Camping near Butler

Butler, a quaint town in southwestern Alabama, offers access to serene parks and lush forests that are full of camping areas. Bladon Springs State Park was once a bustling 19th-century spa resort. It’s now a peaceful pet-friendly camping spot with tent and RV sites next to four mineral hot springs and picnic areas under ancient oaks. While here, check out the Choctaw National Wildlife Refuge, or take a pair of binoculars along Alabama's Black Belt Birding Trail. Head an hour out of town for waterfront camping at Okatibbee Lake, where you can set up at a well-appointed campsite equipped with full hookups. Reserve a waterfront campsite ahead of time—there’s only one available. Anglers love long days here casting lines for crappie and bass, usually while the rest of the group tries canoeing and waterskiing. For more primitive camping, visit Conecuh National Forest. Take the Conecuh Trail through diverse ecosystems, from pine forests to cypress swamps, to secluded tent sites with flush toilets. There’s also an RV campground with electrical and water hookups.
