Rainforest Haven is located in Fern Forest, a rural neighborhood, on three verdant acres of a rainforest with ōhiʻa lehua trees, tree ferns, banana plants, and fruit trees at 2100 feet. This is a peaceful place to relax and recuperate from the din of city life. There are no street lights, just the stars and moon after sunset. On a clear night, the sky is full of stars. The yurt has its own bathroom with a shower, flushing toilet and vanity sink, as does the cabin. There is a large communal kitchen (16' x 16' kitchen cabin) that is currently being renovated with butcher block counters, cabinets, and flooring, an additional outdoor shower and a washing machine that guests can use free of charge. There is an outdoor lounge area complete with a six-person picnic table, BBQ, four hammocks, and torches. The owners live on the premises in their own cabin. The homestead is run by 6,000 watt solar-power and a rain-catchment system with a 4,500 gallon water tank. Volcano National Park is only 15 minutes away; Punaluʻu black sand beach is 30 minutes; Ka Lae (South Point) is about 1.5 hours; and Hoʻokena Bay is about two hours. We are closest to Hilo (45 minutes). Kona is a 2.5 hour drive.

This beautiful and spacious yurt is in a rainforest on a solar-powered homestead in Fern Forest, a rural neighborhood. The three-acre property is hidden from the road by 50 feet of forest on three sides and 100 feet on the fourth side. The yurt is 706 square feet—30 feet in diameter with a 7-foot tall wall and a 17-foot ceiling peak with a skylight. The yurt has two high-quality full-size futon couch beds from Japan and two full-size futon beds from Walmart (each futon sleeps two people and bedding is provided), a bathroom with a shower, a flushing toilet, and a vanity sink. There is also an outdoor shower with hot water, a washing machine, high-speed wifi, and a fully-equipped communal 16' by 16' kitchen cabin. Coffee, tea, spices, and cooking oils are complementary. There is a communal area with four hammocks, and a picnic table (for six people) and BBQ grill beneath a large open-air tent. Bring flip-flops. Shoes are not allowed indoors as per Hawaiian culture (owners are Hawaiian). Use flip-flops to go to-and-fro the yurt and kitchen. The owners live on site. Please note that we no longer have chickens and ducks. All duvets and blankets are washed after use and throw pillows undergo either washing or steaming to ensure they are ready for the next guests. There are beach-related amenities, such as coolers, bodyboards, and floaties.

The rainforest cabin is built on the top of a shipping container. It has a private porch that offers a beautiful view of the property. Guests have access to a communal kitchen cabin and communal picnic area. The kitchen is well equipped: stove, oven, two refrigerators, knives, cutlery, cutting boards, and kitchen aids (hand mixer, stand mixer, immersion blender, blender, juicer, food processor, coffee machine, coffee bean grinder, rice cooker, etc.). Coffee, tea, spices, and cooking oils are complementary. All duvets and blankets are washed after use and throw pillows undergo either washing or steaming to ensure they are ready for the next guests. There are also beach-related amenities, such as coolers, bodyboards, and floaties. Shampoo, conditioner, and bodywash are also supplied.

Rainforest Cabin
What a gorgeous place! We had a 4 night stay here, which was absolutely wonderful. We initially booked the cabin, but Marie upgraded us to the yurt which was super cozy! The kitchen was really well stocked, the location was great for exploring nearby Volcanoes National Park, and it was amazing hearing so many birds in the forest at night. Our only regret is that we didn’t book for longer!

Rainforest Haven Yurt
We had a really lovely stay in Alohalani's yurt! We had 3 adults and a baby and we had more than enough room. The futons were comfortable and there was cozy bedding. Having a bathroom in the yurt was nice. The outdoor shower had hot water, and the communal kitchen was well stocked. Alohalani was an incredible host. She was so kind and fun to talk to. She was responsive and really accommodating to any needs we had. We all said we would stay there again!

Alohalani was an amazing host. She had everything clean and beds set up for us even though we got in super late. The yurt was bigger then we expected and fit our family of 5 perfectly. Her land and set up was super cute, peaceful and we loved feeding all the ducks and chickens. 10/10 would recommend and book with her again!

My stay at this Hip Camp in Hawaii was nothing short of magical. From the moment I arrived, I was enveloped in the genuine Aloha spirit that defines the island experience. Alohalani was ncredibly welcoming, treating me like ohana (family) from the get-go. Her warmth and hospitality were evident in every interaction, making me feel right at home. The campsite itself was a tropical haven, perfectly blending comfort with nature. Surrounded by lush greenery and vibrant flowers, it offered a serene escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. A complete blend of rustic charm and island country living. If you’re looking for an authentic Hawaiian experience steeped in genuine kindness and natural beauty, this Hip Camp is an absolute gem. I left with a heart full of gratitude and memories of true Aloha that I’ll cherish forever. Highly recommend!

Staying at the Rainforest Cabin was an amazing experience! It's a lovely place, full of amenities, and just about everything is complimentary (shampoo, spices, etc.). We have traveled extensively and have never seen such an excellent communal kitchen in the past. There is more stuff than we have at home, and everything is of high quality! The beds are very comfortable and we could hear numerous birds all night. Alohalani graciously offered us to use the yurt and its facilities (toilet, dining table, sofas) as there were no guests when we were staying in the cabin. It is very inexpensive for everything that's offered and the place is always spotless. The best part of the experience were the numerous discussions about Hawaiian culture with Alohani. That's what made the Rainforest Cabin a special place in our heart and a place we will recommend to all our friends. Mahalo Alohalani and you're more than welcome to stay at our place if you come to Ottawa one day. Merci beaucoup.

My friends and I LOVED staying at Alohalani’s yurt! She was so sweet and generous and the land was very nice. I would highly recommend it! The bathroom and shower were both very nice and the kitchen was fully stocked with all the supplies you would need.

Rainforest Haven Yurt
It was a wonderful experience for all of us. We had four kids with us and they loved this place so much so they didn’t want to leave. This is exactly what we were looking for. We could fully immerse into the nature and forget our fast-paced live in Los Angeles. It was so much fun for kids - they were running around with chickens and ducks. They were playing games outside which is very important for kids their age. The host is amazing person. She organized the place so well and everything was there for our needs. Our family likes camping and we do go camping often, but this place is above and beyond. Thank you Alohalani for hosting us! We will come back one day.

What an amazing experience at Marie's place! The yurt is huge, loads of space for a family of 4 and the ensuite bathroom a definite bonus! It was cozy at night, amazing sounds of the forest - the beds comfortable and everything inside the yurt was really clean and well maintained. The grounds itself are a delight, all lush and green and the free range chickens and ducks very social to have around. The separate kitchen area was immaculate and extremely well equipped for all meals we needed to prepare, including refrigerator space, utensils, crockery, stove etc. The welcome pack was really helpful for things we needed and reliable WiFi an unexpected advantage! Great location with most attractions (volcano national park, Hilo, beaches etc) within a short drive. This has been one of the highlights of our Hawaiian holiday and would highly recommend to others. Thank you Marie for your hospitality.

We booked a tent site for one night. Unfortunately we never received any map or directions to the place we would stay so we drove around on gravel roads for 30 min without success. The adress was not up-to- date on hipcamp and the owner was ad the time overseas (so we couldn't even call due to time shift). At the end we left without staying and had to struggle to find a plan B camping. Which we found in the national park for less money. Not a good experience. A simple map or screenshot in hipcamp of the location would help. At least we got the money back.

I had such a wonderful experience! The property is so adorable with the little ducks and chickens. And the yurt is awesome. My favorite part was swinging in the hammok in the sun. Although I didn’t get to meet Marie she was kind enough to let me cook with whatever food was in the kitchen and is overall a very generous person. Highly recommend

Marie was an amazing, insightful and thoughtful host. The yurt was spacious and homey. The kitchen was clean, well equipped and charming. Follow her directions to get there. It's definitely off the beaten path but about 30 minutes from many beautiful sights. You'll feel like you're sleeping in a sound machine that's set to rain forest mode.

It was wonderful meeting Alohalani. She is such a warm and wise soul and holds treasures of precious cultural knowledge… We connected from the start and I was able to learn Ti leaf lei making with her while we talked story….The location is beautiful and well kept, which demonstrates her pride of the sacred ‘Āina (land). The yurt, communal kitchen and environment were extremely clean and has what you need to have a comfortable and quiet stay. Upscale glamping at its finest. It was also fun to have some feathered friends always around (ducks, chickens, and a rooster)..Loved my stay and I’ll definitely be back! Mahalo nui Alohalani.

Marie has a very nice property. It is very new and clean. She was very welcoming and accommodated all of my needs. This is just what I was looking for and the bed was very comfortable. I would be happy to stay again.

We had a wonderful time staying at the rainforest yurt, the place was well kept and clean. All the beds were comfortable and welcoming and all amenities mentioned were provided. Marie was super welcoming and gave us local recommendations as well as offering for us to be able to store our stuff if we needed during the day we left. The frog noises/other rainforest noises made falling asleep at night magical. Overall a wonderful experience and I would recommend it to anyone interested!

Alohalani was a treat to sit and talk with. The accommodation was huge with an indoor bathroom. The kitchen was well appointed and the location offered the sounds of nature in its rural settling.

Marie was incredibly warm and welcoming and we loved our stay at her property. The yurt was clean and comfortable. The outdoor kitchen was convenient, bright, and airy. We adored bring serenaded by the frogs at night. We'd love to come again for a longer stay.

Alohalani’s lush property sits about 45 minutes away from Hilo, in the beautiful backroads less than 15 minutes from an entrance to the Volcano Nat’l Park. The area is huge and has an incredible set up complete with fully functional kitchen. The bathroom and shower set ups were rudimentary but completely doable. At the time of posting the mosquitos were minimal and we slept without precautions and had no issues. Alohalani was extremely kind and helpful, and I look forward to coming back!!

This is such a wonderful place to stay. The property has been thoughtfully landscaped, and the yurt is spacious and beautifully maintained. A great place to relax after exploring the park. Marie is a fantastic story-teller, with much knowledge to share about Hawaiian deities and culture. A true treasure.

Absolutely fantastic place to stay, I will remember it as a personal heaven. There is everything you might need (kitchen well equipped, possibility of a warm shower). Marie is very nice and willing to share her experience and knowledge about Hawai'i.

Marie's Yurt is a wonderful place to camp for a few days when exploring the south side of the island. Close to the National Park and black sand beaches and not far from the waterfalls in Hilo. We slept 4 very easily and enjoyed the comfort of the large space. The kitchen house is very well equipped, no gear needed

We really enjoyed our stay at the yurt. The yurt is very spacious and clean and you here the sounds of the rainforest. Alohani was a great host and we loved listening to her stories☺️, you can book it extra which we would recommend. The kitchen is very clean and well organized. The toilet is a bucket with a seat as described in the info. We would really recommend this place to anyone who enjoys nature☺️

We loved staying in the yurt. It’s spacious and cozy. The hostess was excellent! Super generous and accommodating and knowledgeable about Hawaiian culture. She taught us how to make Ti leaf lei and we really enjoyed it and very excited to bring them home. Best souvenir ever. Beautiful and peaceful country setting away from the city and close to the volcano. Really nice shared kitchen with lots of supplies as well. Would highly recommend staying here with Alohalani.
