Romantic
Recent Hipcampers say this Hipcamp is romantic.
Yip Camp provides a setting that promotes immersion in nature. The property is located on the Kilauea Volcano at about 2700 feet in elevation and in sight of the majestic Mauna Loa volcano rising at the peak at 13,680 feet. Both volcanos have been active recently. There are several trails at the National Park nearby; trails and several species of birds live on the property including Japanese Pheasants. On clear nights the skies provide excellent ambient viewing of the moon, planets and constellations. The campsites and cottage are located in the woods near a shower and flushing toilet and the property is off grid with the goal to establish an example of sustainable lifestyles and ecosystems. Camping equipment is available upon request and the cottage is furnished with a basic kitchen. The grounds also include a screen room with a grill, tables, chairs and a fire pit. Local fruits and vegetables are grown on the property and the greenhouse provides food. Solitude is available for those who seek silence and immersion in nature and a number of state and county beaches are within a forty minute drive. The focus is providing a quiet environment and an opportunity for solitude away from the distractions of urban lifestyles.

Yip Camp Cottage
Worst experience yet
- WORST part: the one toilet used by all Hipcamp guests is located behind a thin wall right behind the bed on the outside of the cabin. You can HEAR EVERYTHING someone did, piss poo you name it! Plus the cranking of the toilet, all at the lovely time of 6AM!! - over 2 miles driving on bumpy unpaved roads to get to the property. We worried about damaging our rental car. - No key, box he said it would be in was empty & there were other guests who would have had access to our stuff. - linens were stained & didn't look/feel the cleanest - The rude owner never showed up to help us with the key situation since he left to go to the Volcano park before we got there. We had no idea why people were going to the park, it was because of the eruption, he didn't even bother to tell us it was special & that we should go too, he just thought selfishly about himself& how he should go there & leave us to fend for ourselves. Then told us to "grow a pair" when told about our discomfort hearing sounds from the washroom that he built purposely behind the cabin - Large holes/gaps in the cabin, allows mosquitoes/other bugs to get in. Would have rather stayed in a tent. - booked 3 nights, stayed 1 night then left the next morning because it was THAT awful. Requested a refund & got 1 night back which I appreciate, but it still wasn't enough to make up for how awful the whole experience was. Makes me NEVER want to go back to Hilo/East side of Big Island, I didn't think people could be so uncouth!

Yip Camp Cottage
We got the cottage and really liked it. Bed was comfy, big and warm and we had a warm shower. Know that it is very off grid. We got some mosquitos too. Tom was great and had grwat afvice on what to do. He also seemed to really care about our experience. All in all we'd recommend :)

We enjoyed staying at Yip camp! Thomas is very friendly and is eager to give tips and advices on things to do and places to go. The place is full of charm and very quiet. The hot water was also enjoyable. Thank you!

Yip Camp Cottage
Safe space and good potential but the loft was not as clean as we wished so all 3 of us slept on the full bed instead. Bigger windows and clearing vegetation around the shed might help with airflow and prevent the mildew smell. Rustic environment -- Outdoor kitchen, solar lights Concept is good and this can be a good backpacker's option with some TLC,
