When I arrived there was no one around. I had messaged earlier in the day exactly when I would arrive. I expected a 30amp site, but it was 50 amp only. And the water for this site was not working. In fact it was covered up and the whole area around the electrical post was flooded.
I texted several times to ask what to do and didn't receive an answer. After 15 minutes I finally got a response saying the host wouldn't be back for 2 hours and that he had an adapter.
I booked another Hipcamp. And when I asked for a refund I was refused. I paid over $200 for an unusable site. This host is only out for money. Beware

Larry and his wife are great hosts. We stayed in site 1 and were the only campers on site. The sites are relatively close together so if the campground is full, privacy would be limited. Beautiful land and a unique set up. We will return.
I loved the cabin and the hospitality of the host was amazing!! Plus a great fishing hole.

Apple Hill Tent Sites
There were two ponds near the campgrounds to fish in. He had several areas you could walk through. My daughter loved the pigs. It was about 2 miles from a swimming area on Blackwater River and 7 miles from Conecah Forest. The owner was extremely sweet, and his pups were amazing. We are definitely planning to go back again.
You can't beat this place for the price! The campground has a toilet, shower, electric hookups, water. All for a great price. There is not a lot of privacy between sites, but if you are the only one there (like I was) then you have the place to yourself. There is a fishing pond next to the campground as a bonus. Note: bug spray is a necessity.
Marie and Larry are kind, generous, and the real thing: Alabama homesteaders for generations. They decided to share their beautiful property with folks who are looking for peace and quiet, not frills and frippery.
I walked the land every morning I was there after drinking my coffee serenaded by hundreds of bird. We enjoyed a bout of "severe weather" one evening, with thunderstorms and lightening and heavy rains pounding my little trailer.
Larry and I had the chance to chat numerous times and I learned fascinating things about him and the history of the area. He and Marie even invited me in for a shrimp boil and catfish dinner. Now that's great hospitality.
I stayed in site one, electric no sewer. But I think it's the best spot anyway since you can see the ponds and woods.
I highly recommend Apple Hill and if I lived closer, I'd be back in a heartbeat.
Most definitely rustic and cozy. My father and I stayed for the weekend to do some fishing, which was very nice. The ponds are much lower than the pictures showed, mainly due to it being a rough drought year, but we still caught a few catfish a piece. Several fish still swimming around in there if you have the proper gigs. Larry is quite the host! He invited us to his family fish fry and offered to clean and cook the catfish for us. WHAT A COOK! Fantastic fish fry! He made hushpuppies, sweet potato fries, and coleslaw as well. So generous! Now, the cabin is rustic and creaky no doubt, but it's cozy. The upstairs feels a little dangerous, like it might fall through almost, so be careful with jumping around up there. Also, if you're a builder, plumber, or electrician...it might be a nightmare. My dad was scared there would be an electrical fire in the night or that the floor would give way. Other than that it has all the cooking and kitchen essentials like forks, spoons, knives, plates, bowls, cups, coffee cups, pots with lids, frying pans, a cookie sheet pan, loaf pan, Pyrex dishes for oven, tupperware containers for storing, strainer, spatulas, ladle for serving and stirring, meat tenderizer, etc. Wood was cut in a big stack at the front of the cabin and there was an axe just in case. There is a little charcoal grill in the front and a small fire pit with two chairs. The land is lovely and well managed. A swinging bench facing the pond was extremely peaceful in the morning.

We had a wonderful time at Apple Hill! Larry and his lovely wife made us feel right at home. Larry, an avid fisherman, even cooked us a yummy fish fry dinner our first night there. The campsites are fully equipped, level and well maintained. It is a serene and restful place and only a little less than an hour from the action of the Gulf beaches! You could spend an entire season here!!!
Such a wonderful place for a private getaway. Larry and his wife are very kind and know how to host a fish fry! Highly recommend
Apple Hill was the prefect getaway for my little family. We have privacy, a fishing pond, curious trails and little hidden places to have fun. The host was friendly and invited us to a 5 star homemade, fresh caught fish fry. It was the perfect experience. Highly recommend.
We were the only tenters there. They provide wood for free, which is awesome. There’s a building that has a shower, toilet, and washer and dryer, and there’s also electric and water plug-ins at each site.
Briefly looked at one of the cabins, and it was pretty cute too. Seems like it would be a cute little place to take a small family or just go as a couple.
The water at the pond was low this time, and it was raining our whole time there, but the children almost immediately caught a couple of 19-20 inch catfish.
The owner has two very cute medium size dogs that wander around and are very well behaved and don’t jump on the children. My toddler had a ton of fun with Bear especially.

Expect rustic! The hosts are wonderful. The area is peaceful
My family of 7 had a great weekend staying at Apple Hill's cabin. We were so snug and comfortable, and enjoyed fishing until pitch black and then again first thing in the morning. Mr Larry and Ms Marie were wonderful hosts, and they even invited us to come over for a fish fry dinner, which was delicious! It was so wonderful to connect with them and hear their stories of growing up on this land and making a living in this part of the country. He showed us his gun collection and we talked about farming and hunting and all the things. Mr Larry even showed us how to get to a beautiful sandy bottomed creek nearby, which was so fun for our children to play in. Thank you for a wonderful stay!
Second tine going here, what a gem!! Peaceful and quiet, the host is very nice and invited us to a fish fry, we couldnt make it butnthe offer was nice. Cabin is cozy and has been well decorated. Ya really feel like your in an old wild west cabin. Wonderful place to visit.

The experience was amazing with Larry. He has beautiful cabins and land where you just feel free and you can disconnect. Larry has the best fishing ponds for the whole family. Optional you can deep fry your fish right after with larry and its the best southern dish. Overall i had a wonderful 3 day weekend trip..

This place is not private at all. It is right next to another cabin and there is a dog that lives in the other cabin that will start barking at you the moment you step out onto your porch.
I booked the cabin the day of my arrival. Larry was not aware that I was even coming until the next day. Therefore, the place was not cleaned upon my arrival. I was totally understanding of this considering the circumstances. However, I was there for three nights and nobody came to clean after my arrival so I'm just going to lay out what bothered me. There were two huge dead roaches on the floor to start, mouse poop in the shower and other places, a big dead cricket in the kitchen sink, a quilt balled up on the second floor bed, used bar of soap in the shower. It was just not prepared for any guests whatsoever let alone someone paying money to stay. It cost me 125-150 per night which is not cheap. The cabin itself is charming, but I definitely did not feel comfortable and would never stay here again.

This place is great. Quiet and out of the way 3rd trip there with friends. No cell no internet is great
The camps are so cute. The fishing is outstanding. There is no internet and no cell service . But I knew that before we went to camp. It is beyond worth not having internet for a few days .
Larry was an amazing host and the tent site was so peaceful. Great place for star gazing. The farm is beautiful with ponds and tons to explore. He offers hot showers which are always nice when camping and use of a washer and dryer to do laundry! He gave us some jambalaya which was delicious! Thank you so much Larry we had an amazing time!

Very secluded barley phone service which we loved 😍 enjoyed they stay and the land is beautiful we fished the ponds caught bass brim crappie and tilapia. Our dogs were in heaven. Mr. Larry was a very nice host. The cabin was quaint and cozy.

We loved it so much there that we paid for another night to stay a little longer..had a lot of fun fishing and building campfires..it was old and rustic like we like and Larry and his whole family were very sweet and welcoming..had a fish fry and invited us to church with them..and it was sooo quiet and relaxing and the scenery was beautiful..will definitely go again..real soon we hope!!!
