Come and get cozy by the fire pit with your friends and family in this slice of Appalachian heaven.

About the Property

Just off the Appalachian tail, five minutes from Dragon's Tooth trailhead and 10 minutes from McAfee's Knob, you'll be able to find plenty of hiking and nature to take in. This is a remote valley with limited cell service but access to myriad outdoor recreation opportunities. TONS of killer single-track mountain biking around the area, including some nice trails on our property. We are very close to the North Mountain trail system, not far from Carvins Cove. These areas also offer amazing swimming and tubing.

This area is paradise for road cyclists as well. Our country road is long, scenic, very little traffic, and the grade is almost imperceptible. Lots of similarly scenic back roads in the vicinity, easy to map out a loop according to your preferences.

We are located ~35 minutes from Roanoke and ~45 minutes from Blacksburg. While I provide some bottled water for campers, bringing in your own is always a good idea as I do not offer a way to refill water containers.

About the listing

In an open meadow surrounded by woods and the creek, you'll find a secluded camping along Craig's Creek. Private (no houses or roads in view during summer) drive-in campsite at the edge of a large meadow, with sweeping views of the valley and our babbling creek just steps from the site (fall asleep to the sound of running water). Includes access to our gorgeous cliffside swimmin' hole and some basic amenities (fire pit, picnic table).

Well-behaved dogs and other pets are always welcome, but please keep them under close supervision.

We happened to be staying at Ned’s amazing site out of season so we were lucky enough to have this amazing site all to ourselves, but that being said it could very easily accommodated a far larger group (or groups) and still offer a private camping experience.

The site itself is impressive! Large easily accessible fields rimmed by hills and cliff for parking, a beautiful stream that surrounds the camping areas, great facilities (the cleanest porta potty I’ve ever seen), and super location to serve as a base for all your outdoor adventures.

Ned is a fantastic host, super accommodating, and was there to answer questions we had about getting around the area. We will definitely be staying again!

Fantastic location close to Dragon's Tooth and McAfee's. Ned is welcoming and quick communication. His property is beautiful. You're nestled between the mountains and campsite is by a creek. You hear the sound of the running water as you sleep. We had an amazing, cozy stay.

We booked very last minute, arriving late. Ned was very accommodating and helped us out with the lights and firewood. Perfect view right in front of the mountain and sounds of the creek made it a great stay.

This site was perfect. Ned has set up a nice campsite with beautiful surroundings. It has just enough of a feeling of isolation while being just off a back country road. The site has two tables and a fire pit which was perfect for getting set up. This place is also just down the road from Dragon Tooth so it would make a perfect base camp if you are planning to do that hike. I definetly will be back and highly recommend this site.

We enjoyed our quick pitstop at Savage Acres! We arrived late and left early as we were on a long road trip.

Highlights:
*Great location, close to Roanoke.
*Easy to find and access field. Google maps worked for us.
*Picnic table, string lights, fire pit were all provided, although we did not use them as it rained all evening. (Made for a beautiful foggy/cozy morning.)
*Ned's friends who live / stay on the property were incredibly kind and showed us around.

Lowlight: *The porta-potties were long overdue for servicing during our visit (Nearly full)

This was such a fantastic and perfect start to October!
We must have booked on the best weekend for this spot, the tree was such a rich golden color, the leaves were falling like rain on our tent, the creek was full of surprises and adventure was to be had by all 4 or our children (even by us adults).
To top it off we even got a special late night delivery of maple syrup🥰
The best thing by far for me, as a mom with kids, was having a stack of chopped wood waiting for us
We loved every second we were out there, thank you so much for sharing your special space with us!!!!
We will definitely be coming again.

this place is AMAZING!

pros:
-ned was super friendly, helpful and responsive.
-the creek and swimming hole were beautiful and our pups loved getting to splash around and “fish” in them
-we also enjoyed just exploring the property (the scenery was stunning!!)
-lots to do in the area as far as hiking and mountain biking
-lovely set up at the campsite (fire pit + table)

cons:
-the only thing that was a little tricky was not havin cell service/wife, just as far as planning things to do goes, but totally worth it!

we can’t wait to come back here!
