A much needed getaway

The unwind I needed

I can’t say enough positive things about the experience of staying on Dustin‘s land. The campsite we stayed in was isolated enough to make you feel like you were by yourself. The common facilities that Dustin shared with his guests made the trip really worthwhile. He has a 2 mile hiking trail on the property that’ll provide you with solitude and a good exercise opportunity. The creek offered a good cold plunge for after the hike. Dustin is a very gracious host. I can’t wait to return.

We had an amazing time camping here! It was a wonderful and new experience for both of us — being without clothes truly helped us connect with nature in a beautiful way. Dustin was so kind and welcoming the entire time, and everyone there made us feel like part of a big family. We will definitely be coming back!

A great weekend! Don't wait to go!

Parksland Retreat was so great again. The hot tub was amazingly done and nice for my first time. It was a great start to the weekend to get to know everyone and set the vibes for the rest of the time. And I cannot stress how great the sauna is. It eased my stressed muscles from the days trail hiking and swimming. If you're hesitating to go because its clothing optional, dont. It's so welcoming and the friendliest campsite in Alabama. You'll only regret why you didn't go sooner. Make sure not to bring to many items if you're camping at the two creekside locations. I learned the hard way and I don't want you to end up like me. Protip: keep your cooler at your car and have a secondary cooler to take down to your campsite.

P5 BYO Tent Platform & Fire Ring

This was the perfect trip to the most beautiful well kept space! Dustin was very friendly and made us feel very welcome. I definitely would like to come back. This is a beautiful property with beautiful views, swimming and friendly people. When camping a P2 pack as light as possible. It is a steep and far trip if you are having a lot of heavy things. We packed food, equipment for 9 people and a glamping tent. Wouldn’t do that again! We are very out of shape too though! Out of all the campsites we saw I did like ours the best. It was close to potable water and a compost toilet. We enjoyed being further away from the other campsites and had privacy.

I had to leave due to an emergency with work .I was there maybe an hour. I had hoped the staff would have been understanding and either refunded me a portion back or offered for me to come back again. Great place and would love to return but unfortunately work cut my trip very short.

Not for Everyone

I stayed a long weekend at site P3. It was about as far away from everyone and everything as you can get. Reminded me of backpacking on the AT. Steep hill down to site. My whole trip I literally saw next to no one. I was greeted by the owner but I can’t tell you much from that 2-minute meeting. The rest of the time I was on my own. I didn’t mind being completely alone but wouldn’t have minded a more communal atmosphere. I think the site had a lot to do with it. I can’t say much about the actual retreat itself as I spent no time there. I was just outside the gate and nearly 1K feet away and steeply down the mountain. It’s definitely not an experience for everyone but was a good time to connect and be alone, just me and my dog.

I always look forward to my Parksland trips! This was the first time I did yurt camping and the bed was so comfy! They were hosting a Fall Equinox Celebration, so there were plenty of fun activities included like morning yoga, a bonfire, a sauna session, and a cacao drink ceremony by the fire. The shower was so relaxing! Tip: Just remember, if you haul something down the hill, you have to haul it back up.

Fall Equinox Celebration

This was our third time staying at Parksland, and our first time at P3. P3 is very secluded, but it is a bit of a hike. If you travel light and don't mind a long journey downhill and then uphill on the way back, you will do fine. We definitely got a lot of exercise. We stayed for two nights, and were able to get our stuff to/from in two trips. It is very quiet and peaceful. We were able to see a lot of butterflies!

This was one of the best camping trips! Truly the quietest site we’ve stayed in. No generators, no loud music, no tvs, or doors slamming. Just the forest sounds. Was also our first public clothing optional spot, and it was great on that front. The place and everyone is just so laid back it made it such an easy and fun time. As an avid at home naturist for years, it was nice to get to go a whole camp trip sans clothing. If you stay in P3, pack light. Everyone says that, we did pack light, and we still decided we would go even lighter next time. Ideally you should be able to carry your things in bags in 2-3 trips. Anything bigger starts getting heavy by the time you get to the site. This is a great thought, because once you’re there, you’d never even know other campers were there. Right on the creek, and we loved going down and dipping/wading. The hiking trail is nice. Take a stick (or pick one up along the way). It doesn’t get a ton of daily traffic, so the spiders have plenty of time to build webs across the trail. There were a few places with trees down, but we could easily get around. And I think they’ve done maintenance on it since we were there. All in, this was one of our favorite camping trips, and we can’t wait to get back. We will be back many more times!

Just the kind of chill weekend I was looking for. Definitely be prepared to see the nude human form and to climb lots of hills. Just the fact that I could show up and not have to set up my own tent and it had a simple but comfortable bed was super nice. Also met a lot of nice folks some of whom are regular guests. I will be making a trip back next time I need to recharge.

I have stayed at Parksland before. This was my first time staying in the cabin. Everyone is very friendly and welcoming. The cabin was cozy, although we spent most of our time at the camp center listening to music and enjoying the sauna. The trail from the parking spot to the cabin is relatively short, so it doesn't take you long to get your stuff there. Everyone, from the host to the other guests, was very friendly. We packed our own battery-operated fans, which is something I'd recommend during the warmer months. The cabin to the swimming hole has very direct access as well. You'll enjoy any of the sites on the land, but if you need something enclosed, the cabin works for that. Very welcoming location all around. Anyone who doesn't emphasize love and respect likely wouldn't be allowed back by the host.

I had an amazing experience at this retreat! The host was so kind and considerate. The group was pleasant to get to know and I felt very comfortable. I would highly recommend for a getaway from busy life, and I’ll definitely be back!

This was my fourth trip to Parksland - wonderful as always - but first trip on a busy weekend and first chance to try out the sauna, which was amazing! Everyone was respectful and friendly, and campsites are far enough apart that even when it’s packed your campsite can feel totally private most of the time. It’s be said dozens of times, but the hill from campsites to parking is a pretty serious climb, so try and limit the number of trips to your car you need to make. Will definitely be back soon.

Parksland has been the best camping experience my partner and I have ever had. This place is so obviously a continuous labor of love, everyone is so kind and welcoming and friendly. It's clean and well kept, the showers and sauna were AMAZING!! There's a beautiful well kept swimming hole a short walk from the platform sites that's lovely for a cool dip on a hot day. Dustin is super accommodating and there's a friendly communal hangout vibe all over. Don't skip out on this place, it's worth every penny. We look forward to many more visits in the future.

Coffee in a stream? Heck yeah.

As always, Dusty and Parkslands Retreat are a delight. There’s nothing like having coffee sitting in a stream and enjoying nature. We were surprised to have an opportunity to be a part of a cacao ceremony and breathwork class around a fire with an awesome group of people. Every time we visit, our cortisol drops by 1000%. I couldn’t recommend the campsite or Dusty more highly.
