Whistlin' Pine Ranch Resort

15 sites · Lodging, RVs, Tents500 acres · Pateros, WA
Exquisitely beautiful area formed by melting glaciers forming the "Alta Coulee". The campground is situated at the South end of Alta Lake, opened in 1946 and operated by my Grandparents until 1980 when my father decided to continue operations, adding Outfitting and Guide services into the Pasayten and Sawtooth Wilderness areas. Covid put a halt on business for a few years but we are making some gradual upgrades and changes to offer camping and horseback riding experiences again. The lake is 220 acres known to Anglers near and far. Plenty of room for the sunseekers wanting to play in the water on paddle boards, kayaks, jet skis, and water skiing. An 18-hole Golf Course resides at the North end of the lake and white water rafting just a few miles down the hill on the Methow River. We will offer guided horseback rides by the hour on site for the season 2024. Must book in advance. Free Wifi available near the office only.

We have a small area, but most of it is shaded and right by the river. Learn more about this land: Come camp near the river at a fully-functional whitewater river rafting basecamp!! Our group-style camping area is great for small groups of people or small, two-somes too. We have a total of 4 spots,; 1 is suitable for 2 large, or 3 small tents, 2 are suitable for 2-averags-sized tents, and one is a small tent spot only.  Camp spots are next to each other, so not alot of "Wild forest-camping" here.  We refer to it as urban camping. Please be aware that there is some traffic noise here, as we are close to Highway 2.   Weekend camping is limited, and you may hear the occasional train whistle. WiFi and fire pit included as well as on-site port-a-potties.  There is a large communal firepit, but no individual camp firepits, with the option of bringing a propane stand-alone firepit.  Small fires only in June, fire ban starting July 1st due to wildfire concerns.  No smoking and children are OK as long as they are kept under control.  In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, we are spacing camps out more, we have a foot-operated handwash station, and 2 hand sanitizing stations.  Per the CDC, we are unable to offer any potable water to anyone this year.  Our camping area is somewhat small, does NOT have grass, but area has bark.  Please be ready to be respectful of our neighbors and other campers by keeping your music to a low-to-medium volume.  Please bring photo ID and a credit card to complete our camper registration form with.  In addition, we are a river rafting company, so we may not have anyone present when you show up - don't worry, we are probably on the river and will be back soon!  *** Please message before booking to insure we are a good match***

Henderson Homestead

We do not take late comers as we are a farm and are early to bed and early to rise. I'm sorry! We are the third generation in this location and the great grandparents had the adjoining property. My father was born and died in this house, and I was raised here also. After teaching for 32 years my husband and I inherited the farm from my folks who have since passed. There are no orchards left on the property but we are moving on with a vegetable and flower garden, goats, chickens and a llama. We have a gorgeous view of Lake Chelan but can only offer dry camping at this time. Our area has a multitude of things to do!

The best camping near Lake Chelan State Park guide

Overview

About

Straddling the southern banks of Lake Chelan, Lake Chelan State Park attracts campers, anglers, and water sport enthusiasts with its lakefront location and easy access to hiking. The Lake Chelan Campground has 139 campsites, including 18 partial hookup sites and 17 full hookup sites, along with restrooms and hot showers. It's a popular spot, especially among Washington families who have been coming here for generations, so it's wise to arrive early. Other park features include 495 feet of dock and a single launch, plus a couple of miles of hiking trails, horseshoe pits, a playground, and a shop offering non-motorized water sport rentals.

Tips for snagging a campsite

  • You can reserve campsites through the Washington State Parks online reservation system or over the phone, but phone reservations incur an additional fee.
  • Reservations can be made up to nine months in advance, and new sites go live at 7 am Pacific time each day.
  • You can split your stay across two campsites without having to pay double reservation fees. However, this can only be done over the phone.
  • The campground is open from March through November, but sites are only reservable between mid-April and the end of September. Camping at all other times is available on a first-come, first-served basis.

When to go

The best time to camp in Lake Chelan State Park is in July or August, when the weather is at its warmest and driest, but the campground consistently fills up this time of year, even on weekdays. For fewer crowds, consider visiting in September, before temperatures drop and the long rainy season begins. March through May and October through November attract fewer crowds, but the weather during these shoulder seasons can be unpredictable.

Know before you go

  • You can pick up camping supplies, groceries, firewood, and ice, as well as coffee and sandwiches at the on-site cafe, Paninis in the Park, open seasonally until Labor Day.
  • Gas, groceries, and other supplies are easily available in the town of Chelan, about 15 minutes by car from the park, on the southeastern end of the lake.
  • You can rent kayaks, stand-up paddleboards, and hydro bikes from Barefoot Water Sports right in the park.
  • The park offers ADA-accessible camping, picnic areas, restrooms, and 0.2 miles of wheelchair-friendly hiking trails.
  • Fishing is allowed in the park, but a license from the Department of Fish and Wildlife is required.
