As all the land here is born of lava, many moons ago this land began to host plants and critters. Long after, it was sculpted and a number of families and farmers have contributed to what we have today. An abundance of fruit and vegetables within sight of the ocean. Peaceful breezes and warming sun make for unparalleled tranquility. Today the land still gives back to its visitors. Come recharge.

Staying on Colin’s land was easy going with beautiful views! Colin and Susan were both responsive and incredibly friendly. If you’re keen for a simple grassy spot and a little bit of an adventurous drive (just take it slow and watch for chickens!) I absolutely recommend staying here.

Perfectly fine for a short stay
The hosts Colin and Susan are very receptive and great hosts. They assisted us with finding the place. The road to get there is a bumpy ten minute drive but we managed fine in a small SUV. The portapotty was clean and well maintained. This is a bare bones campsite, essentially a piece of grass and the portapotty as mentioned. True to the listing but could benefit from trash cans, picnic tables, hand sanitizer for the bathroom, and potable water. If you're in a pinch and only staying a short time, it's perfectly fine but certainly wouldn't be my first choice. The property is on a hill but there are a few spots of semi-level ground to pitch a tent. Overall, I'd give it 3 stars. Nothing fancy, but except for the availability of trash bins, pretty true to the listing and the hosts were lovely. Just needs a few upgrades.

Peaceful
We had a very comfortable camp. The host was very nice and hospitable. I would not recommend driving a sedan to this property. We had a 2 wheel drive SUV and had no problem at all.

Great place to camp with plenty of privacy. Up a long rough road full of other farms, so be prepared to take your time and enjoy the sights/smells! Host is easy to communicate with and answered all my questions. Zero complaints!

Nice views — amazing sunset. Very nice owner, Colin. Need to be a bit adventurous to drive up the narrow, bumpy road and camp there. Best for a one-night stay. We experienced a noisy, rumbling truck driving by at 6 a.m. during our stay. Port-a-potties were in pretty bad condition and dirty.

Appreciated the view from campsite. Did not appreciate that Colin didn't meet us upon entering his property (as the web site promised) but his 5 dogs did, one of which was a nippy, somewhat aggressive German Shepard. We were not bitten, thankfully, in part due to our experience with dogs. Colin did meet us several hours after our arrival and explained that he would in the future let one dog out at a time. The German Shepard he promised to keep on a leash. This meant that on our second evening, the other dogs barked and raced around the campsites sequentially. Colin does not offer any drinking water on site. Road best navigated with a high clearance vehicle.

Beautiful property! Colin was so accommodating of our late arrival time (plus flight delay), gave great instructions on how to get to the farm and where to park, and even gave us fire starting pointers. Definitely take it slow on the drive up but the views and jungle are incredible! Very peaceful night, we wish we could have spent more time there.

Super unique spot to stay on the island. Colin was super communicative before our trip. Made our first hipcamp easy. The best part was being able to chat with Colin about his story. Very passionate and wonderful person that is living his dream with his family. It is camping on a farm. So don't expect a beach side resort. You'll have likely beautiful stars and nice coqui frog to help you sleep. It was one of the quietest nights we had on our 2 week trip. We'll definitely come back. P.S. make sure you follow the written instructions. It makes getting there easy. Don't be like Jim and get lost and have to pulled out of the mud

Colin, his wife, and dogs were all amazing hosts! They recommended a great nearby coffee tour to us, which our whole group went to and enjoyed. The Hipcamp itself is on beautiful land and we got a great view of the stars at night. It has a port-a-potty and that’s pretty much it. I would definitely recommend Colin’s Hipcamp!

We stayed one night in a campervan. The farm was very nice and peaceful. Colin the host was helpful and greeted us for a late check-in. The temperature was cool at the elevation of the farm which was nice for sleeping. The location is fairly close to Kona.

Although we did not come across Jim, we did find the campsite and it was very pleasant. Road up is challenging, so ensure you don’t be like Jim and remember to go slow. The tortoise always wins the race. Colin’s dry wit was welcoming and Sally was super helpful and kind.

Colin is just just a salt of the earth kinda guy! Thanks for making us feel so welcome! We loved our stay on his lush farm - the driveway is just part of the experience. The views of the moon and stars are unreal! Follow his instructions and you’ll have a great time.

Great spot to camp! Get earplugs if you like to sleep while it is silent, because there are a lot of frogs who make noise.

Take the Farm Tour!
The property is in a rural agricultural area south of Kona town. At night the sound of the jungle is a full symphony of biodiversity floral aroma of the tropical blossoms and fruit trees. It was not hard to find, the directions were very clear. Sometimes at night, it was hard to find the road from the main highway, so be sure to signal in advance and slow down. The farm tour was a great thing to appreciate where you are, also you'll get great food recommendations nearby, I did not regret ordering based on the recommendation. Take the tour and ask where to get the best Loco Moco nearby.

Rustic campsite-Sky view amazing
The road to get there is very bumpy and a 4WD is a must. Not to drive in the darkness. No water view at all and only service is a dry toilet. It’s a rustic camp site with an amazing sky view.

We had a great time camping on the Avocado farm! Great view of the water with amazing sunset! Great location for exploring the Kona area including Captain Cook and Two Step! The Southern Point and Green sand beach was not far either! The hosts were very helpful and friendly! We had a blast and would highly recommend!

Waste of time
I wish we'd picked somewhere else to stay. The road in was very long and rough. The site itself wasn't level and was very close to a large group who partied late into the night. Despite confirming our time of arrival and type of accommodation multiple times ahead of the stay, Colon seemed annoyed and surprised by our on-time arrival.
