Yip Camp provides a setting that promotes immersion in nature. The property is located on the Kilauea Volcano at about 2700 feet in elevation and in sight of the majestic Mauna Loa volcano rising at the peak at 13,680 feet. Both volcanos have been active recently. There are several trails at the National Park nearby; trails and several species of birds live on the property including Japanese Pheasants. On clear nights the skies provide excellent ambient viewing of the moon, planets and constellations. The campsites and cottage are located in the woods near a shower and flushing toilet and the property is off grid with the goal to establish an example of sustainable lifestyles and ecosystems. Camping equipment is available upon request and the cottage is furnished with a basic kitchen. The grounds also include a screen room with a grill, tables, chairs and a fire pit. Local fruits and vegetables are grown on the property and the greenhouse provides food. Solitude is available for those who seek silence and immersion in nature and a number of state and county beaches are within a forty minute drive. The focus is providing a quiet environment and an opportunity for solitude away from the distractions of urban lifestyles.

Yip Camp Cottage
Tom’s place was amazing! Beautiful location and exactly as advertised! Tom went above and beyond as a host, the place was very clean, and we had a wonderful stay! Would recommend to anyone travelling through the area and we’ll definitely stay again if we’re in the area again! Highly recommend!

Yip Camp Cottage
What a wonderful host. Thomas made my two night cottage stay most enjoyable. Located in a Fern Tree and 'O'hia forest, there are many opportunities to spot birds, quietly meditate and slow down. Also, Thomas's rooster must be the quietest in the neighborhood. I highly recommend Yip Camp!

Yip Camp Cottage
Thomas home was one of the most amazing experiences of my life. We chose it, being close to the volcano but ended up hanging out there just for fun. We came as strangers and left as family. Thomas and Yip are both characters I needed in my life. The shed(?) Mini-house(?) Was so incredible and comfortable. We were provided with things we could/would/did need and there were many things that were provided 'just in case' - happy finds. His neighborhood, roads and the weather were all amazing in the rain forest. The bugs were minimal and the animals he keeps were cute and not bothersome. I LOVE all the self sufficient amenities he has. From the greenhouse to the bathrooms to the solar power. I would love to not only come see Thomas again, but I would pay him to let me live there. Hipcamp should be loud and proud of this microdestination.

Yip Camp Cottage
Very flexible check-in! The Volcano started erupting the day before we arrived and we changed our plans last second to go see it at night. Thomas was actually the first to tell us it had started erupting again. (So worth going at night if you have the opportunity.) Thomas we very kind and flexible, allowing us to check in later than initially planned. The short drive from the park was easy with his instructions. Everything we needed from Clean bedding, lanterns, cooking supplies, and more were included. Once we were able to appreciate the landscaping in the morning it was beautiful. You can tell he put a lot of thought and work into the place. We have already recommended his place to anyone traveling to Hawaii and would definitely stay there again ourselves.

Beautiful!
Tom is a very friendly and welcoming host, full of good stories and helpful tips. (And his dog Yep is super cute). The place is fantastic! Surrounded by lush forest, peaceful, relaxing vibes. The hot shower is always a welcoming plus. Thank you Tom for your hospitality. Definitely recommended!
