Tiny house on the Big Island
The tiny house has a cute, rustic island-style vibe and is conveniently located between Hilo and Waimea. The host was very friendly and welcoming, which we really appreciated. The covered veranda was a nice place to relax, especially surrounded by nature.
The place has the essentials you need, including a cooking area, outdoor shower, outdoor toilet, BBQ grill and a filter coffee machine with coffee provided. There is also an additional sleeping space upstairs.
We unfortunately had bad luck with the weather and experienced non-stop rain during our stay, which probably influenced our experience. The house is very rustic and open-air, with mosquito nets instead of windows. While this gives it an authentic island feeling, we got quite heavily bitten by mosquitoes. The downstairs bed was also quite small and had a thin mattress.
Another thing to note is that the Hawaii Belt Road runs fairly close to the house, so there is some road noise.
Overall, if you enjoy a simple, rustic, off-grid island experience, this could be a good fit. For us, it was a mix of charming touches and some comfort challenges.
