Simplest review? - so much fun!
Our hosts Dan and Donna, have built a hell of a little community area. Roughly 8 acres of woods to give you that away-from-it-all feeling. At the heart of the compound they've built a stage for musicians play and share. There's a full kitchen, swings, things to climb, communal fire pit, several bar areas, a pool table, giant jenga sets, hula hoops... so much to do. They're also in the process of opening up a bus house, and building some tiny homes. Lots to do. Very safe, very friendly.
All around, I'd recommend again, and look forward to coming back to visit someday!
I had never visited this part of Florida before and was eager to camp in the Ocala National Forest. Dan and Donna have truly created a community in this forest. We were lucky enough to see their community in action since we were there over the New Year holiday. New Year's Eve was filled with their friends reminiscing by the fire and sharing music on their covered, outdoor stage. The vibe was really special. The shared outdoor kitchen and fire really bring the community together, and there is a real family aspect, but the campsites are designed to be private if you want to stay in your own space. We only used the kitchen to wash dishes as we had prepared our usual camping foods to cook on the fire and our little camp stove, but we felt very welcome to use everything that was available. We stayed on one of the new platform sites and it was very nice for our free-standing tent. This is also a very dog-friendly site and our dogs were welcomed by everyone. We really enjoyed our stay.
Back to nature for peace and love
If you find your hippie soul calling you back to nature (ANYWHERE in Ocala National) THIS Hipcamp is a MUST. Dan and Donna’s warmth, acceptance, and hospitality are truly indescribable. The Grateful Hammock is full of amazing amenities and the inviting feeling of being part of a Tribe. I spent my weekend there just trying to express what it feels like to be part of something so amazing, and all I can say is “soul renewing”. We left Grateful Hammock today after only a mere weekend spent and pulled out longingly leaving this peaceful paradise like leaving a gathering of our oldest family and friends. I recommend this Hipcamp to any voyager wishing to restore their faith in humanity. And I mean that from the bottom of my hippie heart. 🌈❤️
What a great place to camp for the weekend. The hosts were very accommodating and helpful. Loved the live music as well as the onsite radio station. Felt like I was living at a music festival! Will definitely go back
We will return. If you love music and music outdoors this is a great place. Loved the good company. good music and when the lights went out the skies are so dark. We will be going back. Great folks.
Grateful Hammock is a trippy hippie wonderland of a campsite. There were so many cool things to look at around the campsite, and the kitchen really came in handy. Dan & Donna we’re so nice & my friends and I had such a great time hanging out with them and the other campers around the communal fire pit. Such good vibes there. We will definitely be back. (:
Dan and Donna (and Sunshine and Woody) are wonderful hosts. I would absolutely recommend staying here if you like campfires, great conversation, and a chill time. Music abounds! Wonderful property. There is no shortage of things to see and do here. I consider Dan and Donna to be my friends after this stay and look forward to returning to the Hammock.
