The original log cabin is still part of the farmstead that originated back in the 1880's.
The site was a family farm until around the 1940s.
Also, the land was the Eastern banks of a large logging mill lake/pond 150 yrs ago, so the shoreline slopes do not allow campers in/out of the pasture areas. A popup would be feasible with a full size 4 wheel drive utility vehicle in river bottom/shorelines. Tents /Low impact camping are best.
In 2019 a transition to Animal Therapy, Fishing Therapy, and Pastured pigs from New Zealand which originally were almost extinct because of their friendly nosey nature at times gets them into trouble.
They graze on open pasture most of the year and rest in the sun next to a trout stream.

We are a working farm with mostly rescued farm animals. Many of the animals have special needs here and live their lives as free-range animals. The river in the back is home to wonderful Brown Trout and smallmouth bass. Also at times, there will be a couple dogs being trained and worked with too. You select your location for your primitive camping experience. If any special needs for a person arise, such as cane, charcoal grill, camp lantern We keep a small shed with supplies even items like tarps, cots, sleeping bags, even fishing rods. The owner is a highly achieved angler that has been filmed for the "Discover Wisconsin" Television TV show. and is available for guided fishing adventures and education in the area for all species. Also, certain times of the year are excellent for wild plants and mushroom foraging. Note this is the Driftless area of Wisc. where no glaciers came through. We have bluffs and streams around every curve of the road. The Wisc. Rivers very close too and has great fishing as well. The neighbor of this farm also rents and performs livery service for kayaks, canoes on the Pine River. Many times of the year, fresh meats are sold right at the farm as well as homemade fishing lures ready for fishing adventures.
Note: Many times I am at the river fishing or in the pasture planting and reforesting this former GMO corn farm after years of heavy spraying. With Maples, Willows, apple, pear, plum, oak while trying to manage the evasive plants too.
Please understand rainfall, safety of small rivers/waterfront changes. If river front takes on water, camping is all moved from water edges.
We do not allow any camper over 15 feet and you must have vehicle that can get through wet mowed fields if it rains since we are along a river/wet lands, if it were to rain we move vehicles to higher dry ground if they a low to the ground . We have a gentle sloped hillside here so always dry areas to park.
Other vehicles park at the top of the pasture, in farm front yard and we transport all gear to the river front.
Small low to the ground cars are not wise here as there are 4 rain water trenches in the bottom 10 acres the keep rain water draining to ward the river.
Gary's campsite offers a tranquil escape along the Pine River, surrounded by friendly farm animals and the soothing sounds of nature. Guests rave about Gary's hospitality, often mentioning his thoughtful gestures like providing coffee and sharing local stories. The location is ideal for fishing enthusiasts and those seeking a peaceful retreat, with many visitors expressing their intention to return. While the campsite is described as off the grid, campers appreciate the genuine connection with nature and the warm, welcoming atmosphere.
This is the second time I’ve camped here and both times were wonderful! Being able to interact with Gary’s animals while camping next to the river was wonderful, and his land is incredibly scenic. He’s more than accommodating and has loads of helpful information to share. Both groups I camped with loved their stay!
Beautiful land and host. Lovely animals wander about while the sounds of wildlife-calls and flowing of a pristine river lull you to sleep. Gary provides a relaxing, wholesome and heartfelt experience that we plan on returning to time and time again. Thanks Gary!
My stay was great! Gary was an excellent host and had some great stories about the land and the area. He brought coffee in the morning and was all around very hospitable. Would highly recommended staying here if you want a quiet and relaxing time by the river.
Lovely time on Gary’s. The animals love to loved on! It was fun to wake up and be greeted by friendly pigs and sheep wanting pets. Gary surprised us with coffee and watermelon our first morning. It was fun to feed the rind to the pigs. Description and pics are accurate.
I love it to camp on the banks of the Pine river. My firepitt was literally on the edge of the river.
This is a beatifull peaceful area with lovely surroundings. You can choose where to pitch your tent. The sounds of coyotes at night also gives one that feeling that you are in the wilderness.
Gary knows the area and he is more than happy to share his knowledge.
Thanks for a nice relaxing weekend.
Nice place! Quiet, peaceful farmland and we camped right off the river. The animals were great and the area in general is beautiful. Gary was a great host, and very accommodating.
I enjoyed camping at Gary’s place. It was great being right next to the river. I really liked how he cares for the animals and his property. I was happy to hear the snorting of the pigs as they stopped by for a visit. Will likely visit again.
Much needed time out connecting with nature. This spot is good medecine.
It’s apparent Gary cares much about the land and the animals he watches over. Even brought some hot coffee by in the morning and sent me out with a monster pheasant tail mushroom.
Would definitely go again and bring a friend.
Gary was a super host with great knowledge about the land and the animals that inhabit it. The property and animals are well cared for and we cannot wait to come back!
We booked last minute as my significant other and I were looking to get away for the weekend to fish. We read the reviews and seen the reviews about the farm animals so brought some healthy snacks for them. We caught fish, pet animals, got to see a guardian dog in action, foraged, and had an overall great time. Keep in mind this is off the grid camping in a rescued farm animal pasture. It’s on the pine river and had plenty of action and so many foragabkes. Gary was a great host and was there to help if needed. He recommended an ice cream place down the street called dairy O. It was great. He said come back with a heads up and he would love to show us some spot for fishing. We will definitely be back and put this in our must go back for camping spots. Some people said bugs but we honestly did not see many. Wear your bug spray!
Gary’s a wonderful host— friendly and very accommodating. The land is beautiful, exactly as pictured. The sheep, pigs, and goats all greeted me at various points during my stay. I fell asleep to the gentle hooting of an owl and woke up to a host of morning songbirds. I booked last minute, hoping to catch a glimpse of the northern lights, and was not disappointed!
Gary is the man! Super knowledgeable of the area and if you are into fishing he is your man! Definitely will be back for more thanks for the love gary!
Gary was a great host. Very available in advance for questions. Also, it had rained the night before we arrived and he had a bucket of dry kindling and fire starter to help with our fire. He walked us through the property to pick a good spot to camp. We had the property to ourselves and it was very peaceful. Many birds and sunset over the creek was beautiful. My nine year old daughter loved the pigs and cows. We woke in the middle of the night to a cow looking in our tent and licking our vestibule! Do make sure you put your food in the car at night. They were great. You should know there are a lot of cow patties around as would be expected but they are easy to avoid and there was no smell. We are very happy we stayed at Gary’s property.
We absolutely loved our time here! Campsite was perfect, right next to the river, with morning sun and plenty of afternoon shade. Gary was not only a wonderful host, but an amazing human who so graciously spent time guiding my son and I down the river in kayaks, sharing so much knowledge of his land, animals and fishing. We enjoyed the bonus of visits from his friendly cows, pig and sweet dogs. We are already looking forward to our next trip out!
Grateful to Gary at Pastures on the Pine River, who was not only a wonderful host to my son & I on his beautiful property, but also an amazing human, who took time to guide us down the river and share so much knowledge about the land, animals & fishing. Our spot was right next to the river, with morning sun and plenty of late afternoon shade. We were visited by friendly & curious cows, a pig as we launched our kayaks, and his sweet rescue dogs even stopped by with him on a morning walk. Already looking forward to planning another trip out!
We had a great time tent camping on Gary’s land. Gary was accommodating when we arrived later in the evening and made sure we found a good spot to set up. In the morning, we got to interact with the animals.
We loved the location. The river is down a bit, so had a few nibbles, but didn't catch any big ones. Nice and quiet! The host was very nice and even had a privacy cover we borrowed for the privy. Very nice area and wonderful wildlife to see. Even had a bald eagle perch in the tree less than 100 feet from our campsite several times. Will definitely go back!
It was awesome camping here! The cows were really friendly and stopped by the camp once. One of them came back a few extra times and liked to get chased after like a giant puppy. Super unique experience.
Gary was very nice and welcoming and had extra supplies on hand in case we forgot anything
Had an amazing time camping next to the beautiful creek on the property! Great fishing in the area, and would definitely recommend, and will be back soon! Gary was a great host and very helpful!
Gary's land is beautiful. If you are fishing in the area, this is a great base camp because you can fish a fun trout stream on the 35 acre property. It may be one of the better fishing spots that you will find. Bring a vehicle with some clearance, it will be worth it.
