This is a breathtaking space that our family has poured many decades and multiple generations into. If you’re especially sensitive to mosquitos, bugs, geckos, free roaming chickens or other elements to be expected in nature, this might not be the place for you.
Waimanalo is a small agricultural town filled with nurseries, horse stables, and a high concentration of Hawaiian homes. It remains mostly undeveloped and authentic, and we aim to keep it that way. Outsiders do not often get the opportunity to stay back here, but we welcome respectful travelers looking for an authentic experience who can appreciate this privilege.
While nestled against the mountains, we're just a five minute drive from the beach. We are fifteen minutes from Kailua town, where you'll find several grocery stores, shops, and restaurants.
This is a working farm. While we are very hospitable, we are not in the business of hospitality. I am happy to accommodate travelers, but I am not here at your beck and call. If that is the experience you are seeking, I think you would be happier elsewhere. We appreciate all of your bookings, and profits go directly back into farm infrastructure and new fruit trees. The property is located on Maui island in the Kula district on the drier side of Haleakala. In days before western contact the area was heavily forested with native plants and trees and rainfall was abundant. The native Hawaiian grew bananas, taro and sweet potato. After Western contact businessmen mostly from the United States developed huge tracts of land for ranching and farming which cleared the native forests and destroyed the eco system from the mountain to the sea. Many of the Hawaiian people moved away nearer to the towns and immigrant Chinese laborers from the ranches and plantations moved in. The Chinese brought in the Wattle tree to plant for firewood as these trees grew very fast. These are the majority of the trees that you see today. As part of the Chinese immigration, the founder of modern China, Sun Yat Sen lived here for a time and planned his revolution to overthrow the last Chinese Dynasty. There is a park dedicated to him nearby.We have picnic tables a propane grill, a fire pit and a covered gazebo that is shared with 3 cabins This site is located at the 2800 ft altitude and the temperature at night can range from mid 50 to mid 60 degrees F. If you are planning to go to Haleakala, we are about 45 -60 minutes to the summit. We are also on the south side approach to Hana. There is a great restaurant for breakfast and lunch about 10 minutes away in Keokea town called Grandma's Coffee house.

We are at the top of a hill in a secluded and secure Homestead farm overlooking Kane`ohe Bay and Mokapu (and the Marine Corps Base) as well as the Pali (cliffs). We are nestled, in a jungle, in the Ko`olau mountain range. We have ocean access from the property (by crossing the road). Nearly are places to get in the water (such as Ka`a`awa and Ku`aloa Beach Park). We are also close to civilization and Kualoa Ranch.
We generally see the stars and the sun and moon rise. We also see the colors of the Bay change with the tides, clouds, wind, light.
We are focused on education about Hawai`i, being kind to animals (and all life, including humans), and we are privileged to be able to share our aloha as well as farm bounty. We grow chili peppers, ulu (breadfruit), kalo (taro), noni, vegetables, bananas, olena (turmeric), ginger, etc.
Not pictured is the common kitchen area.
We have access to Reiki, massage, and other types of services. We have kayaks, surfboards, general snorkel and beach gear, SUPs, and connections to local businesses for other opportunities (e.g., horseback riding, sailing, rowing, etc.).
There are surfing, kayaking, swimming, snorkeling, scuba, horseback riding, and hiking options nearby. We are also conveniently near a mall and many great places to eat. It is also lovely to hang out here at the farm and enjoy the peace, away from concrete and traffic congestion. There are places to explore and a steep climb one can hike to get to the edge of the property where there are many and even more spectacular views.
We are a real homestead and aspiring organic farm focused on Hawaiian Heritage plants and a Sanctuary for animals. We have many Native Hawaiian plants, superfoods, and culturally important plants. We also have Bucket and Scream (our goats), Venus, Zenith, and Sweetie (farm cats), Ipo (Australian Shepard farm dog), turkeys (Royal Palms), and a bunch of chickens.
It is possible to get around in the near area, and on and off the property, on The Bus. The Bus stop is down a hill about 5 minutes away.
We are always involved in community and local food, so let us know your interests. & let us know if you want to plant plants, weed bad grass, attend a cacao ceremony, or donate to a good cause.

The lounge and bathing area are surrounded by picturesque large screen windows that look out on a back lanai (porch) tucked away in our organic coffee orchard. The lounge room has a queen size pūneʻe (day bed) and a magical hanging bamboo chair.
This peaceful restorative space lends itself well to contemplative practices, and yoga mats and ample open floor space are provided. The quiet neighborhood of small farms also lends itself to hill walking and exploring. While not "off grid," the space is intentionally peaceful and screen free. Wifi is not available in the space itself, but can be accessed nearby in our main parking area. Cell service is excellent for most providers, allowing for guests to use their own "hotspot" as needed for staying connected.
Nearby beaches offer stunning views and spectacular snorkeling. The home is well stocked for beach visits-- towels and snorkel gear are available for your use.
Your hosts produce vibrant organic vegetables and fruit for top island restaurants and local grocery stores. This home is nestled among our organic coffee and citrus orchards.

We had such a wonderful stay in the Big Island yurt at Sun Farm Hawaii! The yurt was cozy and the bed was comfortable, making it the perfect place to relax and enjoy nature. Waking up to peaceful farm and ocean views and the sounds of the animals was really nice.
The hosts were welcoming, friendly, and made us feel right at home.
If you're looking for a unique getaway to unwind, reconnect with nature, and enjoy a memorable farm stay, I highly recommend getting a yurt at Sun Farm Hawaii. We'd happily come back again!

3 nights at Green Hills Organic Farm
We had an absolutely beautiful stay at Cloud Haven! We didn’t want to leave. The cabin had the most amazing cross breeze for sleeping, and we woke up to gorgeous sunrises each day. You have a view of the ocean from the balcony while also having complete privacy and incredible 360 views. The kitchen and bathroom set ups were easy to use and perfect for what we needed. Amy was incredibly responsive and super quick when we had a question. Cloud Haven was a much needed break from the craziness we flew into in Waikiki. Would go back in a heartbeat and will definitely be back.

5 nights at Totonami Farm
Tent camping at Totonami Farm was incredible! We loved the location near Waialua and Hale'iwa, the north shore is so relaxing! The toilet, shower, and kitchen being available on site was very helpful. We love the cats and would come back just for them! Paul, the on-site host, was attentive and very kind, he always helped us out when needed! If you're looking to get away from the busy tourist areas like Waikiki in an elevated camping style, this place is for you. Let it be known, there will be lots of insects, lizards, and frogs, so plan accordingly! Would highly recommend to anyone, especially a traveling couple or family looking for a unique, romantic, gateway in paradise.

What a beautiful property! We had such a nice stay.
The cabin tent was so comfy and cozy. I loved showering outside in the jungle. We picked a papaya for a snack. How fun is that?
Jenny is a sweetheart.
Keep in mind that chickens are early risers and geckos are everywhere.
Would totally recommend this place.

Weekend Trip to Living Circle Farms Hawaii
Everything was clean and so comfortable. We loved the yurt! The hosts are super friendly, and we felt right at home. The location is perfectly perched above the quaint town of Wailua. We enjoyed the stores and restaurants, and the beach across from Dillingham air field was perfect for a dip after we hiked the Kealia Trail.

Amazing location, you feel remote but in a short distance you have food, groceries, and Hawaii’s north shore. A wonderful experience and hosts, can’t wait to come back again. A++ J & G from Vermont

Management was warm and hospitable the option of adding a fresh coconut and fruit made my day! The tent was waterproof and it endured a minor rain storm just fine. The restroom is clean and functional. TY!

Weekend Trip to Sun Farm Hawaii @ Koko Head
Cool place with lots of native plants to explore and two funny goats. There were a couple issues with my yurt when I first got there, which Peter responded to quickly, then gave me a fresh coconut! Very easy to find, clean, quiet, off the beaten path, but not far from Honolulu, beaches, hikes, all the things. I felt I and my belongings were safe there. I appreciated the kitchen and full fridges, especially great if you're staying a while. Picnic tables encourage mingling. The Lanai yurt was pretty warm in the afternoon, but opening a couple of the lower vents gave a cross-breeze that cooled it down immediately. Next time I would do the farm tour.

Even better than expected. The Cedar Cabin is beautiful, and to me quite luxurious. There’s a tiny fridge where you could store a few small things, maybe 3 soda cans. The outdoor shower is refreshing, and nice at night with the string lights. Everything is clean, cute, intentional. What the pictures can’t capture is how peaceful the place is. Everyone is so nice and welcoming. Chat with other campers around the fire pit, pick a fresh papaya, commune with a gecko, enjoy watching the clouds roll over. The dogs are friendly and the chickens are curious. Jenny gave me suggestions for making herbal tea from plants on the grounds (Macrut lime, lavender, etc), her partner explained their impressive composting projects. Everyone seems to truly love being there and making it a beautiful place for rejuvenation and learning. I wish I’d spent my entire time in Oahu here!

3 nights at Green Hills Organic Farm
This stay was spacious, peaceful, and one of my favorite places to write. Keeping the windows open allowed a constant ocean breeze to flow through the space, making it incredibly comfortable. The ocean views are spectacular, and you can enjoy both the sunrise and sunset from the property.
The amenities were clean and comfortable, including a flush toilet and hot shower. My Wi-Fi worked without any issues, and I was able to generate plenty of power with my solar panel each day thanks to the excellent sun exposure. The only thing to keep in mind is that the windows need to be closed during rain because of the building’s design, but otherwise they’re perfect for letting in the fresh air.
I was able to purchase fresh curly kale and a few limes directly from the property. Just ask Amy about what’s available and the harvest prices.

Tent and amenities were clean and well maintained. I spent several days exploring Kaʻena Point and the North Shore.
Paul, the caretaker, was informative, friendly, and helpful throughout my visit. The property keeps bees, and the hives are located near the bathroom area. The amenities include a flush toilet, warm shower, and running water for washing dishes. There is no electrical service, only solar power, so don’t expect to plug in appliances. I brought my own solar panel to charge my battery stations. I was also able to get internet access using my Wi-Fi hotspot.
There are a few stray cats that Paul cares for, and you’ll likely see them during your stay. One memorable surprise occurred while I was cooking outside when a large, friendly potbelly pig wandered out of the brush, strolled past the bee boxes, and disappeared back into the vegetation. Paul believes it may have been displaced by the recent flooding. I also spotted a few mongoose during my visit.
One of the highlights of this property was the sunsets. From the tent, I witnessed breathtaking evening skies filled with incredible shades of orange and gold. Watching the colors change over the course of several hours was one of the most memorable parts of my stay.
If you bring a dog, make sure it is well trained and under control. There is wildlife in the area, and you don’t want your pet bothering or chasing mongoose, cats, or, in my unusual case, a wandering potbelly pig.

Our second time staying at the farm. A year ago we got engaged on the island, this time we had our Bach trip, next time we will be officially married!
