As all the land here is born of lava, many moons ago this land began to host plants and critters. Long after, it was sculpted and a number of families and farmers have contributed to what we have today. An abundance of fruit and vegetables within sight of the ocean. Peaceful breezes and warming sun make for unparalleled tranquility. Today the land still gives back to its visitors. Come recharge. As this is agricultural lands, there are many critters. Dogs, chickens, pheasants, peacock, mongoose, and many birds. Tge invasive coqui frog is annoying to some and calming to others. The micro climate here swings from warm and dry to wet quickly. Best to always prepare for rain. There is snorkeling, beaches, local food, Cafe, BBQ, poke, fish-n-chips, grocery, Sunday farmers market and hiking nearby. It is peaceful here, but also an active farming community. As an organic farm, we put alot of effort into soil building and as such, there are soft places that will be damaged by the weight of a vehicle. Staying on the driveway is best. We will guide you to where you need to go. Our road is paved, but bumpy. Any vehicle will make it without damage if driven slowly. 1 to 4mph tops. *Be sure to avoid the camper rental companies that restrict certain roads. Aloha and have a great day.

The Hippocampus

Legend has it, Kohala (the first of the 5 volcanos on the Big Island of Hawaii) is home to King Kamehameha I and this was the home to the Ali'i and the training grounds for their warriors. You can feel it when you walk into the forest and listen deeply and intuitively to your ancestors. It is truly an honor to be on this 'aina (land). Modern history: Up until 1984 this property was all avocado, Kukui and Ironwood land with the Kohala ditch running on the far south end. It wasn't until my current neighbor and sweet friend and her father bought the property and cleared away 160 Ironwoods to create a property that could be farmed and lived on. Then another couple bought the property in early 2000 and built it out with farm houses and gardens. Once they moved back to the mainland, this was home to the local skydive family where the pilots and instructors were housed. Finally, in 2021, Cirque-Girl Sequoia came in with a huge vision of a conscious homesteading community, learning and teaching alongside one another by way of events, projects, concerts, talks and certifications, all the while farming and creating even bigger orchards to feed not just her community, but the community of Hawi and beyond. At this time, not only is it "hip" to farm and grow your own food, but it is crucial. Learn more about this land: Everybody comes to Hawaii and thinks of beaches, surf and jungles but why not try a different side of Hawaii? The Ironwood Forests of Hawi are where you’ll find I'o (Hawaiian Hawks) and Pueo (Hawaiian owls only found on the Big Island), as the ancestor's whispers run through the massive forest of Ironwood, Kukui Nut and Avocado, in an ancient river bed of sugar plantation country. Deep in the heart of Hawaii’s only extinct volcano Kohala, this was home to the most prestigious Ali’i (Hawaiian Royalty) and the training grounds of warriors. Our farm sits on 10 acres, with over 30 varieties of fruit trees and a view of the Big Blue (the ocean). We provide 2 Hipcabins and 4 platforms, hammocks to daydream in, car camping, a center camp that has a kitchen, bathroom and shower plus a magical forest for you to meditate, do massage, practice Reiki, read or just have a beautiful discussion in. If you feel inclined to step out of the forest, you are welcome to use our communal eating area THE GROOVY GRINDS CAFE under the mango trees and we would love if you wanted to be a part of any of the events that we host here with our live-on conscious community. Things we do and can offer aerial, yoga and meditation classes, massage (ask hostess PRIOR to trip about booking sessions), drum circles, bonfire nights, fire-dancing, Thursday community potluck dinners @ 6:30pm, mini-concerts, painting, planting, building projects and whatever we get called to do. ....and what's camping without a bonfire? We have two bonfire pits lower on the property that you can join in on if our community already has one going. (NO fires in the gulch please.) One of our biggest bragging rights is that we are utilizing the vermaculture toilets which feeds our red wiggler worms, filters through 4 layers of organic matter and turns your toilet waste into nitrogen rich effluent for the plants. (NO TOILET PAPER PROVIDED SO PLEASE BRING YOUR OWN) and the gray water from the shower and kitchen sink go into a plot of banana trees. So our bathroom, shower and cooking facility is completely self-sufficient! We provide a nice two-burner stove and propane. Please shut off when not in use (remember, propane tanks are backwards for on and off!) PLEASE PACK OUT WHAT YOU PACK IN!!! Funny that I should need to say this but.... PLEASE BRING EARPLUGS and BUG SPRAY as this is the forest and forests too have critters like mosquitos and animals like roosters, dogs and pigs that make noise. PLEASE DO NOT ARRIVE AFTER DARK AND PLEASE USE DIRECTIONS AND NOT GOOGLE MAPS! It will take you down a 4x4 road. And when it’s time to step out of the forest and out of Pueo Ridge, we are a 5-minute drive directly above the main center of town and 15 minutes to the famous Pololu Valley hike that runs deep into the jagged switchbacks of the Northern coast. Holualoa is such a special place and only 15 minutes away from the ocean and Kailua town. The space Tiny house floorplan layout is 30' x 9' = 270 sq. ft. with a full size bed on the main floor plus a queen bed in the upper loft. The lanai adds another 300 sq. ft. of outdoor living to enjoy the cool, upper elevation breezes with stunning ocean and sunset views. Full kitchen provides flatware and cookware, acacia eating bar with 4 stools. Full bathroom with walk in shower, glass door, and basic bath necessities. We provide 4 sets of bath linens, 4 beach towels, 2 beach chairs, boogie board and small cooler. The entire space is tall, open beamed ceilings making it bright and breezy. The upper loft is accessed with a narrow ladder, you will need to feel comfortable and agile to climb up/down. This queen bed in loft area is intended for adult use for sleep/rest and for safety reasons is NOT suitable for children and toddlers. Guest access There is a keypad for access allowing you to come and go during your stay. The living space and outdoor lanai are private for your use only. The kitchen is well equipped, full bathroom and easy sleeping on the full bed on the main floor. The loft ladder is narrow and the climb is a little steep, it's a tight space behind the door. Keep this in mind when booking and considering your sleeping arrangements. The outdoor lanai is an amazing space and you will spend most of your time out there. There's wi-fi with a smartTV, you will need your own accounts for Netflix, Hulu, etc. The tiny house is part of our family ranch and there are other homes nearby. The common area has a shared washer, dryer and BBQ available for your use during your stay. We have worked to maintain some privacy with lots of room for parking on the side of the tiny house. There can be ranch animals in the pastures and there may be gates closed periodically, they are opened with push button. Holualoa does have roosters, mosquitoes and coqui frogs which you will hear at night, especially when it rains. Please no smoking in the house or on the lanai. No pets. We made our dream a reality by creating a compassionate place where plant-based, vegan, and vegan curious individuals can unplug, enjoy nature, and socialize. The campsite is designed to have the comforts of home but in the surroundings of lush Hawaii. The bathhouse has solar heated showers, and we provide shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. You can step right from a hot spa like shower into nature. Then, take a short walk up the log stairs through a decorative garden to the kitchen. The large communal kitchen is built out of local trees that we sawed ourselves. The kitchen has lots of counter space and an island with barstools that are perfect for a social cooking experience. It also has a double sink, a bar sink, a gas stove top, and a cooler (bring your own ice), as well as everything you need to make a meal and eat it. The newly planted vegetable garden might even have some treats for your next meal. Experience the emerging gardens as young plants and fruit trees flourish under the Hawaiian sun or pouring rain. You can break out one of the puzzles or games for some fun, borrow one off the books and blankets, and even make yourself a picnic or cozy up by the fire on a chilly night. At night, the campground is illuminated by solar powered lights, disconnect from modern distractions, and reconnect with nature under starlit skies. You can treat yourself to the fruits of the island with two nearby fruit stands and a Sunday farmers market in town, offering fresh, locally grown produce. The wild animals of Hawai'i might stop by. This includes I'o (Hawaiian Hawks), Pueo (Hawaiian owls only found on the Big Island), turkeys, pigs, and geckos. Please bring ear plugs and bug spray as this is the forest and we have critters like mosquitos and animals making noise . We are mostly off-grid but with county water supplying our buildings that is safe to drink. There is no electricity or wifi, and limited cell reception in the area, so make sure to check your phone before heading out from Honoka'a. This is a perfect opportunity to disconnect and have an offline experience. We are approximately 5 minutes from town and 7 minutes from Waipio lookout and have an easy 2WD accessible road from the highway. Please arrive before 5.30pm if your setting up your own tent as it gets really dark, and no later than 8pm for glamping. Send us a message if you have a later arrival and we can see if we can make it work. We are passionate about animals and their well-being. Out of respect for our 9 and growing rescue animals we have on the property, we ask that you eat vegan on the premises. Honua La'a "Sacred Land"

Enjoy the country life in Kau on the Big Island and the lovely red Lehua flowers blooming. We live on 20 acres on Road to the Sea, which has a remote green sand beach at the end of the road (4 miles down from us). We call our slice of paradise, Honua Laa (a sacred place). Straight down to the coast is a beautiful black and green sand beach and a huge tide pool. Rent a four-wheel-drive to get there, but you don’t need 4WD to get to our place, just go slow the road is gravel and bumpy. Off the grid. Rustic, but fun. If you are a Eco tourist or seeking adventure, you will love our spot! The silence is golden and the stars are amazing. Don't expect a hotel...this is upcountry glamorous camping. Shared bathroom (see photos). Hipcamp kitchenette includes a propane single burner, ice chest (bring ice), No fridge. No oven. Small BBQ grill. We have an outdoor fire pit, if you like campfires! It's one-of-a-kind! Most of the parcels are 20 acre parcels around… But a few smaller parcels across the road. We have nice neighbors who keep an eye on things. The nearest grocery store is about 3 miles away. The Hele-On Bus is just 1.2 miles up the road. If you want to drive to the green sand beach at the end of our road, rent a 4 wheel drive. If you are athletic, you can walk, but it is 4 miles down and 4 miles back. I recommend going early in the morning and take water. Hot water shower is propane. Bring ice for your ice chest. Bring drinking water. There is plenty of coffee and tea in the kitchenette and a gallon of water to get you started. DRIP COFFEE -Boil hot water in the kettle, put cone filter with a paper filter and ground coffee inside and on top of thermos. Drip. It's delicious! This is off the grid solar and there can be days without sun, or other glitches. You can charge your phone and have a lamp in your cabin. No wifi. I use ATandT and I understand that Verizon and T-Mobile work here also. The panoramic ocean view is spectacular! Very peaceful and relaxing! Our glamping cabins are in the front 3 acres. The back 17 acres is an old Ohia forest with 500 year old trees and lots of birds. You might even see a wild goat or a wild pig. There are small caves and gorgeous rock formations. It backs up to Manuka Forest Reserve.
