The property is located on Maui island in the Kula district on the drier side of Haleakala. In days before western contact the area was heavily forested with native plants and trees and rainfall was abundant. The native Hawaiian grew bananas, taro and sweet potato. After Western contact businessmen mostly from the United States developed huge tracts of land for ranching and farming which cleared the native forests and destroyed the eco system from the mountain to the sea. Many of the Hawaiian people moved away nearer to the towns and immigrant Chinese laborers from the ranches and plantations moved in. The Chinese brought in the Wattle tree to plant for firewood as these trees grew very fast. These are the majority of the trees that you see today. As part of the Chinese immigration, the founder of modern China, Sun Yat Sen lived here for a time and planned his revolution to overthrow the last Chinese Dynasty. There is a park dedicated to him nearby.We have picnic tables a propane grill, a fire pit and a covered gazebo that is shared with 3 cabins This site is located at the 2800 ft altitude and the temperature at night can range from mid 50 to mid 60 degrees F. If you are planning to go to Haleakala, we are about 45 -60 minutes to the summit. We are also on the south side approach to Hana. There is a great restaurant for breakfast and lunch about 10 minutes away in Keokea town called Grandma's Coffee house.

Long after, it was sculpted and a number of families and farmers have contributed to what we have today. An abundance of fruit and vegetables within sight of the ocean. As this is agricultural lands, there are many critters. Dogs, chickens, pheasants, peacock, mongoose, and many birds. Tge invasive coqui frog is annoying to some and calming to others.
The micro climate here swings from warm and dry to wet quickly. Best to always prepare for rain.
There is snorkeling, beaches, local food, Cafe, BBQ, poke, fish-n-chips, grocery, Sunday farmers market and hiking nearby.
It is peaceful here, but also an active farming community.
As an organic farm, we put alot of effort into soil building and as such, there are soft places that will be damaged by the weight of a vehicle. Staying on the driveway is best. We will guide you to where you need to go.
Our road is paved, but bumpy. Any vehicle will make it without damage if driven slowly. 1 to 4mph tops. *Be sure to avoid the camper rental companies that restrict certain roads.

Welcome to paradise! No joke, Koke’e State Park on the island of Kauai is the textbook definition of the word. Well almost anywhere on the island may fit that description, but not everywhere can you get views of the Napali Cliffs and Kalalau Valley from 4,000-feet elevation. Now that’s a view you don’t see everyday! Hit the trails to hike through native rainforest and along the rim of Waimea Canyon to arrive at some mind blowing, high elevation views. Bring the fishing pole to score some very clean trout in the rushing creeks, pick plums in the trees above, and even hunt for wild pigs in certain areas. Pitch your tent to stay awhile, and pretend you are a primitive human living off of the land in the garden of eden. One of the most beautiful places in Hawai`i. We are at the top of a hill in a secluded and secure Homestead farm overlooking Kane`ohe Bay and Mokapu (and the Marine Corps Base) as well as the Pali (cliffs). We are nestled, in a jungle, in the Ko`olau mountain range. We have ocean access from the property (by crossing the road). Nearly are places to get in the water (such as Ka`a`awa and Ku`aloa Beach Park). We are also close to civilization and Kualoa Ranch.
We generally see the stars and the sun and moon rise. We also see the colors of the Bay change with the tides, clouds, wind, light.
We are focused on education about Hawai`i, being kind to animals (and all life, including humans), and we are privileged to be able to share our aloha as well as farm bounty. We grow chili peppers, ulu (breadfruit), kalo (taro), noni, vegetables, bananas, olena (turmeric), ginger, etc.
Not pictured is the common kitchen area.
We have access to Reiki, massage, and other types of services. We have kayaks, surfboards, general snorkel and beach gear, SUPs, and connections to local businesses for other opportunities (e.g., horseback riding, sailing, rowing, etc.).
There are surfing, kayaking, swimming, snorkeling, scuba, horseback riding, and hiking options nearby. We are also conveniently near a mall and many great places to eat. It is also lovely to hang out here at the farm and enjoy the peace, away from concrete and traffic congestion. There are places to explore and a steep climb one can hike to get to the edge of the property where there are many and even more spectacular views.
We are a real homestead and aspiring organic farm focused on Hawaiian Heritage plants and a Sanctuary for animals. We have many Native Hawaiian plants, superfoods, and culturally important plants. We also have Bucket and Scream (our goats), Venus, Zenith, and Sweetie (farm cats), Ipo (Australian Shepard farm dog), turkeys (Royal Palms), and a bunch of chickens.
It is possible to get around in the near area, and on and off the property, on The Bus. The Bus stop is down a hill about 5 minutes away.
We are always involved in community and local food, so let us know your interests. & let us know if you want to plant plants, weed bad grass, attend a cacao ceremony, or donate to a good cause.

A lava-covered coastal park, Kīholo State Park Reserve features small bays, sparsely vegetated coastline, historic lava flows, and plenty of wide open space to roam. If you’ve never visited a black sand beach, you’ll have the chance to see it here, pressed up and contrasting against lush palm trees and shoreline. It’s a pretty decent spot for snorkeling too. While the park is still undergoing conceptual planning for future public use, visitors are able to visit during the day. Overnight camping is offered in a more remote area. Your private space is a 20'x10' raised cabin that offers covered outdoor space as well as indoor accommodations. You will find the inside furnished with two full spring mattress bunk beds, a small eating bar overlooking our backyard area with two stool seats, a personal work area with an accommodating cooler for perishables (Please provide ice or we can arrange for block ice from our local general store if desired), and personal clothing storage, as well as wi-fi options. Your private cabin space does have full electricity separate from the commons, but still off grid so please refrain from using strong energy draw items like hair wands or instant heaters, such electrical items are not suited for off-grid electrical systems.
Our Common space is open from 7a.m.-10p.m. During this time, you will have full access to a shared kitchen, as well a full bathroom with both an indoor and outdoor shower. The bathroom is available around the clock but after-hours hot water is off so please be aware if you're planning on taking a midnight shower. Please let us know if you need any amenities such as hot water or wi-fi after 10p.m. or before 7a.m. Please make note of these times and being off grid means that we schedules use of high energy items with the daylight hours, and we will set a timer for your convenience of smaller items like internet with advanced notice, otherwise we are very energy efficient in the commons, this is hipcamp, so please don't mistake us for a Hilton :)
We are currently home to 4 wonderful dogs that may greet you as you drive up, 3 spectacular cats, 1 mischievous parrots, 3 goats, 12 chickens and 1 rooster. So please know there are animals present than are part of our Ohana.
We ask for you to take into consideration that we are a "Working homestead" and we are "Off Grid" so there will be projects much like any farm setting, for this reason we are not suitable for infants or young Children. There are animals that can make noises, there are mulch piles always moving around, compost piles that might not be your cup of tea because they smell, but they certainly make great compost teas to help the flowers grow that smell beautiful right outside your window! There are small projects that may look like clutter, such as seed saving, or canning, but those small clutters grow the plants that fill those jars! On occasion we have people who overlook this reality of nature and our connection to it... possibly because they've seen too many staged reality shows or maybe they have never visited a real farm in person before, but we are grateful that the overwhelming majority of people who have had this attitude have left with an appreciation for nature many expressed they never knew they had!! Those guests have filled our hearts with their kind gratitude :) This is a place full of joyful work for us, so please understand we are a destination for many who love nature, and if you're afraid of dirt or nature in general, this might be a great opportunity to connect with what has always been waiting for you to discover!!
Guest accessThe last two blocks into our homestead are rock road as we are a rural location. We will provide a map upon booking with the best access through our Ag-lots for your convenience. Please travel safe and plan for our check-in between 3p.m. and 9p.m. with early and late check-in avalible with approved notice :) Parking is available to either side at the end of the driveway.
Other things to noteAlittle about our homestead;Please understand that we are off-grid, and while we've been off grid 8 years now, we've only been hosting stays like this for 3 years, and we see that we are a destination for many visitors looking for a nature bathing kind of experience, but it's not everyone' cup of coffee... Sooo speaking of coffee, if you are looking for things like an General Electric coffee pot or any electric coffee maker (that are literally designed to wastes energy to just make money) we probably aren't the best fit for your stay ... BUT ... If you want to experience home grown Cacao added to fresh ground coffee brewed Italian style to make an amazing Mocha, FRESH, then we can easily make that while showing you some great energy saving ideas to take home :) like make coffee the way our great grandparents made coffee, it tastes better and is really easier than one may think! We share some toasted homemade sourdough bread out of fresh harvested stocks too, but it again isn't an energy guzzling shinny toaster that does the toasting, it is a cast iron skillet that we toast on, just like our great grandparents did too... Actually one of my favorite skillets belonged to my Great Grandma, so this is the real deal :) Come up and join us when we turn the commons on at 7a.m. if you're interested. We have very little light pollution which will afford beautiful star gazing on clear nights, and epic full moons!! But this means that you should use a flashlight or headlamp which we can provide at your leisure. We don't poop in a bucket in the woods, we actually have a working toilet, and Hot water for showers, a gas powered full range stove. But we also compost and make methane for 100% green energy use... There are chickens and goats, parrots, Dogs & Cats. We have been told by some that it is too cluttered, and by others you make me our home look clean our kitchen table (3'x9') always has some sort of a project on it. One guest said they were so happy to see so much going on as they sat watching us make bread, while another was upset that they didn't have a private kitchen. We feel we are very affordable for what we have to share, and if you feel this description will not fit your needs, then please don't book us because we're affordable. Trust us if we could offer a private kitchen it would only raise our price. We really hope more than anything to share and inspire what a homestead is, and that even in a suburb, or a rural apartment there are small things we can do to save energy and bring ourselves closer to nature!!

This is an absolutely beautiful property.
The tiny house is really perfect. The bed was comfy, the shower was hot, the wifi and air con worked. The beach towels came in handy. We had breakfast on the deck every morning. It was pretty special.
It’s close to Turtle Bay Resort for a nice dinner option.
I found the wind turbines fascinating. They were almost silent by the way. The cows came up to visit along with the obligatory chickens.
Google Maps sent us on the wrong road but Jaden set us right immediately.
Highly recommend this stay.

What a beautiful property! We had such a nice stay.
The cabin tent was so comfy and cozy. I loved showering outside in the jungle. We picked a papaya for a snack. How fun is that?
Jenny is a sweetheart.
Keep in mind that chickens are early risers and geckos are everywhere.
Would totally recommend this place.

Weekend Trip to The Kikala Waterfall Lodge
Wonderful cabin! WE loved hearing the river as we sat on the lanai and as we slept! The common-area building is fully stocked with cooking equipment, and there are two full bathrooms.
Swimming below the enarby waterfall on the property was a joy. But we were only there for less than 24 hours. I am sure there is much more!

Weekend Trip to Living Circle Farms Hawaii
Felt extremely safe and welcomed at this sparkling gem of a farm! We stayed in one of the safari tents and it was luxurious. I thought bugs might be a problem but they weren't at all. The shared bathroom is extremely clean and one of a kind, as is the outdoor shower. Highly encourage taking a "black light" flashlight and walking the farm in the dark. They scattered stones around the gravel that glow when you hit them with the black light! The ground of the outdoor shower also has glow in the dark paint and makes the shower surreal. Overall, this place is magical, the hosts are kind and treat you with Aloha. The entire land and structures here are built and maintained with such thoughtfulness and love.
Highlights are definitely the outdoor shower, the fresh fruit, and listening to the beautiful afternoon rain shower hitting all the banana leaves, foliage, and roof of the safari tent.
The most relaxed I've felt in awhile. Will absolutely be returning. ❤️ Mahalo nui, Kristian, Jenny, and Nathan.

We stayed in 3 places on the island and this was by far our favorite. There was plenty of space, it was clean and lovely, well stocked kitchen, and the setting was beautiful including the swimming hole with waterfall! (which sadly we didn't get to go in as we were out so much)...as others have said, I would have liked to have stayed there longer and just enjoyed the property. Everything about it was easy and convenient. They even had a TV and DVD collection- though we were mostly offline for our week in Hawaii, it was perfect to watch a silly. movie on one of the nights. Would definitely go back, thank you Hamakua Guest House (Rover View Family House)!

4 nights at Gorgeous Views-Farm-Jungle-Ocean
We had a magnificent stay at this homestead from start to finish! Jess was flexible in working with us on our arrival time and we were able to work out doing a mixture of the treehouse experience (truly unique spot with amazing views) and staying in another spot on the property which was helpful as we went to a wedding at nearby Kualoa Ranch and it was nice to have some additional amenities for (e.g., shower, mirror). If you have questions about the land or your stay, Jess is very easeful and kind to work with. For me, this is an excellent location as your ready to drive that beautiful coast to the North Shore while still close to town in windward. Highlights of the site were listening to the rain while treehouse napping, hanging with animals on the property - goats, cats, dog, chickens and turkeys, birdwatching, plant observing, and interacting with other campers. I would absolutely stay here again and hope to soon :)

This little gem was absolutely lovely. It had everything we needed for a couple nights on the big island. The fact that it had a clean, fully functional bathroom and running, hot water was a huge draw for us. Being able to fall asleep to the sound of the creek was incredibly peaceful. We were able to get the jungle camping feel, but get back on the plane clean and refreshed. Absolutely would recommend.

We had a one-night stay here and, due to our schedule, didn't spend much time on the property, but when we were there, it was nice. The showers and toilets were clean, as well as the surrounding areas to lounge or eat in. Lauren was at the front desk when we arrived and provided us with some great recommendations for lunch and visiting Mauna Kea. They have a resident cat that we saw and snuggled with. We would definitely recommend this location.

2 nights at Gingerhill Farm Retreat
I loved staying in the Jungle Canopy! It was incredible to hear the birds in the morning when making coffee, and hear the frogs sing at night. The bed was super comfy and it was awesome to have my own bathroom with the cool outdoor shower (with hot water!!). The Canopy is a short walk from the parking area so it’s easy to bring your bag up, just don’t forget to bring some bug repellent for the mosquitos, and don’t forget to go say hi to the goats and chickens down in the garden! This place is a true delight and I’m excited to come back one day.

I personally loved the hammock camping although it may not be everyone's cup of tea. The first night the rain woke me up but by the third night the sound of the rain was the perfect white noise and improved my sleep.
