The Zen Den is an off-grid glamping experience in a round, wooden, cozy bungalow overlooking the rhododendron garden (max 2), and the Peace Pad tent platform, an 14 x 14 raised wooden platform ready for your tent, in a meadow next to a gently flowing creek (max 4 adults). Four permanent residences also enjoy the beauty of Nelson Mountain Gardens. Each are separate and away from the campsites. You are welcome to bring your well-behaved dog(s). Limit 2. Our farm is nestled at the end of Honey Grove Valley in the lush coastal mountains. The creek meanders through our seven acre property. The north side contains a field, small orchard, greenhouses and barn. The south side is steep and wooded with healthy riparian. An extension to the Honey Grove trail leads out of the property accessing a user maintained hiking/mountain biking trail with 1.5, 3, 5 and 7 mile loop options.
Other nearby activities include hiking and mountain biking in Mary's Peak and Alsea Falls recreational area. Access to the Alsea River is located 1.5 miles from the property on Honey Grove Road or at nearby Clemmons Park.
The guest cabin has two rooms and can sleep (4) guests comfortably and up to (6) guests. It contains (2) queen size beds, and one pull out couch. One bed is in a loft accessed by a ship ladder. There is a small kitchen and an un-attached bathhouse. The toilet is non-flush, composting. From the designated parking area there is a 200 foot walk along a gravel path to the cabin.
Other features include a fire pit, wood fired sauna, and creek access for cold dips. Internet is available in the cabin. There is a Level 1 vehicle charger available for guests.
The property also contains a host residence. The area around the residence is for the hosts.
The cabin and the property are very quaint and inviting but also very rustic. Do not be surprised to see a few or many spiders, slugs and other bugs. There are occasional bunnies, wild turkeys, Garter Snakes by the ponds and newts on the trails. Please maintain good situational awareness when enjoying the property as structures and grounds may have some inherent hazards.
The barn is off limits. Greenhouse and gardens are fine to explore as long as doors and gates are closed and dogs are kept out. Please refrain from harvesting produce and/or eggs unless accompanied or given permission from hosts directly.

Octopus Garden is a seaside cottage set up on sand dunes along the central Oregon coast. This is a classic retro 1950s cottage with spectacular front-row views of the Pacific Ocean, shoreline, and beach.
Since it is just two doors down from beach access, beach exploration here is endless, with golden-brown fine sand, no insects, and no litter. As this is one of the more remote stretches of the western seaboard, there are no high-rise hotels or condos—just cabins spaced apart, offering a unique feeling of being almost alone with the vast ocean and shoreline.
Wildlife is abundant, including birds and sea creatures. I have personally seen seals, and guests have reported seeing whales passing by while staying at the cottage.
Eagles are also frequently seen soaring overhead and landing on the beach.
Horseback riding is available nearby, including beach rides, as well as abundant hiking trails, especially around Cape Perpetua. Numerous scenic trails can also be spotted while driving along Highway 101 from Florence to Yachats.
The beautiful Heceta Head Lighthouse and Keeper’s Quarters are perched on a cliff near the cottage and are stunning in both location and architecture. Volunteers are often available to provide information and short tours.
The Sea Lion Caves offer a unique opportunity to observe sea lions safely in their natural habitat. Visitors can view them through glass and learn about their behavior. There is also a gift shop offering a variety of items for all ages.
Yachats has a fun, welcoming vibe with charming shops and great places to eat. One favorite is “Just Local,” which sells handmade crafts and kitchen goods with local style and flair. Another favorite is Luna Sea Fish House, known for fresh daily-caught seafood in a lively atmosphere. I once had lunch there while being entertained by a musician playing cello and other string instruments.
Florence, Oregon also offers numerous shops and restaurants, primarily in the historic Old Town area along the Siuslaw River. My favorite restaurant in Florence is the Waterfront Depot. The food and drinks are excellent, and the service is outstanding.

Very small backyard campground on the outskirts of Veneta. Urban camping at its best—clean, welcoming, and comfortable. Four sites to choose from with friendly, helpful hosts. Highlights of this original home include a gourmet kitchen with labradorite granite counters, 800 year old juniper tree spiral stair case, huge beams and exposed rafters, a sauna, and a romantic wood stove. Also each upstairs bedroom has a hanging bed with three 8 foot skylights above for indoor star gazing. Original artworks from local artists are throughout the home. Many pleasantries await the curious such as embedded fossils in the cracked mud walls.Nestled amongst towering fir and cedar trees, with windows everywhere, you'll feel and see nature's presence. This home site has a remarkably peaceful way about it.
Recently featured in Southern Oregon Magazine and KCBY 11 TV's ~In Focus~ 'Goin' Green' and Oregon's Solar Home Tour, this is a unique 'green' home. This home was built with environmentally friendly materials. Building with little impact on the surroundings was very important to us during construction. The myrtle hardwood floor in the kitchen and living room was milled on site which came from trees that stood where the house is now. Same story for the beautiful maple flooring in the ½ bath. All of the large beams and fir flooring came from two 4' thick 104 year old douglas fir trees which also stood and were milled where the house is now. The fir trees sprouted after the last forest fire that came through the canyon. One of our neighbors fell a sixty five year old redwood that was over six feet thick! We used some of it as a wonderful wainscot paneling throughout the house. All of the finishes used are no or low VOC. Surrounding the house is native vegetation, huge trees and a few herbs and spices for cooking.
You'll enjoy the fully equipped kitchen with labradorite granite counters. The kitchen island has a new five burner gas stove with a convection oven and warming oven. The island has plenty of granite and wood counter space. Hanging from the exhaust hood are stainless, non-stick, and cast iron cookware. We also provide shade grown fair trade coffee and a grinder, espresso machine, coffee maker, toaster, microwave, utensils, chef knives, glasses and frosty cocktail glasses in the freezer. The dining room table has a river view and can seat six comfortably. There is also seating for three at the island bar. From the kitchen you can visit with the folks in the living room thanks to the open floor plan. Beside the wood stove are two chairs and the futon couch with reading lamp. A CD changer, TV with a DVD player and VHS machine are in the downstairs bedroom. Bring your favorite videos or browse our selection of movies.
The property has 150 feet of creek frontage with great views of Glenn creek, the forest and distant cliffs. Enjoy wildlife viewing with River Dippers, Chipmunks, Kingfishers, Great Blue Herons, Screech Owls, Pileated Wood Peckers, Elk, an occasional Bald Eagle or River Otter and other wildlife from the house and back deck. Build a fire and have lunch on the nearby picnic table and benches.

Perfect spot for easy camping. Hosts are very friendly and attentive. The site is clean with more amenities than most locations. Natural water features are super close and the fishing at the lake is quite good. Kid friendly, keep pets on their leashes, and you're good to go.

Such a great place for a getaway and not having to set up a tent was even nicer for the shorter time away. The hosts were fantastic with communication and made sure we had everything we needed. We really appreciated all the little touches they had inside and outside of the tent. We did not expect the other tents to be as close as they were but the other guests were quiet and to themselves. We absolutely plan to be back and with friends to have even more fun on the creek!

Weekend Trip to The Land of AHS
Beautiful stay! My husband and I stayed one night and just like everyone else we wish we would've stayed longer. Don't be fooled by how far out of town it looks on the map, it is barely 10 minutes from downtown. You can barely hear the cars go by at night. the firewood was plentiful and dry, which made for a super hot fire even on a rainy night. The wood stove worked almost too well (lows were in the 40s) and the bed was comfortable. The composting toilet didn't smell at all, just of sawdust. The dog, Sadie, showed us around and was a very well behaved pup. The bathhouse was the cleanest bathroom I've ever seen at a campsite.

Weekend Trip to Tide's Reach of the Umpqua
This tucked away spot right on the Umpqua river was one of the most beautiful places I’ve stayed. We swam in the river, cooked wonderful meals, and slept amazingly. The local street, and town were so welcoming. Lots of hidden nature spots, as well. The hosts were phenomenal, absolutely phenomenal, in communication, and suggestions, and how they prepared the space for our stay, etc. Truly 10/10. I will be coming back! Their guest book says it all- all of the things you need were there, the details provided a truly special getaway, and I am so glad we found this place! You will be lucky to come stay here.

2 nights at Tide's Reach of the Umpqua
Me and my girlfriend had such an amazing time at Jeff’s camp. The view was breathtaking and the river was perfect for kayaking on the provided kayaks and swimming when it was sunny out. The dome was incredibly comfortable and the kitchen shed proved an amazing addition. Everything was easy to use and Jeff was amazing with his communication our entire stay. Reaching out multiple times so make sure we had anything who may need. My only complaint would be we couldn’t stay longer!

Weekend Trip to Scooters Pad at Gonzo's Place
I got a great sleep in the RV camper here looking up at the tall trees through the skylight/sunroof! Clean and cutely decorated. Also enjoyed the swing by the fire pit. A lovely alternative to the overpriced accommodations in Eugene!

1 night at Nelson Mountain Gardens
We had tent camped for 3 nights down on coast and needed a place to spend a night to break up the long trip back to Portland. The Zen retreat was absolutely perfect for this! Located down a winding well paved country road, you feel far away from the hustle. We were greeted by Alyc and a couple of friendly dogs. They showed us around the stunning gardens and the amenities. Mary has built many of the structures and the craftsmanship of the sauna, cabin etc are remarkable! The Zen Den felt like a treehouse and was as described, but even more charming in person. We used the shower house and sauna and then slept so peacefully on the comfortable firm mattress. We did not light a fire in the cabin because it was warm enough without one. In the morning, we made coffee down in the communal kitchen over the barn. Composting outhouse toilet was adorable and as expected. Everything was neat and tidy and exceeded expectations! Enjoyed meeting the horse, cat and dogs. It was calming to explore the paths and little nooks on the gardens. Would love to stay here again!

Weekend Trip to Nelson Mountain Gardens
This was our last Oregon stop for our CA/OR road trip, and we could not have been more satisfied. The Zen Den gave us the best sleep we had all trip and Alys was very friendly and greeted us upon arrival/check-in. If you are looking for a place to get away and chill just outside Eugene, then this is your place. It has everything you need with a well maintained kitchen area, clean composting toilet, and fire-pit by the creek. Thank you Mary & Alys!

This was an amazing stay! So beautiful and serene, an absolute gem. The trails are gorgeous and so relaxing. The hosts were very accommodating, especially for my reactive dog, and responsive which made it even better. We really enjoyed our stay and the property. I would recommend this stay to everyone!
