Gittn' Pickled is back! Re-opening in August 2026 with upgrades. Gittn' Pickled is located on VA620, a gravel road that doesn't see a lot of traffic. Trout Creek, a lively full year stream, is directly in front of the cabin and provides soothing sounds all day, and night. Gittn' Pickled is .6 miles Trail East of the Appalachian Trail on VA620. Appalachian Trail features Mcafees Knob, Dragon's Tooth, Audie Murphy Memorial, and Tinker Cliffs are just minutes away by motor vehicle. I've prepared a hiking guide to get you started. This is an awesome location to tackle the Triple Crown or just enjoy SW Virginia. Pickles Branch terminates into Trout Creek here. Pickles Branch is a beautiful stream in a cool and richly forested terrain. All of the Miller Cove ground water empties into Pickle's Branch which can become very impressive during high water events. Miller Cove, within the Jefferson National Forest, is an area that was once occupied by a small active community. You will find foundations of old structures, springs, creeks, orchards, mushrooms, ramps, wildlife, and much more. Miller Cove can be accessed, by foot, directly from the site. It can be an especially interesting and pleasant hike without the inconvenience of shuttles and parking. Two bunkbeds are provided with four twin long (35x80) mattresses. These are new hospital bed mattresses with non-permeable covers. Four standard size pillows with non-permeable covers and pillowcases are also provided. You should bring additional bedding as desired; sheets, blankets, etc.

What makes W.T. Farm special is the diversity of textures of the landscape. We have great mountain top views, as well as, a deep holler with cliffs, rock outcroppings, and waterfalls. The fields are full of fruit and nut trees and there are 5 ponds. Each of these supports its own flora and fauna. I acquired stewardship of this land years ago and have developed perennial orchards wherever possible. I started with pears and have branched out into pawpaws, apples, persimmons, currants, black walnuts etc. and I boast that I planted the first commercial hickory oil orchard in the world. I am an eccentric horticulturalist and graft cultivar varieties onto existing trees like oaks, hickories, black walnuts, and even the maligned invasive honeysuckle, autumn olive and multiflora rose. Just last year I bought an adjoining farm that opened up 50 acres of more orchard planting. It is on top of the mountain and offers an expansive view of the valley and ridge system that defines our region. Funny thing is that because the land between the old farm and the new farm is divided by cliffs in the holler the only way to get from one to the other is a 12 minute drive or vigorous hiking. On this new land is a historic log cabin I am renovating that is said to be one of the original settler's cabin on the mountain. Because of the amount of tree fruit I grow and the varied landscape, there is a rich diversity of birds and animals to be seen. One of my favorite walks is along the cliffs to the top waterfall where there is a sweet wading pool. I have also built a number of ponds and four of them are quite swimmable. One has a dock and is where we spend much summer time refreshing and frolicking. The farm is also a small (very small) licensed farm winery and we make and sell traditional hard cider from our apples and pears. Our cider can be purchased along with our nut oils and flours and other farm produce you may not be familiar with. We live to eat. Coming here is a gastronomical adventure! I run the Acornucopia project from here and from it we are developing a foragers network that would very much suit the lifestyle of hipcampers. We pay foragers for wild nuts they gather. A small washer dryer is also available. Please note, these can accommodate only small loads of laundry. You'll find bath towels and smaller towels specifically for drying off after a relaxing soak in the hot tub. We've stocked quality shampoo, conditioner, and body wash, as well as some basic toiletries in case a guest forgets to bring an item. Cozy Bear sits right by the large noisy, trout stocked creek, with a private hot tub between the creek and the cabin, and less than five miles from Hillsville, which has a grocery store, local shops, a gym, dining, and nearby hiking. There is a shared bathhouse with a conventional toilet and an outside shower, shared with tent guests occasionally. Inside Cozy Bear, there is a queen mattress up in the loft, and a sleeper sofa downstairs. The kitchen has a sink, coffee maker and on the deck is a blackstone griddle, a propane firepit and a wood burning firepit is by the creek. Cozy Bear has a composting toilet and a shower in the bathroom, an ac window unit and a beautiful propane fireplace. If the temps get extreme outside, the waterlines do freeze. I will gladly do a full refund or change your dates if the forecast is well below freezing, although this cabin is cozy and warm inside. Cozy Bear is solar power/ and grid and is a six mile drive to I-77 and the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Our cabin is located in the picturesque Kibler Valley just over the Virginia state line. It is equidistant from Mt. Airy, NC, and Stuart, VA. It is located directly on the Dan River, just down the mountain from its headwaters. The property sits 4 miles down a 6.5-mile dead-end road. At the end of the road is a hydroelectric power plant. During the summer months the water from the dam is released on weekends which makes for fantastic kayaking and tubing. The space Our cabin has two bedrooms with queen-size beds, as well as a full-size fold-out sofa in the den and a full-size futon in the sunroom. Due to the small size of our cabin, we have a limit of 4 guests. We have a large yard down by the river equipped with a fire pit, four Adirondack chairs, and a picnic table.

This was a great place! It was so peaceful and felt very private. Our dog had a great time running around in the woods (though we did have to pull a few ticks off of her later!) The place was very thoughtfully prepared, with bedside tables, a small table, and plenty of cookware. Outside there were chairs around the campfire pit and a picnic table. Plenty of water for drinking and washing. Would love to stay here again!

Weekend Trip to Jack's Run , Glade Hill, VA

Rustic while not lacking any amenities. We were so comfortable and appreciated all the little touches! There is a short walk through grass, and a gate, to get inside. This wasn't an issue but noted so you can be mindful the weight of items needed. Bugs weren't bad at all but helps to bring bug spray. The cabin itself was so charming. The pool took care of us in the heat and the barn was the perfect place to chill during the rain. Highly recommend 10/10!

1 night at The Cozy Bear on the creek/ hot tub

Creekside campground is an absolute gem! We started our stay tent camping right by the beautiful, rushing creek, which provided the most relaxing background noise at night. Halfway through our trip, we moved into one of their small, off-grid cabins, and it was the perfect cozy upgrade while still keeping that authentic nature connection. Each site comes with a great fire pit for evening campfires. Our camp host, JoDee, was extremely helpful and made us feel so welcome from the moment we arrived. The entire property is peaceful, and the clean bathrooms were a major plus. Our dogs were also in absolute heaven here. The property features massive, wide-open areas where they could run, play, and burn off energy safely. We will definitely be back!

3 nights at Wilderness Adventure

Sneaky Cabin was exactly what we were after for a quick birthday meetup between two families with kids from Elementary school to High School. We floated the nearby James both days, did some trail running on the Outer Space trail on the property, mountain biking. I will say we also really enjoyed the creek, Gaga ball, snd tether ball. Staff and other guest were friendly. 100% of us returning…!

2 nights at Marshall Creek Farm

The Marshall Creek Cabin was secluded and peaceful. It was all set up so minimal supplies were needed. Decor was simple and inviting. Darin was very responsive to my questions. There was a nice trail to walk, and a fire pit for the evening to relax by. There were solar lights both outside and inside. The is no AC/Heat and it is clearly advertised . We came prepared with a battery operated fan. Luckily for us we had cool weather nights in mid June so we slept in comfort. We saw the owl house hanging on a tree and actually heard it at night. There is a shower (no hot water unless you heat it over the fire) and a portable jon both just 20-30 steps from the cabin. I would highly recommend this site to anyone. I will hopefully return. It was the perfect getaway for my husband and myself.

Have stayed there twice now, and it's a beautiful property. The cabin is rustic and amazing, and on a hot day you can't beat the pool. Great place for a getaway. Would definitely recommend.

Weekend Trip to Floyd EcoVillage

The cabin had a comfort of a hotel mixed with neatly groomed campsite. Visited local shops in Floyd. Recommend the Marby Mill. First and third Sundays 2_4pm have local bluegrass players at the mill. Pack a picnic and bring a chair. Really close to blue rage parkway.

Weekend Trip to Beaverdam Falls

This was the first time my husband and I booked a campsite off of Hipcamp and we couldn’t have chosen a better location! This place is amazing! The property is so beautiful and relaxing. We booked top of the rock and absolutely loved it! Beau and his team are so nice and chill. It’s incredible that they share this place with the public. We will definitely be back!

5 nights at Jack's Run , Glade Hill, VA

This is the second time my husband and I have stayed at Shirley’s place and we loved it both times! The cabin is very well equipped with anything you need cook and we love the rustic charm of the entire place. The pool was clean and refreshing. The screened porch was perfect for coffee in the mornings and scrabble in the afternoons. The stars were incredibly bright and the sunrises were amazing as always! Our dogs also loved being able to run around and explore :). We can’t recommend this hip camp enough!

Me, my husband and a pup stayed at Darin & Beth’s cabin for two nights. It was absolutely perfect! The cabin is super clean, everything you need is provided. A lot of privacy and space for the dog to run around! We are already planning when to come back!
