Absolutely drop-dead gorgeous property. Being almost completely silent, even from bugs and birds, it was the perfect getaway of solitude I envisioned when I booked a birthday trip for my dog.
However, instructions indicate to meet the host for check in. Not only was it a total ghost town, with nobody around to meet me when we arrived, but the little to nothing in terms of signage had me scrolling back through screenshots Id shared with friends of the listing just to be sure I had landed at the correct site. I also tried contacting the host several times about a week before arrival about adding an order for fresh eggs to my booking, and was completely ignored. Hosts had even driven by on their ATV the first night without stopping or offering to rectify it.

We had a great time at Vida Bonita. Warm but cooled off at night, amazing views, beautiful river, privacy! We were hosted by Luna the entire weekend and she kept guard at our campsite through the night! Luna deserves a raise! Duc was a helpful host and super friendly!

Tent camping on Duc’s property was wonderful! It was a short hike down to the river and VERY secluded. The closest town was Las Vegas, about 1 hour and 15 minutes away from the cite. There was no WiFi connection from where we were, so a great place to come if you’re wanting to unplug from reality. Would 10/10 recommend!!

Wow! Vida Bonita Ranch is just spectacular and we had so much fun camping there over the 4th of July. It’s really secluded and way out there which brings so many benefits like dark skies (I saw the Milky Way for the first time since I was a kid!!), lots of wildlife (we saw fox, elk, deer, cool beetles, a crazy orange snake, and heard a bullfrog at night), and a total sense of peacefulness. Duc was an awesome host, too. I would definitely like to come back!

Had a great time camping here over Memorial Day weekend. Super private camping spots with amazing views, and the dogs loved the river! Duc is a great host that is happy to help and point you in the right direction to any of the areas on the property.

What an adventure. First time hip-camping experience and it was overall a great time. Our tent site was next to the river bluff; prepare to hike a good 15 minutes one way for river access, which is steep and has loose rocks, but my 8 year old managed no problem, some people were driving 4 wheelers up and down. The river is pretty high still, not really that accessible for swimming. The tent site itself was nice, there was plenty of shade and firewood, mid-day heat even in May is no joke - prepare to do something in the shade at least part of the day. I am glad we brought our lil beach wind shelter, the first evening the wind was so I intense, I don’t think cooking would have been possible without it. I’m also glad that we brought plenty of our own water because we forgot to ask about the potable/non-potable water access when we got there. Towards the end, some kids showed us how to use the pump. My daughter spent most of her time obsessed with the batch of 3 week old Great Pyrenees puppies. The kids camping had so much to do between checking up on chickens, dogs, and sheepies. Next time, I’d pick a less “busy” weekend, there were a lot of people around, which we were told ahead of time would be the case. The people were all really friendly, but I just had more of a remote experience in my mind. What I love about camping is going with the flow, there are always unpredictable factors and that’s part of it! I would recommend preparing for the elements and you’ll love it.

If you’re looking to breathe in the clean fresh quiet and exhale all the noise, then this is the place to do it. 1600 acres of all of nature’s best: the rhythm of the river, the vastness of the black night sky, it is all here. Duc Bernard and Norm are all available to ensure a supported but free to roam experience. YOLO: eat the fresh chicken eggs!

This property is amazing! Duc was a great host even though we never saw him he was very accomodating and even arranged for a guide to lead us from the hwy to the spot. We sustained incredible winds while there so we left a little early but the weather in April is always a gamble. We would love to go back in the summer some time! Such a mystical spot, with amazing views and absolutley no one atound but Ducs very friendly dogs!

A beautiful and remote space to explore, Vida Bonita is my new favorite place to camp. My wife and I (plus dog Lou) stayed one weekend and I was back for a solo trip 2 weeks later. You can fish, hike, or just hang out at your site or down at the ranch. If you like 4-wheeling, try getting up the mesa! Amazing views are everywhere, especially from Bluff Site 1. I've camped 100 spots all over NM and this one is top 5 easy. Say hi to Bear and Luna, 2 of the best dogs I've ever met. They keep an eye on things. Ranchland in NM is almost all private and access to this place feels exclusive. Duc and his family have created something special and you need to check this out.

Duc and his wife were amazing hosts! Duc had our tent set up when we got there, and Erica the next day showed us all the animals they have on their land! Bailey the pig, Luna and Bear were our absolute favorites! This a very remote area but absolutely worth visiting! We would definitely stay again and would 100% recommend!

This was such an amazing experience to camp here! We visited on Labor Day Weekend but it was still so peaceful and private. Duc was very helpful and nice. So much to see and enjoy on the property. We are thankful that we got the opportunity to explore this piece of heaven.

Before you camp here, ask the owner to tell you how much water is actually in the river. One of the main selling points for us was that we were camping on a river, as the photos suggest. We were so excited. Unfortunately, what we found were mud puddles. Given the distance that we travelled, it would have been the right thing to do for the owner to be more forthcoming.

Site bluff 1 was right by river access. Not a lot of trees but we had a shade structure. We were also close to the bunkhouse and the restroom. Also the dogs were friendly.

I’d recommend vida Bonita to my hiker camper buddies. They like off grid beautiful areas like Vida Bonita. I’d tell recommend suv or truck as the road in the camp can be rough. The area around the river is gorgeous and the campsite had picnic table and a couple of trees. We also took a shade structure.

We enjoyed our weekend camping trip. We did a little bit of hiking and some fishing but especially loved the beautiful scenery and remote location. My favorite part of camping is definitely the slow brisk mornings when there's nothing to do but enjoy your coffee as you feel the first rays of sunlight kiss your skin. We will definitely keep Vida Bonita on our our keeper's list.

Beautiful property…Duc is a very gracious host. This is the place you want to be during a zombie apocalypse! The road to get out there is very long and would not recommend without a 4x4 with good tires!

Duc has a beautiful property ! Bluff site he set us up with great and overlooked a nice portion of the whole area . River was an east drive down to valley and followed by a short walk down hill walk . I camped with wife and 4 yr old with a trailer and 2 dogs . Duc was super responsive and helpful, couldn’t ask more from a host . Word of caution it’s a long road into the property and road is rough with sharp rocks. I actually got a slow leak in a tire , but that’s probably more to do with my added trailer weight and speed . Take it slow like Duc recommends

We enjoyed camping on Duc's land. lovely views and sunsets. Free range animals. Especially enjoyed visits from Bear (Duc's dog). Didn't have time to enjoy the water.

Camp on 1670 Acre Vida Bonita Ranch
Wow! There are not enough positive words I can use to describe this place. From the natural beauty at Vida Bonita to Duc’s warm hospitality to the great companionship of his ranch dog’s Bear and Luna, it’s an experience like no other. The views are absolutely breathtaking! From the sunrise to sunsets, from every angle of this ranch you will discover new paths with views from cliffs for miles. When you overlook the river, it’s serine and so peaceful. My family thoroughly enjoyed spending the day swimming and fishing along the river, watching the dogs jump and play in the water. It’s so peaceful and quiet being out there alone watching nature just do it’s thing.
Duc has carved out a little slice of Heaven out on his ranch. With his set up of farm animals, fresh filtered water, a little bathhouse you can clean up at after you get back from playing at the river. He has beautifully carved out campsites with fire pits ready to go. His place is much better than any state campground. He offers jeep tours of his property which is a must! His land is vast with so much to see and he is extremely knowledgeable and just a really great guy!
Driving to his place, you dive down a gravel road for a long time, but you see lots of deer and cattle which make it entertaining. You will lose cell service so be prepared. Definitely check Duc’s place out! We are already planning our trip back in the fall! This is a must see place!
