Thousand Peaks Ranch Campground in Hartsel has Scenic Mountains, is a getaway and a home away from home for many users. The campsites are best suited for tents and RV stops. We are very close to many places where you can find a river to fish, take a walk in nature or take a quick dip in the cold waters. Thousand Peaks Ranch Primitive Campground is a 40-acre site each with a table, fire pit and grill. There is a fee for its use and the stay limit is three weeks. We have well water to supply your shower and are located close to the center of the camp. Thousand Peaks Ranch offers a group campsite with 8 separate group campsites. These sites vary in size: Group sites 1, 2, and 7 ($40/ night) can accommodate between 10 and 25 people per site. Group sites 3-6 ($80/night) can accommodate between 25 and 50 people per site. Group Site 8 ($120/night) accommodates up to 75 people. Each site is equipped with 1 or 2 picnic tables and a Fire Pit. The property is partially wooded, and there is a spectacular view from the top of a prominent hill on the property which is some of the highest ground for miles in all directions. On site picnic tables (the tan colored bench can fold into a table) and a porta-potty are provided. The campsite is equipped with a unique dual purpose wood/propane fire ring - bring your own propane to enjoy campfires while burn bans are in effect. Great hiking opportunities may be found right on the property, and numerous nearby seldom used dirt roads provide exceptional mountain biking opportunities. Close to recreational opportunities in Buena Vista and Salida, as well as Antero, Eleven Mile, and Spinney Mountain Reservoirs. A level site with great access, and can accommodate large RV's and campers. And keep your eyes out - you might just see some Pronghorn passing through the property! Directions from the town of Hartsel: Proceed 2 miles South on State Hwy 9. Turn right (South) on CR 53. Stay right at the fork at 1.3 miles. At 3.9 miles, turn left (East) onto lightly used Shawnee Trail (Note: On occasion due to County grading on CR 53, there will be a small mound to drive over as you enter this left turn). Proceed about one-quarter mile (and past the the POSTED NO TRESPASSING sign just inside the property entrance) to the campsite a bit further on the left.

Once a gargantuan ranch, this section of South Park has been subdivided into residential and recreational lots so more of us can enjoy the local beauty, and remains sparsely populated. Learn more about this land Enjoy exclusive use of this six-acre spread which features trees, rock outcroppings, and absurd mountain views. Remote yet accessible by county road, the property is a few miles from Hartsel, where you'll find a general store and saloon, and the other historic railroad settlements of Park County. (Learn about the South Park National Heritage Area at southparkheritage.org.) New for 2026: a tent pad for a level night's sleep! Otherwise the property is gently sloped and has wooded areas for exploring. All supplies (including water) must be packed in, and all waste packed out. I stashed a collapsible picnic table behind the big rock and you're welcome to use that, please just fold it and stash it again. There are no structures at all on the property. Per Hipcamp and local zoning, you may not relieve yourself outdoors; you must be in a vehicle or privacy tent. There is a fire ring. If you intend to make a camp fire, YOU MUST LET ME KNOW so I can call the Hartsel Fire Department. They will then tell me if there's a burn ban in place and I will relay that info to you. This must be done no later than 24 hours before you plan to burn. Hipcamp will sometimes turn on my fire ban based on data from the National Weather Service. The only way to know the full situation is for me to call Hartsel FD. If you see some expensively outfitted motorcyclists cruise by, they're from the Rawhyde Training Camp up the road so give them a wave!

Great place to camp with our travel trailer! Full hook ups with great views and a bunch of farm animals to watch and enjoy. Belinda and Todd’s place is close to town and has its own great vibe. Belinda and Todd were great hosts. Thank you! Hope to see you again soon!

Unfortunately I wasn't able to make my reservation. And I completely messed up on how many days I wanted it for as well. I didn't expect to receive any money back but Belinda went out of her way to get me a partial refund. I will be definitely looking into staying there when I'm going to that area again.

Great spot for RV camping! We had a riverfront space and it didn’t feel cramped at all! The campground was well kept and the owners were very welcoming! Highly recommend and would come again!

Weekend Trip to Mesa Campground

This is a cute older camping site that would be great for a few days to stay at. It's starting to show it's age, but they still keep everything clean. Bathrooms feature clean toilets, sinks, and showers. The camp host and other employees are very nice and helpful, and that is always a plus. My only issue is that there are a handful of RVs that are being stored and it sort of takes away from the wilderness feeling by being a bit of an eyesore. Overall, I would recommend if you happen to be traveling through or want to spend a weekend in Gunnison.

Just as described and the directions were spot on! Quiet, so peaceful, great play to throw ball for the dog, nice view of the mountains. Felt like we had the plains to ourselves.

Weekend Trip to Oasis RV Resort

Oasis was a great spot to camp in our travel trailer. We had a great view of Blue Mesa Reservoir and it is relatively close to Black Canyon. The hosts had a great Memorial day with a cook out on Friday and pancake breakfast on Saturday. OMG the huckleberry pancake yum! We would stay here again.

Wasn't 100% certain I was in the right place, but I think I figured it out. Was the only one out there -- very peaceful and quiet. Views were cool, but mountains were a bit off in the distance. Lots of cows and a Pronghorn which was cool!

Weekend Trip to Salida RV Resort

Salida RV is such a gem. We love this place so much, we're coming back for a month (or more) in the summer. We stayed in a spot right on the river, and it was so peaceful listening to the sound of the Arkansas River. The sites and clubhouse are super clean, and the park was very quiet.
