Close enough yet far enough for a first-time camping experience. About an hour drive or train ride from Manhattan. 1.3 Miles from Appalachian trail crossing. Chestnut landing is ground camping for now. The site can be accommodated with tents and cooking utensils for additional fees if needed, as well as lessons on camp site prep and safety guidelines. Highland Gateway Park allows year-round hiking and horseback riding, but no motorized vehicles, there are trails, ponds, and springs to discover as well as an abundance of wildlife . Chestnuts Landing is a site located on the 24-acre property very private, but it is located closer to the somewhat busy at times Route 9. You can hear the road noise , so if absolute one with nature is your thing, I would suggest booking the Phoenix Landing site. Also, the terrain at Chestnuts Landing is slightly pitched and not as level as the Phoenix site. The area down below the site where you pull in and park is quite level. I will be working on some platform construction and some land leveling throughout this season to try to better situate the site. I tried my best to show the actual site in pictures. Feel free to ask if you're unsure. Thank you.
