We had an amazing first camping trip of the season at Tilden Hill! Ken was friendly and welcoming, the bathrooms are clean and updated, the trails are beautiful for walking and biking. It will not be our last trip. Thanks again Ken!

Tilden Farm is beautifully set up! The tent sites are nicely spread out and set up above the creek well away from the RV sites. Ken was easily accessible via phone on arrival and came by to check on our stay as we were packing up. Due to the ongoing rain throughout the week and muddy conditions, we ended up having to stay at site #3 instead of the pond. We were sad to not have our original pick but appreciated Ken being thoughtful of the conditions. We'd happily return next time we are looking to camp in the area.

Ken’s place is fantastic! The tent site was private and spacious even with others camping nearby. The bathrooms were impressively clean and offered showers with hot water! It was pretty muddy while we were there but we definitely want to check out more of the trails next time. Also if you’re a meat eater I highly recommend grabbing a steak or some burgers from the farm store for dinner.

Nice location - if you love trains you will be delighted. Honestly, they come by quite often but they do not blow their whistles hardly at all so it’s not that loud. I can definitely sleep through them. Since it rained every day I ended up sleeping in my van. There is a place to hike along the river along the closed portion of River Rd. It’s also close to the Erie Canal Lock 17 and the historic ruins of an older lock.

This was our second stay at Tilden Hill Farm and I can't say a bad thing. We absolutely love it there. It's very peaceful, has beautiful views, and friendly staff. My son and his girlfriend had a great time fishing, they each got 3. The bike and hiking trails are groomed nicely. Depending on your site the cows will come watch you in the morning. I can't say enough good things. Tilden Hill Farms has a lot to offer check them out

Adirondack Waterfall Oasis

With cobblestone mill ruins, a 200 year old cemetery at the property entrance and a large dam at the top of some of New York's most beautiful waterfalls, this is the former site of one of the Georgia Pacific's many logging mills dating back to the early 1800's and a part of Adirondack history. Surrounded by bedrock, huge boulders, massive pine trees and miles and miles of trails, the Fowlerville Falls offer days of exploration and/or relaxation. There is a large swimming hole at the top of the falls, just off of the South-facing bedrock bank, where you can swim or lay in the sun. The falls, themselves, are almost 500 ft. across (at the widest point) and approximately 150 ft. in length (from top to bottom), ascending at approximately a 40-45 degree angle, making them navigable by foot. In the drier months (and, of course, depending on rain fall), most of the falls are dry, with only 50 - 100 ft. of water flow, making them navigable by foot. There are many little pools and flowing water across the bedrock to explore, along with the rest of the river, the surrounding woods and adjacent miles and miles of atv/hiking trails. If you are kayaker, there river above the falls is calm and fairly shallow, ranging from .5 - several feet in depth. And if you are white water enthusiast, Fowlerville Falls (and the Moose River) is a nationally rated and renowned spot, boasting a class III-IV under normal release conditions, and a dangerous, cold class V under spring runoff conditions. Please feel free to reach out with any questions. Learn more about this land: A raw, pine forest lining the bedrock banks of Port Leyden's Fowlerville Falls, just inside of the Adirondack park. The former site of one of Georgia Pacific's old logging mills, the property has private access to beautiful water falls, a large swimming hole just off of a large, South-facing rock bank, untamed, clean pine forests, ATV and hiking trails, trout & small mouth bass fishing, many fire pits and areas to camp throughout the property.

I am Karl and with my wife Danielle together we own 10 acres of peacefully settled forest on the edge of over 10,000 acres of State Forest land. It is on a seasonal road. I have no registered address, but a small sign marks my access road as Jacob Lane. This is a tribute to my friends. The Amish that helped me build our off-grid cabin. It is very quiet here. My closest neighbor about a half mile away and I kind of like it that way. There are seasonal roads here that allow four wheelers that behave themselves to buzz by from time to time. The forest rangers and DEC officers that patrol here keep a tight rein on the forest and its preservation. We have one guest cabin and several places a tent or RV can park. There are no hookups. Water is a precious commodity here. We capture rainwater and filter what we drink and cook with. Please bring some potable water. We do have spring water available but it's a drive. We are currently working on a well so this may not be a permanent condition. I first came here about 15 years ago. I would like to try and see if others would enjoy what we have made our lives. Be alone or follow me on my daily adventures. I do like to talk and although I don't lie, stretching the truth is an artform I have perfected so be prepared. There is a state-run beach and picnic area about 3 minute drive away on the Hinkley Reservoir. We are about 15 to 20 minutes away from the Herkimer Diamond Mines. You can bike, hike, nature watch or just enjoy the peacefulness of the tree you chose to sit against. Down and ready firewood is everywhere if you want to bend over and pick it up. You can possess firearms on the property, but you may not discharge one without prior approval unless it's to save your life or that of another. There are places not far away that you can legally shoot and enjoy yourself. There are traditional outhouses on the property and for those that know how cat holing is allowed. Ask if unsure. No dumping tanks or portable toilets anywhere and that includes the outhouses. The state of New York has facilities at campgrounds that do a proper job with that type of waste. We back our 35' coach in the driveway with no issue. Currently there is only a 120v/ 15amp outlet alongside the driveway, and access to a garden hose off the back of the cabin. There is no septic hookup. Tent camping can be done anywhere on the property as there is a nice field on either side of the road with many options.

Overview

Known as “Adirondack Base Camp,” the New York hamlet of Old Forge is the perfect place to set off on adventures around the Central Adirondack region and Adirondack Park. The town boasts easy access to outdoor activities, from skiing and stand-up paddleboarding to hiking to the summit of Bald Mountain and biking or skiing on McCauley Mountain. Ha-De-Ron-Dah Wilderness

Just west of Old Forge, the Ha-De-Ron-Dah Wilderness is perfect for those seeking solitude in a beautiful, wild setting. The area has 35 miles of marked trails as well as five lakes and 16 ponds for fishing. It’s also home to wildlife including moose, black bears, and bald eagles. Just 10 minutes south of Old Forge, Nicks Lake Campground has 112 sites for campers and tents.

Black River Wild Forest

The sprawling Black River Wild Forest offers an array of recreational activities, from hiking some of its 90 miles of trails to paddling, fishing, and snowmobiling on its lakes. Nicks Lake Campground is at the northern end of the forest.

Long Lake

Appropriately named for the expansive lake that flows through it, Long Lake is a quiet and pristine corner of the Adirondacks. Naturally, boating and fishing are top activities but in the winter you can also go snowmobiling and both downhill and cross-country skiing. Around 15 minutes southwest of town, Forked Lake Campground has 80 sites.

West Canada Lake Wilderness

Around 70 miles southeast of Old Forge, West Canada Lake Wilderness is the second largest wilderness area in the Adirondack Forest Preserve. Hiking trails vary in levels of difficulty and maintenance and lead through some of the more remote areas in the Adirondack Park. Backcountry camping is allowed and there are 16 lean-tos and 28 primitive tent sites located along the Northville-Placid Trail and connecting trails.

The long, sunny days of spring and summer are ideal for enjoying the trails and water activities on offer, making these the most popular seasons to visit Old Forge and the Adirondacks generally. However, the peak summer season can bring crowds and booked-up campsites, so try to make reservations far in advance. September and October can also get busy with visitors arriving to see the vibrant colors of fall foliage while winters are relatively crowd-free and offer skiing and snowshoeing.
