This is a camping cabin, in the middle of the Daniel Boone National Forest. If you are into primitive camping and living, then this is the right place for you! Many types of wildlife and critters may be encountered during your camping adventure. Deer, turkey, squirrel, snakes of different types, and lots of wood bugs inhabit the woods. We are about 85 acres, surrounded by hundreds of acres of national Forest, located about 2 minutes from the Sheltowee Trail, and approximately 30 minutes away from Cave Run Lake, and 30 minutes from Carter Caves State Park. The cabin is off grid, but has a generator for heat and Air conditioning. The outside toilet is close to the cabin and has a "Wash up" area. There is also an outdoor shower on the property just a short walk away, down behind the host's garage, that features hot water. A great place to relax and detach from the stress of society for a few days, or hike, hunt, or head over to Cave Run Lake for some fishing. Tranquility and peace await you here.

Big Laurel is a working cattle farm on land that has been in our family for 4 generations. The farm consists of 370 acres of bottomland pasture along the creek and quiet woodlands where you can explore jagged rock cliffs and beautiful vistas. The woodlands are undergoing transformation as we continue an ongoing forest rehabilitation project to return our land to its natural state as a deciduous hardwood forest. Our remote 375 acres part farm and part natural woodland nestled up to Daniel Boone Forest is ideal for hikers and nature lovers. There are several hiking trails onsite and plenty of woods to explore. ATVs or side by sides are welcome to be used on the main gravel roads and some designated areas of our property. There is plenty of wildlife but NO hunting is allowed. Some of our designated tent sites do have firepits and/or picnic tables. Our trek in sites do not have those options. Pets are welcome for $10 per pet/per booking and they do need to be leashed/under control at all times. This is an extra so please be sure to add that if you plan to bring your pet. Please pick up after them. We are a short driving distance from West Liberty, Cave Run Lake, Grayson Lake, Carter Caves, Morehead, Natural Bridge and Red River Gorge. We are approximately 20 minutes from the nearest store so you'll want to come prepared. We are located in West Liberty (Morgan County). There are 2 centrally located bathhouses with toilet, shower and sink and a hose for potable water. We have firewood for sale for $20 per stay and is an extra option when booking(use what you need during your stay and it is centrally located near bath houses) you can bring your own and you are welcome to gather from the surrounding area but please do not cut down any living trees/limbs. There is a centrally located community building with a Wifi hotspot, streaming TV, Keurig, microwave, fridge/freezer, toaster/air fryer, swing set, foosball table and darts.

The Viking longhall has been 9 years in the making by a group of semi serious Viking enthusiasts: the result is a 60 foot long building that has 18, 8,x4' sleeping berths. Set apart from the main open area it also boasts 2 meeting rooms and a kitchen. The campsite is a very peaceful place. Some go as far as to say a healing place! We are proud of what we have achieved and now want people to come out and enjoy it also. The field is close enough to the Appalachian highway (state route 32) for convenience, but far enough not to be bothered by it. The area is steeped in Native American culture. In fact, the world famous Serpent Mound is but 8 miles away, with many other Adena culture sites within easy driving distance. It's also in the heart of the Amish community. The area is known for its natural beauty with many hiking trails and canoeing opportunities. The area is awash in beauty and history from the ancient mound culture to the amish culture. The area has many hiking trails some of which are part of the buckeye trail and range in length from an easy 1 mile loop to rugged hikes of many miles. Perfect little cabin for us and our 2 pups. Plenty of outside space to run around and creek explore. My girls loved walking the creek the whole time. Plenty of dry firewood provided (thank you)! The “outhouse” was very clean and we appreciated the provided water for teeth brushing and hand washing. We would come back again for a quiet getaway.

Weekend Trip to The Viking Longhall

Our stay at the Viking Longhall was wonderful! We stayed with a small group of friends and, lucky for us, we basically had the place to ourselves for the weekend. We played in the creek and spent time around the fire. It's a really chill environment, and especially fun for a bunch of ren faire/DnD nerds like ourselves! We had the Creekside Cottage and our friends were in the Yurt. Both shelters were awesome. They provide tons of options for cooking and all the little things you might forget. My only regret is that we only had a few days! The grounds and Longhall are truly something to behold. Hearing about the history of the place made it even cooler! We can't wait to go back! Super close to Serpent Mound, also closeby are other sacred Native American sites, hiking areas and state parks, and more. Thanks, Dave, for the hospitality! Can't wait to meet Iveagh too next time!

We loved staying here, what a blessing. The hosts are SO kind, and the cabin was clean upon arrival. The land is stunning. The cabin had everything we needed, and after our previously booked stay was cancelled due to wildfire smoke we were so beyond grateful to find it last minute! It was so affordable and the area around is stunning! Highly recommend hiking the trails at red river gorge.

I absolutely loved camping at Basil’s property. There were so many things to do. I loved the fact that the bungalow was completely stocked from head to toe with utensils, cooking supplies, pots pans everything you could think of they already had on site! Which isn’t something you normally see when utilizing this application. We loved the fact that we were surrounded by nature noises and there was no light pollution. We were able to see so many stars because of the set up. If you have the opportunity to try the outdoor shower, it is one of the coolest freaking experiences ever and something I will be daydreaming about for years to come!!!

The cabin is super cozy and has tons of items for you to use during the stay. The beds and pillows are so comfortable and the host provided 3 jugs of potable water for our use. The outhouse had a wasp nest but she had taken care of it before our arrival and also offered alternative accommodation for the bathroom should the wasps return. We went to the nearby Serpents Mound and swam at Rocky Fork lake after our hike. It was great spot on the top of a hill away from neighbors and we would definitely recommend!

David made us feel welcome and taken care of. I appreciated the fire already being built since we arrived close to dark. It’s clear they have taken a lot of care to create a unique space. The creek is perfect - somehow there were no mosquitos. Would definitely stay here again. We happened to be the only ones staying on the land that night so it felt very private, but I think it would still be a nice experience with multiple guests staying at the other cabins due to the landscaping making you feel “tucked”.

If you're looking to get away, unplugged, reset this is the place. Absolutely beautiful, tucked away in a holler. First thing we all noticed was the thought the host put into our stay. It was put together in a way even the kids wanted to leave it the way we found it. When they say all you need is your favorite pillow or blanket, they mean it. The host was welcoming, friendly and knowledgeable about the area. Very respectful as far as privacy. Also, more than willing to offer assistance if asked. Sitting next to the fire, listening to the creek flowing, the fireflies, the sounds of the whippoorwill, it all made for a whimsical stay. One which we will plan again.

After studying Norse Mythology, my 4th graders had a culminating overnight at this Viking Longhall. It was exactly the experience I was hoping for! David was very accommodating and hospitable. They loved the archery, creek swing, fire pit and the ambiance of the longhouse and yurt!
