Rent a four-wheel-drive to get there, and we recommend a 4WD to get to our place, since a recent storm washed our road out. Waiting on FEMA. Go slow, the road is rough and bumpy in places.. Off the grid. Rustic, but fun. If you are a Eco tourist or seeking adventure, you will love our spot! The silence is golden and the stars are amazing. Don't expect a hotel...this is upcountry glamorous camping. It's one-of-a-kind! Most of the parcels are 20 acre parcels around… But a few smaller parcels across the road. We have nice neighbors who keep an eye on things. The nearest grocery store is about 3 miles away. The Hele-On Bus is just 1.2 miles up the road. If you want to drive to the green sand beach at the end of our road, rent a 4 wheel drive. If you are athletic, you can walk, but it is 4 miles down and 4 miles back. I recommend going early in the morning and take water. Hot water shower is propane. Bring ice for your ice chest. Bring drinking water. There is a gas grill and propane single burner. Bathroom has manual flush toilet. This is off the grid solar and there can be days without sun, or other glitches. You can charge your phone and have a lamp in your cabin. WE HAVE WIFI. Good cell coverage. The panoramic ocean view is spectacular! Very peaceful and relaxing! Our glamping cabins are in the front 2 acres. The back 17 acres is an old Ohia forest with 500 year old trees and lots of birds. You might even see a wild goat or a wild pig or the mouflon sheep. Our property backs up to the Manuka Forest Reserve.

Kitchenette options include Propane camp stovetop on the lanai, microwave, electric skillet, french press for coffee, ice maker, and an outdoor bar area with picnic table. Glamping at its finest! This is a cabin in Hawaii, When visiting Hawaii, you may see and experience things like geckos and ants. We actually enjoy our friendly geckos at Sailors Rest so please don't offended when you see one trying to hang out with you. Super cute, cozy, and comfortable. Communication with host was great. Secluded and beautiful flora. We arrived during Nolo and spent our time in the Bee Bungalow, sitting on the covered porch, sipping coffee, listening to the rain and nature sounds as most everything was closed due to the storm. It was a great place to hibernate waiting for the storm to pass. I little slice of heaven.

It was great to stay at Christopher and Esther’s. The cabin is very nice and clean. They were very welcoming. It’s very close to the volcano national park. And the kids loved feeding the ducks!

The campsite towards the back of the property is tranquil solitude! Amazing bird watching. Loved the dogs and they seemed to love us too. Had everything we needed. Would absolutely stay here again. Oh and all you can eat macadamia nuts.

3 nights at 🌈 Rainbow’s End Farm & Homestead!

We had a great stay! After a warm welcome from Wendy and her cats, we were given a tour of the property which included multiple fruit trees (ripe and ready to pick for our breakfast)! The treehouse is a little further back on the property than the main house, which felt private but not isolated from where Wendy lives, should any problems had come up. We only experienced one night of rain and stayed dry the whole time. That being said, this is a true treehouse, so expect to encounter nature in all forms (temperature, weather, insects, etc). Wendy was a very gracious host and was more than happy to help with anything we needed.

Esther and Christopher were great hosts, we were warmly welcomed and got a tour of the cabin. Very responsive, communication was great. The cabin was great. Close to the national park, we got to see the eruption and a sky full of stars, it’s so dark there! The cabin was well equipped with everything we needed and more. The ducks are awesome! Thank you Esther and Christopher for making our first trip to Hawaii unforgettable!

Weekend Trip to Hawaii Island's Best Campsites

Tent camping here was fantastic! Having the side access road made it super easy to drive right up to the campsite to unload. The hot outdoor shower was amazing, and relaxing by the saltwater pool was the perfect way to unwind. On top of that, our host was awesome—they gave us a great tour of the property and were extremely friendly and helpful throughout our stay.

Weekend Trip to Yip Camp and Eco-Retreat Center

Thomas is such an amazing host! He has the coolest jungle property in Fern Forest. Only 15-20minutes from Volcano NP. The cottage is quaint and very comfortable, and the glamping tent sites are an awesome option too! At night, you're treated to a symphony of Coqui tree frog chirps to fall asleep to. Yip is the sweetest dog who loves to greet people with several ''Yips" but then just wants to sit in your lap and get head scratches. I can't say enough about my stay. Thanks Tom! Looking forward to next time brother!

Our time at Yip camp was nothing short of magical and mystical experience with a touch of home and hospitality that kept us warm and safe in the August rains. Great amenities such as a working kitchen and an outdoor bathroom facility, kept us in touch with the land but comfortably charmed with the village vibe provided. Thomas was beyond excellent hosting us: providing gorgeous lights, great conversations, and his menagerie of pets. We're definitely gonna book him for our next adventure in the region 😊

We didn’t get an opportunity to stay bc of the hurricane. The owner was very prompt in communicating with us and concerned about our safety even while she was in the middle of the storm herself. Wish we could have stayed. Still praying for Vicki and her family.
