This 3 acres of paradise is nestled near the Puna Forest Reserve. We are blessed to have  beautiful red Ohia trees all over our property.  Wao Kele O Puna is the name the reserve and it covers 25,856 acres making it the largest native lowland rainforest remaining in Hawai‘i. It is home to more than 200 native plant and animal species, many of which are threatened or endangered. Wao Kele O Puna stretches over 20% of the Pähoa Aquifer, which is the largest source of drinking water on the island (MacKenzie et. al, 2007).  Learn more about this land: *Come stay in a slice of paradise out in the country side of Big Island. You are surrounded by endemic beautiful Ohia and permaculture food forest in the making! The location makes it ideal for viewing the stars at night. Very quiet, peaceful, rustic and PRIVATE! Currently there is no power or running water. There is non potable water on site for showers & such.  **LEAVE NO TRACE! Pack in what you need and pack out. Please malama (take care) of our sacred space & earth. ~2 miles off the paved road so *low vehicles not recommended* - I drive a kia soul and I can make it by driving slow and smart. ~We are currently working on building a big bathroom and kitchen. This means right now the shower and we have a *COMPOSTING TOILET* (very basic bucket system). We will typically not be on site, however, we do tend to swing by on weekends and do some work. We will ALWAYS contact you ahead of time if that is the case. Let us know if you are skilled and interested in a work trade~ *Centrally located on the East side of Big Island! Approximately 15 minutes to the closest shopping center for all your needs. About 20 minutes to the infamous Maku'u market where you can find all the local tropical fruits your heart desires along with other unique island creations. Hilo town and beaches are about 30-45 minutes away. So close to Volcano National Parks where you can see the lava and have access to tons of hiking. Topless / clothing optional black sand beach aka Kahena a little over 30 minutes away. Great people, community and 'āina (earth) surround you!
