Camp Koʻolau provides bathrooms, a warm-water outdoor shower with an amazing view, and parking. Our farm is only a 5-minute drive to the beach, and 15 minutes from popular, Kailua town.
As a working farm, we do have insects and geckos hanging around. So, it's not uncommon to encounter them. Also, we often have visits from wild pigs that come down from the mountain, so you may see them as well. Although we are certain you will love this place, please keep in mind, it takes a lot of hard work to maintain it. Thus, you will probably hear farm equipment and activities buzzing about (typically on the weekends). And, we want you to respect, love, and care for this place as much as we do by leaving it better than you found it.

This is a breathtaking space that our family has poured many decades and multiple generations into. We are surrounded by jungle, with a freshwater stream running through the entire property and unobstructed mountain views. If you’re especially sensitive to mosquitos, bugs, geckos, free roaming chickens or other elements to be expected in nature, this might not be the place for you.
Waimanalo is a small agricultural town filled with nurseries, horse stables, and a high concentration of Hawaiian homes. It remains mostly undeveloped and authentic, and we aim to keep it that way. Outsiders do not often get the opportunity to stay back here, but we welcome respectful travelers looking for an authentic experience who can appreciate this privilege.
While nestled against the mountains, we're just a five minute drive from the beach. We are fifteen minutes from Kailua town, where you'll find several grocery stores, shops, and restaurants.
This is a working farm. While we are very hospitable, we are not in the business of hospitality. I am happy to accommodate travelers, but I am not here at your beck and call. If that is the experience you are seeking, I think you would be happier elsewhere. We appreciate all of your bookings, and profits go directly back into farm infrastructure and new fruit trees. We are at the top of a hill in a secluded and secure Homestead farm overlooking Kane`ohe Bay and Mokapu (and the Marine Corps Base) as well as the Pali (cliffs). We are nestled, essentially in a jungle, in the Ko`olau mountain range. We have ocean access from the property (by crossing the road) although there are better and easier places to get in the water (such as Ka`a`awa and Ku`aloa Beach Park).
We generally see the stars and the sun and moon rise. We also see the colors of the Bay change with the tides, clouds, wind, light.
We are focused on education about Hawai`i, being kind to animals (and all life, including humans), and we are privileged to be able to share our aloha as well as farm bounty. We grow chili peppers, ulu (breadfruit), kalo (taro), noni, vegetables, bananas, olena (turmeric), ginger, etc.
Not pictured is the common kitchen area.
We have access to Reiki, massage, and other types of services. We have kayaks, surfboards, general snorkel and beach gear, SUPs, and connections to local businesses for other opportunities (e.g., horseback riding, sailing, rowing, etc.).
There are surfing, kayaking, swimming, snorkeling, scuba, horseback riding, and hiking options nearby. We are also conveniently near a mall and many great places to eat. It is also lovely to hang out here at the farm and enjoy the peace, away from concrete and traffic congestion. There are places to explore and a steep climb one can hike to get to the edge of the property where there are many and even more spectacular views.
We are a real homestead and aspiring organic farm focused on Hawaiian Heritage plants and a Sanctuary for animals. We have many Native Hawaiian plants, superfoods, and culturally important plants. We also have Bucket and Scream (our goats), Venus, Zenith, and Sweetie (farm cats), Ipo (Australian Shepard farm dog), turkeys (Royal Palms), and a bunch of chickens.
It is possible to get around in the near area, and on and off the property, on The Bus. The Bus stop is down a hill about 5 minutes away.
We are always involved in community and local food, so let us know your interests. & let us know if you want to plant plants, weed bad grass, attend a cacao ceremony, or donate to a good cause.

This spot is a must-see! It truly is a private oasis nestled in an accessible residential area. The amenities that David supplies are above and beyond! The bathroom and shower were very clean and comfortable, the outdoor kitchen space and BBQ were very useful and the property itself is stunning. We genuinely wished he had booked more days at this campsite as it was the perfect way to soak up some beach time with no crowds. We highly recommend staying here!

Dave and his wife are quite lovely! Their little dog is adorable and sweet as well.
Dave's instructions for arrival worked great. We loved this little gem! There's a lot of thought & consideration for guests. The motion lights for the campsite & bath accommodations were a nice touch, too.
My only complaint is not getting to spend more time enjoying the beach. But that's not the owners fault. Next time, we'll stay more than one night!

This is beautiful setting! There was a mini fridge with a tiny freezer area and a 2-burner camp stove that worked without a lighter there were also some pots and pans and dishes to eat on. There was not a knife so make sure to bring one. We loved the private bathroom behind the tent and the covered picnic table in front of the tent. We especially ebjoyes talking with the Gardner Steve since he was out and about in the area. I recommend this for an excellent glamping experience!

This is the place to camp in your camper van or vehicle. It has great out door showers with warm water(not cold).
Flushing toilets are such an amenity while camping. Its also a farm so there's fruit trees all around. Also: there is a ferral cat colony down the rd so there are dozens of cats that come out at night. Thanks Marco for hosting such a safe and comfortable property!

My partner and I had a great time at Sun Farm. It’s a beautiful space and the yurt is very cozy.
I would recommend renting a vehicle as it’s a bit away from the towns and beaches. But with vehicle access the location is wonderfully removed yet accessible to everything.
The roosters make a lot of noise in the morning but personally we did not mind it. The connection to nature was lovely, and it helps you wake up early to make the most of your day.
The bathrooms were kept clean. I had access to another living space during my stay where I took showers, only trying the campgrounds showers once. It may have been my own user error but the water did not get hot. That would be my main warning.
Otherwise the space is beautiful, clean and overall would highly recommend it for a short term stay.

I had such a great time at Sun Farm, Hawaii, Koko head! I stayed at site three for four nights in a camper van. Now that I look back, I really appreciate the pavement because everywhere else was wet and muddy. Site three is right next to the covered picnic area, the kitchen, and basically all the amenities. I use the kitchen to heat up some water on the stove, and there also a fridge to store food if needed. The bathroom was clean and smelled great. The sinks are on the outside of the bathroom, and the showers are located off the sidewalk near a lovely garden, and I really enjoyed the shower! After hiking all day, it was nice to take a hot shower. Overall, it was super nice setting with decent amenities, a really nice garden and glamping tents for rent also. It was very enjoyable, and it also is near all the action.

Peaceful, safe location. I stayed here for 5 nights. It's up in a quiet valley on the windward side of the island. I originally was going to stay in a tent, but saw a huge storm was coming while I was there. So I rented a van instead and I'm very glad I did! It's a very wet part of the island, and the camping field was saturated. But with good shelter, I was fine and slept well. Very quiet, peaceful and safe. I was traveling as a single woman and felt totally fine. I didn't interact with anyone while there; I got in late at night, so Steve told me how to open the gate, and I let myself in and out everyday. Sometimes in the pouring rain! But it's Hawaii and so warm, it's fine. My only complaint is that there are 3 bright lights on the outside of a large workshop building near the camping area. Those affected my sleep, and was a bummer to have light pollution like that while camping in Hawaii. But, I put fabric over my eyes and slept fine.

This is a gem. I lovely little place .5 walking to the beach. Everything was so clean. Towels were provided, comfy bed. Michelle has a beautiful back yard and so many plants.

This is such a nice place to stay on the island if you like camping— and because you’re on this website you probably do! The camper had everything I needed for five days. I didn’t cook there, but I used the refrigerator. Definitely a safe location to stay which is important to me as a solo traveler. And the luxury of being able to spend time on a quiet portion of the beach was well worth it. The owner is very responsive to questions and needs. The fact that he meets you the first time and then takes you to the place is super helpful!! Hundred percent would book again when I come back. You’ll hear some regular noises from camping next to houses but it’s no big deal.

Such an amazing experience!!! I stayed in Jess’s treehouse on her property and it was fantastic! The whole property is absolutely stunning and the treehouse is such a unique place to stay! I got to meet the farmhands that also help Jess and they were all so kind and welcoming. Jess also was so kind and made me dinner for the night I was there, and breakfast the next morning. I’m not sure I’ve ever had such a welcoming and accommodating host as Jess. She truly made me feel right at home and like I was part of the farm family and I am so thankful and appreciative for her. This was one of the most incredible vacation experiences I’ve ever had. It felt like I was in a tropical jungle oasis for the days I was there and I am so excited to go back soon!

I loved staying here! It was so quiet and serene. Was very nice having a kitchen and sitting area as well. Bring earplugs, the chickens like to crow at any hour lol!
Overall a great stay, i would recommend it to anyone and come back again. My only negative was the staff didn’t see very welcoming or friendly. When i arrived they didn’t acknowledge me, i assumed they were other guests but later found out they were the staff/volunteers (not sure). I had said good morning or hi multiple times and never got an answer from anyone. Online and the welcome video mentioned a produce stand, which i saw when i arrived but no one was ever there or offered any produce up for sale. I definitely would have bought some if someone just asked. I just expected a bit more.
Overall great stay, just don’t waste your time trying to speak to staff/volunteers.
