Sparrow Bend River Retreat

Me and my fiancée needed a get away and we had a good time the first time so we came back a second time and it was still very nice. Tried a different camp site and we definitely have favorites lol. Definitely coming back for the cold season!

Perfect!

It was our first time camping and we loved every bit of it. The campground we got was real close to the river and just a walk away from the restroom and showers. The view was amazing and space was more than abundant. Wish it wasn’t cloudy so we could of seen the starry night sky and the sunrise, but other than that I would recommend this place to anybody who wants to escape the city life and relax with nature. We will definitely be going back once the cool weather starts so our kids can enjoy it!

Not as close to the river as I thought…and not very private at all..You would definitely have to book Slots 1 and 2 for more privacy which is what I did. If you are into tent camping then I would definitely recommend the tent spots..Preferably tent site #3. Other than that we made the best of it and had a blast on the river.

Riverfront 2

We had an amazing camping experience! Our boys and pupper had so much fun swimming, playing and star gazing. Our camp site had plenty of shade to stay cool during the summer heat. Angela is very responsive and gave clear instructions. Cherry on top was the front row seats to the fireworks show the neighbors put on for the 4th of July!

Perfect 4th of July Getaway

We had an awesome 4th of July weekend at Sparrow Bend River Retreat! The property is beautiful, peaceful, and exactly what we were looking for. One of the biggest highlights was the restroom and shower facilities. The showers were excellent, and having clean, air-conditioned restrooms was a huge bonus after spending the day outside. Those little comforts really made the trip even better. Our dog, Onyx, absolutely loved it. He had a blast exploring the property and cooling off in the river. The only thing to keep in mind is that the river was a little low during our visit, so floating wasn't really an option. That's obviously dependent on water levels and not something the hosts can control. If you're booking Campsite 3, definitely bring a canopy or some type of shade. It's the closest site to the river, which is fantastic, but it has very little natural shade during the day. Overall, we had a wonderful stay and would absolutely come back. The property is well maintained, the hosts have thought of the important amenities, and it made for a memorable holiday weekend. Highly recommend for anyone looking to relax by the Medina River!

My wife and I celebrated her bday here. We stayed in RV Slot 1 but also booked RV Slot 2 for more privacy after reading reviews. Glad we did because they are a little close together. Slot 1 is a little further from the house that is also a rental property. However the tent sites (Site 3 in particular) are all pretty private and have a much better view of the river. We would definitely book again just would get a tent site the next time. Overall we enjoyed our stay. The river is beautiful and the views are amazing..

We were super excited for our trip here as we have been eyeing this spot for months maybe even a year. We booked River camping site 3. When we pulled up we were immediately disappointed and just thrown off. There was a truck parked on a huge part of our spot. And there was SO MUCH trash left from the previous campers. Spent time picking up cigarettes and beer cans that were not ours. Fire pit was full of boxes and trash as well. The grass was extremely high in our spot. I get it, it’s camping. But if i had someone who paid to come stay at my place I would be sure to check before they get there that everything is cleaned and nicely prepared for them. Especially since we paid for early arrival. We had two small dogs who we kept on leash the whole time. And there were others who had HUGE dogs off leash. At least three. There were three different extremely loud speakers with three different sets of music playing at once. For three other groups of guests. All right next to each other. I didn’t want to leave a bad review. But when you’re someone who respects rules and we literally prepared for everything. No one else followed the rules that are reiterated several times beforehand. If the site was clean and mowed. And the other guests followed rules. This would’ve been a ten out of ten experience. Sadly. This was such a let down. -main thing we expected were what the reviews said was bad and that was the dogs barking at night , which we heard none. Only positive.

Kids' new favorite campground

Forest 1

When we arrived, we realized Forest 1 was too small for our 10-person tent. We called, and they moved us right away to beach 4. We were closer to the river. Everything was really clean and well-maintained. We were in the river from 10 AM until 5:30 PM, minus restroom breaks. The kids had a blast stargazing and at the campfire. We look forward to coming back at some point. As a family with four small children, we found it really comforting to see other families enjoying the spaces as well. When we got back home, we were informed that it was the best camping trip of their lives and asked when we could go back.

RV Camping!

We really enjoyed our time here! The location was a little difficult to get to with a large RV (narrow residential roads/low trees, etc) but once we actually got settled, the time was well spent. The area was perfect for us and two dogs. It would be a little too close if you had to camp next to people you do not know at slot2, but we booked with our RV friends so it was a perfect set up to visit and relax outside amongst each other. The property and water was BEAUTIFUL! All of the other guests were very friendly and there was a good amount of space between everyone.

Our absolute favorite camping spot. The friendly owners are always happy to help, quick to communicate and are always working to bring new experience's to the property to improve our stay. The pickleball courts are such a great addition! We can’t wait to come again.

My boyfriend and I had such a wonderful weekend getaway for my birthday at the river retreat! The scamp was just right and was so enjoyable sleeping a rainy night in and was cooled down after being in the sun all day. I’m a chronic overpacker, but I didn’t need to as Angela had everything we needed available. Nice privacy, good views, and overall great time.

This is my second trip out to SB and we’ve loved it each time. We’ve tried two of the river spots and both sites were wonderful. The bathrooms were cool and clean. Always stocked. The sites are always tidy and so convenient having a dumpster and firewood on site. We can’t wait to come back.

I really enjoyed my camp adventure here. The river was stunning and the campgrounds were well kept and equipped. It was peaceful and chill. Forest spot 2 was secluded but close enough to walk to the restroom and not very far from the river. All the other camper neighbors were friendly and good vibes. I will definitely be back!!

Great place for a less-crowded camping/glamping experience. Bathrooms were really clean. Sadly no stickers at the little cabinet store when I checked, but I will be back and hopefully can grab one then. The river was very nice as well. I booked RV site 2 and the walk was maybe 3ish minutes? No biggie. Would definitely reccomend.

Great place!

This is my third time here at Sparrow Bend Retreat. Really love camping here - we came here with a group of friends and their kids and pets. We did campsite 1 and 3. The toilets and shower are in great condition and clean. The only consideration is the hot water. It is nice and hot but sometimes it does run out. The space is spacious and quiet. I would recommend this place in a heart beat.

Campsite 4 was wonderful

Went for a solo trip and tent camping at site 4 was perfect. Lots of shade which is important because sun really bears down at height of day. Bring pop up or umbrellas if you want to hang right on the river. Site 4 is tucked back and there is room for a hammock. The water is maybe a little over 4 ft at deepest along the river nearest the campsites. Lots of shallow walk in areas for the littler ones. Full of beautiful native Texas plants and critters. This place is a real gem! Will be back.

We had an amazing stay at the campsite! We stayed at Forest 2 site. We ended up taking our paddle board out on the river in the evening to enjoy the water. Would absolutely stay here again :)

My kids and I had a great time camping at Sparrow Bend River Retreat! We enjoyed the privacy, swimming in the river, and skipping rocks! The owner was very kind when I ran into an issue at the end of our stay. I most definitely recommend this place, and I will come back again!

Wonderful camping spot!

We really enjoyed this site! Had an RV spot with plenty of room to ourself - didn't feel too close to anyone, although at first when pulling in we thought we were close to the other RV and in the "backyard" of one of the cabin/houses, but it didn't end up feeling like that and still felt fairly private. Having electric and a water spout was nice (although the spout was just a few inches sticking out vertically from the ground, as it's intended for an RV hookup hose), room for our pop-up camper (don't actually have an RV) plus we set up a 10x10' canopy (although there were plenty of trees in the area), and it was just a few strides to the firepit. Our site was just a couple minutes walk to the water, too. The water was so clear and cool! Not sure about the depth everywhere, but where we went was anywhere from shin to thigh deep. Some areas might have gotten a little bit deeper. We did some fishing, as well. We'd definitely recommend! Thank you, Angela, for the hospitality.

Anniversary weekend .

39 ft travel trailer ·

I just went to sparrow bend and we were in slot 2 . We have a 39ft trailer and the hook ups are the opposite side of the trailer and with the truck and trailer there is no way to do a pull through. So we backed in and had to run our septic hose uphill due to the way the terrain is in that spot. Well uphill is not what you want for a sewer hose. For the cost of a rv spot I would suggest maybe putting a slab down since there are only 2 rv spots. Now for you tent campers super cool areas down near the water. Very pretty clear water . There was no one there to speak with so you have to do so by text or email which if you have a situation you would really like to have someone to speak with . I called and no answer then after a couple of text I finally got a response but still did not help the issue .
