"It's too far, they said. There's nothing there, they said." Nestled right in the heart of “where the heck am I” Virginia, a tiny cabin dream was born. Virginia Backcountry Cabins is a place of community and storytelling centered around 10 individually themed cabins loaded with character…run by characters…patronized by characters. Unpretentious and adventurous, the cabins sit on 135 private acres and back up to thousands of acres of National Forest. A shot of happy, sans jitters. What do you get when you cross a former 60 Minutes producer with a defense finance executive? Yeah, we're not sure either. But here we are, having envisioned leaving television and the corporate slog behind to build a tiny cabin lodging business in the woods. What we lack in sanity, we make up for in absolute love of the outdoors and the majestic beauty of Highland County, Virginia. The people, the Allegheny mountains, the star-filled sky, the rushing rivers, the farm-to-table food, the cider, the local honey and maple syrup... all of it drew us in, and we made this place our home. We didn't just want to build a business...we wanted to create a life around it. So, naturally, we bought 135 acres surrounded by National Forest and packed up our old life, our dogs, our adventure motorcycles, Jeff's way-too-many backpacks, and jumped on the crazy train that would consume our lives for the next year as we gathered the people and resources to bring Virginia Backcountry Cabins to life. We want to tell stories by the campfire. We want to fly fish, hike, and climb. We want to cold plunge in our spring-fed creek. We want to let the day melt away in a wood-fired sauna. We want to build, curate, and work hard to make this wacky dream thrive. Most of all, we can't wait to meet and share this little haven in the woods with you.

#1 - Adventure Motorcycle Cabin

Cabin · Sleeps 2
Braap! You've been riding the trails hard all day, picking up mud and perhaps even your bike a time or ten. End your day by practicing your skills on this cabin's vintage Sega Hang-On arcade game. Kick back with a cold cider on your deck. Relax those tired limbs in our wood-fired sauna, and get rested up for another day of moto antics. The ADV cabin features two twin beds and a heap of riding inspiration. Even if you're not fresh off the Backcountry Discovery Route, you'll enjoy this gnarly oasis. This cabin is a two-story, tiny cabin with a ladder to the upper floor. If you are not comfortable climbing a ladder, please consider our fly-fishing or nature cabin, both of which are single-story. Cabin is well-appointed with a microwave, mini fridge, electric tea kettle, and instant coffee and tea. Cabins have electricity and excellent infrared heaters to keep you toasty on cold nights. Starlink wifi is available at the cabins. Cabins do not have plumbing. You will find water available in the mini fridge. There are four individual, and quite bougie, bath houses located adjacent to the cabins, each featuring a shower, toilet, and sink. We are on 135 acres of forested land, backing up to tens of thousands of acres of National Forest. Food garbage must be disposed of nightly in one of our bear-proof trash cans located near the electrical panels with the little red roofs. Quiet hours are 10 pm - 8 am. Please keep noise at a low level during these hours.

Cabin · Sleeps 2
The ultimate basecamp for summit seekers and rock huggers, our hiking cabin is perfect after a long day of questionable choices. Throw down your gear and kick off your hiking boots in the large loft featuring a queen bed. Plan tomorrow's hiking route out on the deck, or hone your skills on the outdoor climbing wall on the back side of the cabin. Seneca Rocks and its 450 climbing routes are just a dirtbag-van ride away. Blisters be damned...chalk on friends. This cabin is a two-story, tiny cabin with a ladder to the upper floor. If you are not comfortable climbing a ladder, please consider our fly-fishing or nature cabin, both of which are single-story. #2 - Writers Cabin

Cabin · Sleeps 2
"It was the best of times, it was the worst of times." Clearly, Dickens did not coin that line while staying in this cabin, because there is no conjuring of "worst times" here. Surrounded by vintage typewriters and antique furnishings, you may well pen your own masterpiece while staying in this little cabin curated for book lovers and literary dabbler. The upstairs loft of the Writers' cabin features a queen-size bed perfect for snuggling into on cool Highland nights. Keep the amber glow of your stained-glass bedside lamp beaming while you cozy up with a novel; switch off when you're ready to open your loft window to peek at the stars and let the mountain air fill you up with ideas. Our main house also has an amazing collection of books in our library, complete with a quiet and comfy atmosphere for you to inspire your next bestseller. This cabin is a two-story, tiny cabin with a ladder to the upper floor. If you are not comfortable climbing a ladder, please consider our fly-fishing or nature cabin, both of which are single-story. #3 - Fly Fishing Cabin

Cabin · Sleeps 2
Whether you're a seasoned caster or just like wearing waders for the aesthetic, you'll enjoy the rustic charm of this fly-fishing themed chalet cabin with a cozy twin bunk and walls that will keep your fish story secrets. Our closest cabin to the creek, this beautifully curated space with lots of fly fishing memorabilia, a deck, and a single-story footprint will keep you snug as a bug while you dream about the one that got away...or the one that may or may not have been a submerged stick. And if you are serious about learning to fly fish in the neighboring stocked streams, we have a local guide for hire who can make your "rainbow" dreams come true. Heck, she can even teach you how to tie your own flies! This cabin is one of our two single-story chalet cabins, perfect for those who are not comfortable climbing the loft ladders. Please note there is a short ladder to the top bunk bed in this unit. Cabin is well-appointed with a microwave, mini fridge, electric tea kettle, and instant coffee and tea. #4 - Vintage Motorcycle Cabin

Cabin · Sleeps 2
Whew...that last corner was a doozy. The sidecar ended up 3 feet in the air, and you were certain you were going to wind up either squirreling into the mountainside to your left or taking a splash in the creek to your right. But you hung on tight, and the ol' 1972 BMW airhead stayed the course. After that hectic adventure, you're ready to settle into a comfy cabin that reminds you why you love sweeping curves and the smell of a vintage engine. Surrounded by unique motorcycle art from past Isle of Man TTs and shelves full of vintage motorcycle toys, you will be inspired to create your own stories from the road. Our vintage motorcycle cabin features a vaulted ceiling and a half loft with two twin beds suitable for those under 6 feet tall (The half loft limits mattress length to 72"). Or you can put the two together lengthwise and snuggle with your homie. We won't judge you after a long day of riding. This cabin has a ladder to the small sleeping loft. If you are not comfortable climbing a ladder, please consider our fly-fishing or nature cabin, both of which are single-story. The loft in this cabin is 6 feet long, and the two twin mattresses are also 6 feet long. If you are taller than 6 feet, you may find another cabin more comfortable for sleeping. (The Winter cabin also has a 6' sleeping area, but all others are standard bed length. Cabin is well-appointed with a microwave, mini fridge, electric tea kettle, and instant coffee and tea. Cabins have electricity and excellent infrared heaters to keep you toasty on cold nights. Starlink wifi is available at the cabins. Cabins do not have plumbing. #5 - Music Cabin

Cabin · Sleeps 2
There's treble in paradise inside this music-themed cabin, where the only thing louder than the décor is your cousin trying to play Wonderwall on the kazoo for the 14th time. Whether you're a shower singer, an air guitarist, or a seasoned virtuoso, this place is your personal studio full of instruments to inspire (or make you realize you need to keep your day job). Inside, you'll find an electric and 12-string acoustic guitar, bongos, a small xylophone, and even a tiny stage to play for your audience of none. For those whose musical talents make a squeaky door seem like a symphony, there is a small record player and a wall of records to choose from. Upstairs is a queen bed and plenty of space for you and your groupies to kick back after a long day of being a rock star. #6 - Nature Cabin (with Hot Tub!)

Cabin · Sleeps 2
Close to our mile-long creek and far from the urban struggle, this charming single-story cabin is perfectly suited for long, lazy days in a hammock. The squirrel drama is strong, and we cannot guarantee a mildly judgmental deer won't stare through the window, but amongst it all are hiking trails and the sound of birds flitting about. This single-story hideaway features a twin-over-twin bunk bed and cozy décor. The nature cabin also features our only private outdoor two-person hot tub. It's like camping, but with better sheets and fewer mysterious bug bites. Namaste...forest edition. Cabins have electricity and excellent infrared heaters to keep you toasty on cold nights. #7 - Winter Cabin

Cabin · Sleeps 2
Sidle up with a cup of hot cocoa with too many marshmallows (once you're done debating whether there is actually such a thing as "too many" marshmallows). A cozy electric woodstove with the most realistic flames technology can conjure up, a braided rug, lanterns, games...why, you'll be kickin' like you're straight outta a camp in the mountains of Vermont. No matter the time of year, this snuggle shack has you feeling like winter is the best season. The cozy half loft has two 6' long twin beds, beckoning you into a burrito of warmth and laziness. So pretend your car got buried in the snow and you forgot a shovel. Darn, gotta' stay in today! We are on 135 acres of forested land, backing up to tens of thousands of acres of National Forest. Food garbage must be disposed of nightly in one of our bear-proof trash cans located near the electrical panels with the little red roofs. Quiet hours are 10 pm - 8 am. Steep trails and epic wipeouts...leave your bruised ego at the door of this two-wheeled paradise. Whether you ride the sweeping Highland County pavement, involve trails that are fun and flowy, or terrain that screams "you might need dental insurance," you'll find respite in our cycling cabin full of things you'll appreciate, such as a bike rack, pump, tools, and a mini-fridge for your post-ride beverages. The large loft features a queen bed ready to peddle you into a slumber fit for the trail-beast you know you are. This cabin is a two-story, tiny cabin with a ladder to the upper floor. If you are not comfortable climbing a ladder, please consider our fly-fishing or nature cabin, both of which are single-story. #9 - Cinema Cabin

Cabin · Sleeps 2
In the cinema cabin, every night is movie night, and popcorn is considered a food group. The director said Cut loose and relax in the woods among vintage cameras, vintage movie posters, and other cinematic inspiration. The cinema cabin boasts a queen bed in the large loft, big enough to put on your own show. Around the outside back of the cabin is a stage and movie screen for weather-dependent movie nights. There's a popcorn popper and cinema seating inside for two, as well as a drop-down screen for your own personal Netflix and Chill nights. That's a wrap! This cabin is a two-story, tiny cabin with a ladder to the upper floor. If you are not comfortable climbing a ladder, please consider our fly-fishing or nature cabin, both of which are single-story.
