The property is located on Maui island in the Kula district on the drier side of Haleakala. In days before western contact the area was heavily forested with native plants and trees and rainfall was abundant. The native Hawaiian grew bananas, taro and sweet potato.
After Western contact businessmen mostly from the United States developed huge tracts of land for ranching and farming which cleared the native forests and destroyed the eco system from the mountain to the sea. Many of the Hawaiian people moved away nearer to the towns and immigrant Chinese laborers from the ranches and plantations moved in. The Chinese brought in the Wattle tree to plant for firewood as these trees grew very fast. These are the majority of the trees that you see today. As part of the Chinese immigration, the founder of modern China, Sun Yat Sen lived here for a time and planned his revolution to overthrow the last Chinese Dynasty. There is a park dedicated to him nearby.
We have picnic tables a propane grill, a fire pit and a covered gazebo that is shared with 3 cabins This site is located at the 2800 ft altitude and the temperature at night can range from mid 50 to mid 60 degrees F. If you are planning to go to Haleakala, we are about 45 -60 minutes to the summit. We are also on the south side approach to Hana. There is a great restaurant for breakfast and lunch about 10 minutes away in Keokea town called Grandma's Coffee house.

Camper Van #4 Parking in the forest
Our host was very easy to work with when our plans had to change and we had to increase our length of stay. The property was well appointed and my wife especially liked the propane heated shower.

Best dang campsite on Maui
Second time staying here. Won't be the last. Beautiful property, hot showers, propane grill provided with lots of extra left from previous campers. Property is extremely well lit with motion lights. Cleanest toilets on the island. The owner doesn't come and lecture you about rules. This place has the best sunset in the United States. My jaw drops every time.
DON'T come if:
1. You need the owner to hold your hand. They stay hands off and it's nice that way. There are plenty of signs that tell you what to do.
2. You suck at parking. The parking area is tight.
3. You're sensitive to noise. There are farms adjacent. Dogs will bark, chickens will bawk, children will play nearby, and there will be other campers.
4. The only reason you're here is sticker shock from the resorts. This is not and will never be a resort.

Beautiful campsite in the mountains
We loved the atmosphere at Alika‘s camp. All sites were very nice, the bathrooms really luxury for a camp and lots of light to move around at night. The sunset view is stunning. Thanks for having us!

Beautiful and Quiet Camping
We had this beautiful site to ourselves for a night. The views are amazing both sunrise and sunset as well as the night sky full of stars. Facilities were readily available and there was plenty of space for our roof nest camper.
