Waipi'o Lodge and Campsite is located in Kukuihaele less than a mile from majestic Waipiʻo Valley. In a place where horses and wild turkeys often wander by, this is the old Hawaiʻi. When surf and ocean conditions allow, you may enjoy kayaking, swimming, diving, fishing, surfing and seasonal bird, whale, and dolphin watching.
As camp hosts we will provide the best guidance during your stay and are available for more intimate one on one assistance with your choice of activities should you need. Please specify what your intentions for this camp experience are during our meeting at the valley lookout. Come with humility and a sense of respect for all who have journeyed before our generation of Hawaiian Kanaka Maoli and hawaiian immigrants.
As active farmer/arborist/gardeners, we are seeking many hands in work-play projects and welcome long stay extensions involving a hana (workplay) trade agreement. Be sure to let us know if you are interested in this option to extend your stay.

You will be camping on soft grass amongst giant Ironwood and eucalyptus trees while listening to the soft sounds of the creek below. Take a swim in the spring-fed waterfall swimming hole and relax by the fire pit at night.
We also offer our beautiful 2 room tent fully furnished with a queen-sized air mattress, cozy bedding, lantern, and camping lounge chairs. Cooler upon request, you provide the ice.
We’re blessed to be located on the rainy side of the island because of all the abundance and greenery the rain brings. That being said, please be prepared for the weather. It can rain hard at times so having a good rain jacket is a great idea. On the other hand, people say that a sunny day on the east side of the big island is the best place to be in all of Hawaii.

Beach gear such as surf boards, boogie boards and snorkel gear is also available. There is a detailed welcome packet with a variety of mostly free but some paid must see/do activities on the island!
There are a total of 4 cabins on the one acre lot. The owners are on property, other guests may or may not be here as well. There is a dog Valentine, two outdoor cats named Ghost and Tomi, and chickens/ducks.
Each cabin has a queen mattress. We rent both cabins out for larger groups.
Jungle massages are available on site starting at $100 for the hour.

Volcano Island Farm is located on the Hamakua Coast of the Big Island of Hawaiʻi. We are 10 minutes from Honokaʻa Town and 20 minutes from Waipiʻo Valley Lookout.
We are a small agricultural farm with gardens, hydroponic greenhouses (coming soon), chickens for eggs, and acres of macadamia nut orchards. Most of the property is open green space with plenty of shade from trees—as long as you don’t mind the occasional falling nut.
We offer two types of camping. Traditional camping is available for guests with their own tent, which can be set up anywhere near the bathhouse in the grass or under a tree.
We also have tents and camping equipment available for use as needed. In addition, we offer the opportunity to stay in our restored Volkswagen van.
The van sleeps a couple very comfortably with a full- to queen-size bed, a swivel chair, and interior lighting. It is cozy and comfortable and includes a picnic table and outdoor lighting in the surrounding area.
The bathhouse is shared among all campers. We typically have no more than four campers at a time, so it is generally easy to share the space. The bathhouse includes a hot shower, sink with mirror, private toilet room, off-grid hot tub (heats in about 20 minutes), and an outdoor deck area for eating or relaxing.
Volcano Island Farm is a calm and quiet retreat from everyday life. We look forward to hosting you and hope you enjoy your relaxing stay. We have a hidden exotic fruit orchard tucked away through rolling green hills, perched over the Hamakua cliffs, overlooking the pacific.
We sell our fruits ripe and cut ready to eat at our roadside fruit stand, open 11-6 daily including holidays! We serve local fresh juices and machete open coconuts to drink ice cold.
We grow mango, durian, lilikoi, star fruit, chocolate sapote, buddhas hand citrus, finger limes, tangerines and tangelos, jackfruit, tree grapes, mangosteen, white pineapples, mountain apples, berries, spices and much more. We are home to dozens of rescue animals, many who came from Puna during the 2018 lava flow. We have peaceful sheep, lambs, chickens, ducks, turkeys, geese and a lovable pet pig. Not to mention our friendly farm cats.
Our current camp sites are not in the fruit orchard, but in a rolling hills open pasture land near the fruit stand. It is rustic and pastoral.
We are a community of a few passionate farmers and fruit lovers. There’s a family- myself Rose, my partner Matthew and our daughter Mela, plus several awesome guys and girls who help out in different areas to grow our lives together!

Mahalo, for your interest in visiting Big Island Farms located half way between the Historic Town of Honoka'a and the beautiful Waipi'o Valley. We are a permaculture based farm that hosts students from all over the world interested in learning more about sustainability, permaculture farming, Hawaiian culture and much more. During our off season, we open up the farm for you to visit and enjoy the beautiful Aina (land) and facilities.
Your stay with us could vary, from relaxing and reading a good book on one of our many decks or hiking through our upper orchards to find the on property waterfall that runs most of the year.
Our property is 65 acres with 50 acres of Macadamia Nut orchards and free roaming sheep and cows. The lower 15 acres consist of many different gardens, a green house (please do not enter), multiple Food Forests, 8 Cabanas, 2 classrooms 4 showers, 3 composting toilets and a kitchen with common area.
Each cabana is screened in 360º with views, two bunkbeds (sleeps 4), air mattresses, (Bring your own Sleeping Bag/Pillows) shelves, clothes lines on outside and lockable doors. There is no electricity in the cabanas but there are power strips available in the common area.
The common area consists of a large deck with picnic tables, Wifi access (pw: pickalltheweeds), power strips for charging electronics, canopies for when it rains, a 2-burner hotplate for cooking, pots, pans, plates, utensils, cups, dry food storage and a full sized fridge with freezer. Please keep the area clean.
We also offer morning Breakfast Basket options:
Small basket $ - 2 Papayas, 6 bananas, 2 cups of coffee.
Large basket $ - 4 papayas, 10 bananas, morning coffee during your stay.
Please keep in mind the fruit may vary depending on what is ripe.

In order to preserve water we utilize clean non-smelling composting toilets. We also have 4 hot water showers, 2 sinks and vanity areas. Please keep showers to 5 min or less, Mahalo.
If you come with a 4-wheel drive vehicle you are welcome to drive farther up on to the property and park closer to your cabana, just follow the Parking signs. We do not recommend you drive up with cars or low vehicles as the terrain is a bit rough, instead please park down in front in one of the parking spaces.

Weekend Trip to Ember & Fern Retreat
Super cute, cozy, and comfortable. Communication with host was great. Secluded and beautiful flora. We arrived during Nolo and spent our time in the Bee Bungalow, sitting on the covered porch, sipping coffee, listening to the rain and nature sounds as most everything was closed due to the storm. It was a great place to hibernate waiting for the storm to pass. I little slice of heaven.

There’s hipcamp sites and then there’s this place! I’d take this over a resort any day. Incredible property with clean and comfortable facilities, amazing pool and hot tub, and incredible ocean views. Felt lucky to be there. Also loved the very friendly and well behaved dogs. Thanks Shawn and fam!

Esther and Christopher were great hosts, we were warmly welcomed and got a tour of the cabin. Very responsive, communication was great. The cabin was great. Close to the national park, we got to see the eruption and a sky full of stars, it’s so dark there!
The cabin was well equipped with everything we needed and more.
The ducks are awesome!

- The camp sites were perfectly spaced with lush greenery providing good privacy.
- We brought our dog which worked out perfectly with friendly doggos nearby.
- The cliff view of the Wild Blue Water catches the morning sun perfectly and the view is to die for.
- Full sized bathroom was stocked and ready to go.
- The pool and jacuzzi were a nice touch for a quick dip.
- Super impressed with how well all of trees/plants were taken care of, pleasure to walk around and enjoy the nature.

Thomas is such an amazing host! He has the coolest jungle property in Fern Forest. Only 15-20minutes from Volcano NP. The cottage is quaint and very comfortable, and the glamping tent sites are an awesome option too! At night, you're treated to a symphony of Coqui tree frog chirps to fall asleep to.
Yip is the sweetest dog who loves to greet people with several ''Yips" but then just wants to sit in your lap and get head scratches.
I can't say enough about my stay.

Our time at Yip camp was nothing short of magical and mystical experience with a touch of home and hospitality that kept us warm and safe in the August rains. Great amenities such as a working kitchen and an outdoor bathroom facility, kept us in touch with the land but comfortably charmed with the village vibe provided. Thomas was beyond excellent hosting us: providing gorgeous lights, great conversations, and his menagerie of pets. We're definitely gonna book him for our next adventure in the region 😊

What a paradise this is! If you are used to camping this is definitely a step up! The grounds are well manicured, with 4 camping areas nicely spaced apart with fruit and flowering trees all around. There’s a pathway past the pool to an amazing lookout to the sea cliffs, which are amazing to sit, watch and listen to the waves crash. The bathroom and shower area are better than any I’ve experienced for a Hipcamp so far, definitely a step up! This is an amazing piece of paradise that these kind folks cultivated and are willing to share, so that makes it even more special. If you are journeying near Pahoa (which is funky fun town to check out), definitely make your base camp here. The pups are also adorable and very friendly, Bear and Splash hung out for a bit to run around on the grass with us and love all belly rubs! This was definitely a highlight on our trip and we will absolutely visit again! Thank you for having us!! All the best!!
