The horses are so wonderful. We loved the converted horse trailer, the eggs were delicious, and Victor and Mary provided plenty of firewood for our two night stay. Beautiful, quiet site; rustic accommodations were just as described, and nearby trails and a lovely pizza place down the road (as recommended by Victor) made this the perfect peaceful camping getaway. Do stay here. You won’t regret it.

This was a wonderful site! We were close enough to the house, but also far away enough that it felt like we were all on our own. Mary was a gracious and attentive host, and so were the two resident horses, Cha Cha and Girasol. Our favorite moment was hanging out with the campsite's trusty friend, Marley the dog, while we roasted steak on the grill. Thank you, Mary, Marley, and everyone for a great stay!

Unique experience in horse trailer
It was such a fun experience to stay in a horse trailer! There were two beds - one double bed on top and a queen bed on a loft. When we went, there were two tent campers nearby, but we felt far enough away from them and couldn't hear them. Victor was super friendly and told us the stories of the two horses, then introduced us to the chickens. It was a unique experience that I'd definitely recommend! We opted for the firewood and fresh eggs add-ons, which I'd definitely do again. They provide pillows and blankets, but you bring your own sheets or sleeping bags. Although there is a plug, we brought our external chargers to plug into. We went in October - it can get chilly, so I'd recommend a few layers. Also, be sure to screenshot the directions in advance. Although I had good cell service at the site, I lost it here and there on the drive in. If you need groceries or other supplies, I'd recommend getting them before your drive since we didn't see stories super close by. I would definitely recommend this as fun alternative to tent camping!

Cold weather camping with our dog
We had a fantastic weekend with Mary and Victor. They have an awesome property with lots of room to make camp and still feel like you have your own private area. We bought delicious eggs and a couple bundles of firewood that lasted us the two nights we stayed. Mary and Victor were great with our pup, we were able to let her roam free in the back camping area. We enjoyed interacting with the horses as well. We’ll definitely be back again!

My 6 year old LOVED it!
Mary met us upon arrival. She was very in touch with communication. The horse trailer was a great fit for my dad and my son plus I. If you want privacy you can get it here. Victor was great with Mary bringing wood. Be prepared to buy wood there. The wood they have it great compared to the one at gas stations or some stores. Totally worth it. Great place for cooking and having a toasty fire. Great running water nearby. My 6 year old LOVED it! The outdoor shower is alright. Would like a little more privacy with the shower.

Camping w/ Horses & Chickens!
Super special place to camp in South Central Connecticut. Mary and Victor were wonderfully welcoming on their land, we tent camped, and they have other accommodations. Getting in time with their horses and chickens was a huge part of the draw, and really added to the whole experience. Such a gift to reconnect there with a dear friend from grad school and her son. Very family-friendly, and Mary and Victor couldn't have been kinder.

Cozy horse trailer
The horse trailer was quaint and comfortable. I felt very safe (solo female camper) and slept great at Mary and Victor’s land. It was quiet and peaceful, even with many other campers nearby. Victor kindly met me at the street upon my arrival and quickly showed me everything I needed to know. Pack a warm sleeping bag if it’s chilly out and bring a headlamp/flashlights.

Pleasant little camping land. You get plenty of privacy and farm camping, and our hosts were extra considerate to accommodate us when we might have been rained out, one night. The converted trailer is a very pleasant stay! :)

Camping with Horses!!!
We loved camping here! Maria and Victor were so gracious to us and provided us wood, an ax and extra rope for our hammock; and even though we arrived much later in the evening than anticipated they still greeted us and even prepared a homemade map of their property for us! We spent so much time playing with their horses and they even let us feed them carrots! Our stay was so peaceful and quiet and exactly what we needed and we enjoyed getting to know our hosts! We will be back as soon as we can!

Unique and relaxing farm stay
I had such an amazing time at Mary and Victor's. It was incredible waking up to the horses only feet away and to the sound of the roosters. It was so relaxing and quiet and I enjoyed cooking over the fire and hanging out in the tiny house. I will be back and would recommend to others!

Private campsite w/ friendly hosts!
Mary and victors site was perfect for the secluded weekend camping trip we were looking for. After a quick tour of the farm Friday evening from Mary we settled in and enjoyed a nice quiet night. The firewood and kindling was already provided at the site for easy access and the fire pit was large enough to cook on. The camping essentials provided included cooking grates, a large picnic table, two fire pits, outhouse and even a converted trailer with a bed in it. We brought our own tent and had plenty of flat ground and mature trees to hang hammocks up. There was an additional site in between the hosts house and our site with an additional trailer and separate bunk house, if you have a larger party this would be a great additional sleeping space. The Outdoor shower was outside Mary and victors house, not the most private but was an awesome plus after exploring and swimming in the nearby state parks all day. Can’t recommend this stay enough!!!

Laid-back woodsy farm experience
Our kids had the time of their lives. Staying on Victor and Mary's property was like staying with cool, laid-back relatives you never knew you had. We got in a great hike on the Salmon River and swam at Chatfield Hollow. Two nights barely made a dent in all the gorgeous state forests, falls, and swimming holes close by. I would characterize the vibe of the site as very low-fuss, ideal for free spirits with a sense of adventure. For a longer stay, I might have brought mosquito nets for the converted shed, at least with our kids, who leave doors open all the time! On our stay, the trailer shower/sink water had a sulfur smell, so I would plan to use the excellent hose water and maybe a big Rubbermaid tote for washing up in the future. The land is spacious and bordered on all sides with woods. Though it's listed as suburban and it's only 15 minutes to the nearest town center, it felt absolutely rural and peaceful. We saw fireflies, owls, songbirds, hawks, bats, chipmunks, and bunnies. Not to mention sweet Cha Cha and Girasol, who we hated to leave, and all the beautiful healthy chickens raising their own chicks in natural bliss! I could happily wake up every morning and have my coffee in those quiet pastures.

Camping with the Horses
Mary and Victor's spot was really unique. Tucked away behind their house is hidden farm with chickens, horses and their dog Marley. You're also surrounded by nature and feel close to other wildlife. Cool how they have several option of where to sleep on their property - between a tiny cabin, an RV trailer, a converted horse trailer, and tent camping. Outhouse and outdoor kitchen area added a rustic touch. But...best part was the horses. With your permission, hosts will leave the gate open and the horses will just wander into your area and walk up to you - so special!

I'm sad to say that the weather did NOT cooperate and we had to completely bail on this reservation. I really wish we had been able to stay though, it looks great and the hosts were really thoughtful throughout our "maybe check in a day late... Weather better or worse tomorrow" back and forth. Honestly it probably would have been a great place to wait out a rainy trip if we hadnt been also arriving in the terrible weather.

We were greeted by the house dog Marley, and Victor met us at the fence. Our two dogs loved playing with Marley running around the large property, and were amazed by the chickens and horses. All of the animals are friendly and the horse came right up to me to say hello! Victor gave us a tour of the property: the grazing fields, the second camping area for tents, charcoal grill, the marshes and the outhouse. The hosts are very welcoming and accommodating, and even offer supplies when booking (ice, wood, eggs, etc.)

Amazingly simple yet complex!
As we pulled up the the gate, we were greeted by a very enthusiastic Marley, barking, jumping and tail wagging. Victor met us at the fence just as Mary came walking down from the farther fields. We were given a tour of the horse trailer bathroom, our campsite, the grazing fields, the second camping area for tents on site with the second horse trailer including a (hand-made by Victor) queen size bed frame, brick charcoal grill, the marshes beyond the last field, and finally, the outhouse. (I clocked the walk from the cabin to the outhouse as a two minute stroll.) The cabin is truly tiny, but just enough room for myself and my 13 year old son and our essentials. My son loved the bunk bed, and I opened the couch so it was flat to use as a bed. It’s a bit worn, and the metal between the two sides dug into my back, so I took the cushions off the two benches (located with the table under the bunk bed) and used them as part of my bed. We ate outside at the tables and chairs provided, and kept our supplies on the table inside, so the cushions weren’t missed. We purchased a block of ice (a Tupperware bowl of frozen water which lasted us all 3 days!) but still had to purchase bags of ice at the nearby gas station every day. We also purchased firewood which we had a hard time burning as it was damp, but there is no shortage of kindling and larger sticks to be found on the property if you don’t mind foraging. There was also a large amount of fallen birch trees, and the bark of the birch, even when wet, can be used as an excellent fire-starter. We also found some small downed trees, which Victor was happy to cut for us; however, my son preferred to do it himself, so Victor lent us several axes. We cooked all of our meals at the campfire at the cabin, using some tools left behind my previous campers and those supplied by Mary and Victor. We spent most of our time on the grounds, soaking in the quiet (besides the occasional car driving by with loud music, a bit of noise from the neighbor doing some upkeep on his house, and the distant sound of music Victor plays while he works). At night, we were charmed by the sounds of crickets and owls, and the stars glimmered above. Besides the back porch lights of Mary and Victor’s house and the porch lights of the houses to each side of the property through the trees, there was barely any light pollution when we turned off the cabin lights. Make sure to bring several lanterns; I would suggest headlamps as well - something we will bring next time! Our first night we met Girasol and Cha-Cha, the farm horses. HOW SWEET! The two became a fixture of our stay there and would happily or passively accept patting and occasionally cleaning leaves out of their manes. The next night my son tried to use a Jiffy-Pop, but it exploded and left corn everywhere to the delight of the rooster, hens and chicks the next day. What a trip it was to be reading by the campfire area surrounded by chickens! Either Mary or Victor were usually there to answer questions, or help out in any way. We had many a great conversation, and could not ask for better hosts!

Wonderful
Mary and Victor couldn’t have been more welcoming, kind, or generous. My girlfriend and I came for a night and had a wonderful time. We spent time with the two horses, their dog, and a scattering of chickens in between our trips to local restaurants, art galleries, and farmers market. I highly recommend staying at least one night with these lovely people. However, they gave us complete space and privacy unless we asked otherwise, so it’s a win-win regardless of what you’re looking for.

What a treat! There’s electricity, clean water, a converted horse trailer AND wifi/cell service, yet you feel like you’re in the middle of a woodland paradise far away from it all. There’s even a shower at the main house that Victor and Mary allow you to use. From the minute you drive up, Victor is there to help you however he can. I have never felt so welcome and cannot wait to return!! Also, the animals are friendly and happy. What a great site.
