Currently there are 14 miles of purpose built trails, with plans to install up to 30 miles of natural surface trails that will create access to and feature the natural beauty of the property, which includes open meadows, mature hardwood forests, rock outcroppings, an area of volcanic activity, seven freshwater springs, headwater streams (including Brook Trout habitat), and three distinct knobs. Our property was a small family farm for several generations. Our family purchased the property about 18 years ago. Since we are not farmers but love living here, the question became "What would be the best use for the land?" Living in a scenic area and already being in the vacation rental business on some other family property answered the question. We decided to share the beautiful view and seclusion of our area with others.
Our goal was to keep the cost of building down so that we could pass on the savings to you so that you would not have to be rich to enjoy our lovely area. This inspired the idea of a glamping cabin. The cabin is actually a repurposed office building that was built about the time this property was purchased by our family. We moved it to the present location and completely remodelled it in 2018 and added the bathroom. For 4 years, guests enjoyed an off-the-grid experience.
In 2023, when we began work on the glamping dome (stay tuned--coming soon!!), we decided to add electricity, running water, and a hot tub to the tiny house!
We hope you enjoy the cabin (and, soon, the dome) and the stunning view from them as much as we enjoy sharing this beautiful spot with you!
Note: The Charming Glamping Cabin is at a totally different property. That property also has a section that used to be farmed. Now a lot of it is forest. We purchased the property around 2000. This cabin was built approx. 10 years later. At that point, the cabin was a tiny economy cabin with a sofa bed. However, it seemed most folks preferred comfort over economy, so in 2020, we added a bump-out to the side of the cabin so there would be room for a queen bed. Guests have loved the improvement. (:

Beaverdam Falls is a rare place for the lack of stone and the centuries of beavers who have left their trace in & on our creek—and swamp, the Stick Marsh, which has an active beaver dam. Be careful! The cabins are primitive, no electric or water. There are solar lights inside and and out also a propane wall heater for chilly nights. This is comfortable camping in the Beautiful Mountains of WV. There is a shower house with instant hot water and outside spigots for water, a porta potty, a fire-pit for cooking and camp fires at night while star gazing. The property is over 100 acres in Greenbrier county WV. There is a lot of history in this area. There are tons of wildlife on the property as well. We have awesome trails with GREAT Views for hiking or horse back riding should you decide to bring your own equine. Pets are allowed with prior notice (not to be left unattended in the cabins). What do you get when you cross a former 60 Minutes producer with a defense finance executive? Yeah, we're not sure either. But here we are, having envisioned leaving television and the corporate slog behind to build a tiny cabin lodging business in the woods.
What we lack in sanity, we make up for in absolute love of the outdoors and the majestic beauty of Highland County, Virginia. The people, the Allegheny Mountains, the star-filled sky, the rushing rivers, the farm-to-table food, the cider, the local honey, and the maple syrup...all of it drew us in, and we made this place our home.
We didn't just want to build a business...we wanted to create a life around it. So, naturally, we bought 135 acres surrounded by National Forest, packed up our old life, our dogs, our adventure motorcycles, and Jeff's way-too-many backpacks, and jumped on the crazy train that would consume our lives for the next year as we gathered the people and resources to bring Virginia Backcountry Cabins to life.
We want to tell stories by the campfire. We want to fly fish, hike, and climb. We want to cold plunge in our spring-fed creek. We want to let the day melt away in a wood-fired sauna.

The property is gorgeous, the river adds to the beautiful charm, and the cabin has all of the creature comforts you could want for glamping. 10/10 would recommend. Weekend Trip to Beaverdam Falls
What a lovely piece of land. Unique is an understatement. We loved all the bridges, short hiking trails, and the SUPER rare sulphudic cave right on the property.
We stayed at "Top of the Rock II" and only have good things to say about the little cabin. You are literally camping at the top of the waterfall, just incredible.
Toilet/Bathroom Situation:
- there are two pristine portajohns just a 30 second walk away from the site
- if you have a more urgent situation, they did outfit the cabin with a bucket toilet (honestly, it was about as classy as a bucket toilet can get) - it was hidden beneath a wooden toilet box with proper liners In the receptacle)
Shower Situation:
- They have a shared "lounge" in a small trailer where you can access an indoor toilet, running water, and a heated indoor shower.
- The shower left a bit to be desired, the shower didn't drain particularly well, but at least the water was hot.
Kitchen:
- there is a private picnic table outside of the cabin with a wooden cupboard that contains a bunch of cutlery, plates, lighters, and even a butane camp stove

Stayed here over this past weekend and was very impressed. Price was very reasonable and accommodations were significantly better than expected - everything was very nice and included an excellent grill, good furniture/bedding, and a kitchen stocked with the essentials (pots, pans, utensils, coffee makers [Keurig and regular coffee pot], and so on). The cabin itself is at the end of the other lodges - so it's a bit more private - which is also nice.
Additionally, when we first arrived the hot tub was not hot. I called the front desk, and they came out with 30 minutes and fixed the issue, and it warmed up by evening. Great service and the staff were super friendly.
Also, the river is only about 30 feet away from the cabin. We did lots of fishing and it was awesome to have it so close to our location.

Weekend Trip to Beaverdam Falls
If you love the wilderness, being alone, exploring, and being unplugged, this place is absolutely for you. I stayed in an A-Frame cabin that had a direct view of the large waterfall. The campsite was fully equipped with absolutely everything I needed. Three different ways to cook, firepit, grill, and little stove. All of the utensils, pots and pans to cook with and dishes to eat from. A little camping toilet in the cabin. The ceilings were so amazing and the bed was very comfortable. The hosts were very VERY responsive and accommodating. I would 100% recommend this experience to anyone who needs to find themselves. It definitely provided my soul what it needed.

Spent a weekend during the fall season of 2025. Perfect cabin tucked away in a different section away from most of the RVs. The river runs next to it which will be wonderful during rains and when the water levels are up. We traveled as a family of 4 whereas the cabin can sleep 9 - 2 bunk beds for 4 kids. Elkins town is about 10 -15 minute drive for all groceries - Kroger, Walmart and all essentials. Strongly recommend for people who love to enjoy an RV park but want to maintain their own personal space..

Weekend Trip to CB Ranch Camp -Almost Heaven cabins
Beautiful land very private and quiet. Place was roomy and comfy and loved the bear theme. Could see all the stars at night. We saw deer in the morning frolicking in the fall colors. They had a nice set up prepared for a small bonfire and water jugs to extinguish before bed which was a nice touch. There was a propane heater and plenty of blankets. We took a walk to the pond and located some frogs. We never made it to the shower but the area has plenty to do. We went to a cidery, drive over an 1800# covered bridge, lost caves and bridge day. Will come back some day.

It was a perfect spot. You literally are sleeping on top of a waterfall. You can hear it at night with and without the windows open. perfect spot for a campfire and grilling food which has a grate. They even have a community space that has an oven and things too if you prefer to cook that way, I hung twinkle lights all over the place to give it a cute feel and also the community space they offer free coffee and they also have snacks and other items to purchase. The cave was neat to explore on the property! You can even sit at the bottom of the waterfall and have a picnic or just hang out, you can even swim in it too! At the cabin they even made a trail directly to it for those that stay in this cabin. The space was perfect at the cabin for my dog. I had him on a 20 foot lead and worked out perfect.

Weekend Trip to MountainTop
Upon entering the first gate I really like the open horse field. After that it was really cool to cross the stream and drive up to where the Cabin itself is located. We loved how small the Cabin was while also having everything you could need. We also enjoyed walking out on the back deck every morning and seeing the pond. One morning it rained and the sounds were beautiful. The bunk beds and couch were super comfy for sleeping each night. Will definitely be back to enjoy the peaceful, relaxing, quiet vibe of the place.

We stayed with friends in the campground at Seneca State Forest -- it was one of the best most peaceful campsites we've ever stayed in for more than a decade. The 10 campsites were well spaced. We had a lot of privacy because nobody else was camping there at the time, but there would have been plenty of distance if we'd had neighbors. The tent site was level and there were trees for hammocks (wide straps, of course). There was a sump area for doing dishes and dumping dishwater (strained, of course). The on-site bathroom was a concrete pit toilet, but at the ranger station there are two clean, private shower/bathrooms that were free for campers. No cell service as it's in the Green Bank Quiet Zone.
