful place, hiking and biking trails access from the camp. Russian Gulch waterfall hike is short but sweet. Single mountain bike trails galore! A total blast!

We had an amazing stay at Waterfall Camp! Shay & Liz were so kind and helpful. The campsite is absolutely beautiful and very spacious, with a lovely table, outdoor kitchen, and cozy fire pit with chairs and blankets. We even got to pick delicious blackberries right at our campsite! The location is perfect, right next to Russian Gulch State Park and close to Mendocino. We would definitely recommend staying here!

Waterfall Camp is the best Hipcamp we’ve been to! The spots are private, with a lovely fire pit and warm blankets. Each site has a sink and cooking counter, and a nice table. The bathrooms are spotless and the shower is hot! We enjoyed the trails right behind the campground and the waterfall hike is gorgeous! This is our second trip to Waterfall camp and we hope to make it an annual adventure! Shay is so kind and they are great hosts.

Awesome stay at Waterfall Camp! We had a fantastic time at Waterfall Camp! The host stopped by personally to welcome us, chat, and make sure we had everything we needed to feel right at home. The campsite facilities were top-notch—having clean, nice bathrooms and hot showers made the stay super comfortable. Our boys had an absolute blast with the lawn games provided on-site, and the location couldn't be better. It’s right near incredible hiking trails in the nearby state park, making it super easy to head out for a day trip and explore. We would definitely recommend Waterfall Camp to any family looking for a great outdoor getaway and hope to be back again maybe for a fishing trip!

Lovely setting in the rare Pygmy forest unique to this region. Very friendly and responsive host. Tidy camp with nice amenities— propane fire ring with comfy chairs makes for easy warmth, great kitchen sink/stove/counter setup beneath solar string lights at forest edge is convenient and great ambiance, and flush toilet, showers and WiFi just up the drive. Also, ideal proximity to Russian Gulch State Park trails.
