Visit the site ranked by Hipcampers as one of the top three sites in West Virginia. Pitch your tent on a wooded mountain knoll overlooking the Cacapon River surrounded by the Allegheny Mountains as far as you can see. The Cacapon River is a hidden scenic gem and the cleanest river in West Virginia. This is rugged West Virginia at its best. Wildlife abounds and it is common to see Bald Eagles, Black Bears, and Whitetail Deer.
If relaxing on the ridge line and enjoying the views are not enough, hike down to the river via the powerline cut or trails and swim, paddle, or fish (WV license required...one day passes are available online). You can also hike the creek running through the deep hollow, which follows the state access road while enjoying dark Hemlock woods and shale cliffs. If you like to mountain bike, you will find the mountain access roads and trails offer you some back country riding fun.
The campsite has nice level areas for pitching a tent and an established fire ring and picnic table. Trails allow one to hike in or drive (a four wheel drive is necessary to access the ridge line campsite). The campsite is very private, but it's possible you will see a friendly neighbor pass by on the trail or see folks staying at the cabin in the valley along the river flats if you go down to the river or you can get a bird's eye view of cabins in the valley across the river from the top. The campsite is no trace so you must bag out all garbage and waste. Cat holes and such are not permitted so campers must bring and use a camp toilet. During exceptionally dry periods, open fire restrictions may be put in effect.
You will need a four wheel drive vehicle to access the site. If not, or in inclement weather (snow or heavy rains), you can hike in from the state road where the access road begins.

The property's history dates back to pre-European settlement and was originally inhabited by Native Americans with archaeological evidence dating back at least 10,000 years. After European settlement, numerous
of battles were fought in the area during the French and Indian War, American Revolution, and it was even a cross-roads for armies during the Civil War. Farming, sustenance farming, and logging were the primary industries throughout the region. Later, during the Industrial Revolution, the river, limestone, charcoal, and iron ore from the area fueled a local iron bloomery, which the area, "Bloomery," is still named.
The land you are camping on was nearly completely logged over the last hundred years, but a few old growth trees can still be found throughout the mixed hardwoods forest. On the way to the campsite you will also pass the old original school house (now a hunting cabin) located on a neighbor's adjoining property. There are still a few old timers left that attended the one room schoolhouse as children, but the building predates them by many years. There is also an old Methodist Cemetery located on the property (not near the campsite) that dates back to the 1700s. If you happen to find this site, please do not disturb it.

The Byrd's Nest is a river front, primitive campsite on the scenic Cacapon River in Great Cacapon, WV. The property is very secluded, but only 2 hrs from D. C. and Baltimore. The space can accommodate 5 tents comfortably or a few small campers (w/o hookups). Please note- I only book one group at a time. You'll have plenty of privacy! Spend your day bird watching on the river deck, put up your hammock and chill, go hiking or mountain biking at Cacapon State Park, take the kayaks out and paddle around, go fishing, or take a float trip. I can provide info on put in/take out spots depending on how long you'd like to float. I have 3 kayaks available for your use, or BYO if you'd like to venture further outside of the property lines. There is one big fire ring for cooking and/or bonfires, along with a large stationary stand up charcoal camp grill. There is also a small communal shed down at camp that contains extra camping supplies, etc.. feel free to use use and put back and or/ contribute to it! :)
This spot is close by to Berkeley Springs, Paw Paw Tunnel, Cacapon State Park, and other nature preserves. More hiking, biking, restaurants, spas, antiquing- all within a beautiful 20 minute drive if you wish to venture out.
There is a cabin on the property. I will more often be home than not, I will communicate with you about that around your stay. Sometimes I"ll come down to the river frontage if I drop in for a float .Also, we all get around on four wheelers and UTV's. So you will hear them from time to time. If I am home, please feel free to come up if you have any concerns/questions or to say hi! :)
*Please note, you can normally get to this site without a 4 wheel drive vehicle. However, when the river is high it will sometimes flood the low water bridge where it crosses the Cacapon. If this is the case during your stay, I will provide all necessary information regarding projected river levels and directions. I will also offer a full refund if the bridge is impassable.

Welcome to Mountain View Mini Farm!! Almost Heaven West Virginia. Where we have a few animals on the property and do some homesteading. On the property we also have a Ice-Cream Shack that is open to the public. Hours for the Ice-Cream Shack varies. We are close to Historic Berkeley Springs and love sharing this piece of heaven with people like yourself. If you do not like the big camp grounds and just want a nice spot with a view to pitch a tent, or set up your camper, then you found it . A little about Mountain View Mini Farm. We are just minitues outside of Historic Berkeley Springs WV and 15 minutes from Cacapon State Park. You will have Great Views of the stars from your site. The sites are not far from our barn, and we will leave one tractor bay open for you, just in case it was to rain and you want to use it as shelter. The sites are not perfect level so you will have to level your camper a little. You will have your own fire ring and picnic table, also you will have access to fresh water. You will need a good size water hose if your going to hook up water to your camper from site 1. We have electric hookups that are 20amp Only. There is a clean outhouse but no shower at this time. We are working on making a shower. There is plenty of room for outdoor yard games. You will hear a little road noise and we do have neighbors. You will see me and my family out working around and feeding animals at times. The hosts house is not to far from the campsites. This is just a peaceful piece of property on a mini farm to get away and relax and explore Berkeley Springs WV. We are also only 15 minutes to Cacapon River for Kayaking and Swimming. We are also only 15 minutes to the C&O canal for hiking and biking. We do sell firewood for $7.00 that's around 13 pieces of wood. There is cornhole by the ice-cream shack that you are welcome to play. There will be more things added to the property in the near future. So come on out to the mountains and be our guest.

- One kayak and one canoe are available for rent, however trasportation is not provided at this time. Contact your hosts for details.
- A picnic table, fire pit, and port-a-john are available at the campsite for your use.
-Please note, the campsite is located off a dirt road. Four wheel drive is recommended but not required.
- Hunting is prohibited at the campsite and the surrounding 10 acres, however hunters may be present in other areas of the mountain during the fall. Always be aware of your surroundings.
- Wifi is not available, however there is adequate cell phone reception for all common carriers.
-As always, leave no trace. A dumpster is available along the road for disposing of your trash as you leave.

Brand new custom high end "glamping" cabin nestled along the Cacapon River. Cacapon River is one of the cleanest rivers in West Virginia. The name Cacapon was given by the native americans for the healing aspects of the water. The cabin is located on the famous Riverdale Farm property that was home of Captain David Pugh. Captain Pugh was the last person to sign succession papers to make West Virginia a state. As we say, " West Virginia started here". Experience the vibrant wildlife that inhabits our surroundings, from daily sightings of deer and squirrels to nightly visits from barred owls and bats. Keep an eye out for occasional appearances by turkey, sapsuckers, woodpeckers, porcupines, raccoons, foxes, and coyotes, with the possibility of encountering a black bear annually and even a rare sighting of a mountain lion. It's time to try to find out how nice it is to camp at your own campsite amidst 6 wooded acres alongside Bear Creek, with Bear Stream running through the middle of it. Quiet and private, with paths and trails on the property. Dry firewood is provided there at the campsite. There is a charcoal grill ready to use, though you must bring your own charcoal. A small RV onsite provides a bathroom and shelter, but camping by the creek, listening to the water running is the way to do it. The site is also very private and naturist ready, and a perfect place for your dogs or your children to run free, so it's time to get back to nature. Since guests have the whole site, they can decide whether it's clothing optional or not. With the new boat launch site near Capon Bridge, on the Cacapon river nearby, and a few more upriver towards Wardensville, it's a great site for kayakers or canudists to plan river outings and stay nearby. There are multiple places to set up tents, or hammocks, either at the main campfire ring, or at several sites away from the main campsite. Throughout spring, rear wheel drive is recommended, and 4 wheel drive might be needed, and during the summer if heavy rain is expected. I would not recommend front wheel drive cars being used there in the spring, unless it is dry out. The RV is limited to two adults, and two to three children, for sleeping, due to it's size. Heading west, is the Canaan Valley and Davis and Thomas, WV. Both towns have many things worth visiting and are close together, and Winchester is 30 minutes away for supplies.

Staying here was my first Hipcamp experience, and it certainly won't be my last! I went with a group of 6 with varying levels of comfort with the outdoors/camping, and all were happy! This site checked our main requirement, access to warm shower/flushable toilet, and had bonuses of a pavilion, nearby river, electricity in the bathroom, and a camp store. It was comforting to know that if we forgot anything or just didn't feel like cooking at the site, we could pop by the camp store.
Andrey was kind. He popped by to greet us and give us tips on the area. He even let us put the kayak in off an unused site. There was a short stretch of calm water downstream from the campsite that made for a relaxing paddle/float after a long weekend of camping.
Favs:
- The sound of the next door rapids at the South campsite was a constant, peaceful white noise that everyone agreed helped them get great sleep and made everything extra relaxing. It was so nice we didn't even want music.
- the bathhouse - as clean as a campsite bathhouse could be! Showers were hot - super welcome after 30-40 degree nights.
Notes:
- Service was definitely spotty for all, which we had been warned about, so we made do with getting wifi occasionally from the camp store and having some group walkie-talkies. Not a big deal!
- There is a rooster on the property that loves to be heard lol. Consider bringing earplugs for sensitive sleepers.

We loved our stay! It was nice and secluded. We loved cooking on the campfire grill/tripod. The electric blanket worked great on the cold nights. Pablo and Lorena were quick to respond with any questions or issues. They respected our privacy. We would definitely stay here again.

I was looking to camp originally in or near a state park by Bedford. While the campsites I found were adequate with decent amenities, I was stunned by the photos of the Tall Oaks site. I booked and paid for two days to meet the minimum booking period, but could only stay for one. Mason was very patient and a great host. He met us at the entrance of the campsite and lead us to our area with a brief explanation of everything. The house rules were clear and did not make us feel restrained. The campsite had a great view and no one else around that day. The firewood burned easily. I heard a cascade of animal sounds I hadn't heard before at night. A very enjoyable experience. There is a network of small trails onsite and a small outdoor games area with a very charming tree house. In the morning we used the bathroom beside the clubhouse near the entrance off the highway. The bathroom had a large shower, a cool skylight, and information about mountain biking and other amenities Grouseland offers. Outside were some cute goats looking at us as we left. Great stay, would recommend and stay again. Thanks so much Mason.

Loved camping on Andrey's land, very scenic, calming (river was close by) and everything we needed was just a short walk away. The store could not be more equipped. We forgot to bring ice and they had ice and firewood ready just in case we ran out. The bathhouses were clean and ready to go. Andrey came to check on us and let us know of activities that we could part take in during our stay. We would def come back here again. Thank you Andrey!

Our group camped at the Bridge Site on a rainy and cold weekend but we HAD A BLAST despite the less than perfect weather. The campground itself is a beautiful drive up into the mountains, and you can tell Andrey really takes care of the property and sites. We had a whole day of fishing in the river and enough space to spread out and play some darts at our campsite. The pavillion with ping pong table was a welcome reprieve from the rain and the kids had blast challenging to adults to the game! We also enjoyed a trip to general store (a very short walk) where we got some delicious fries and one of the best milkshakes I have had in awhile. I will also add the individual bath houses with private access was one of the more innovative things I have seen at a Hipcamp site. Very convenient and and appreciated by this mother of a special needs child. Overall - if you are looking for easy, convenient car camping and the opportunity to mix and mingle with other campers/locals - this is a great spot to have an adventure. You are also super close to Berkeley Springs and Paw Paw, which make great day trips for anyone doing a longer campout. Looking forward to coming back on a sunnier weekend to do some tubing!

I enjoyed the Twisted Oak site. The view was so serene. I couldn't stop looking at it! Very quiet place, clean, beautiful and a touch of whimsy. Perfect for families and also fun for group and solo camping. Several cool spots and trails on the grounds. Bathroom is heated and clean. I see myself returning again in the future. The directions were clear and the host was very friendly.

The view from this site was astonishing. We had a really nice picnic table and the best fire ring I've ever had at a campsite. The site was huge and the trails were a lot of fun to hike. There was a little water issue when we got there ands it was repaired immediately. I can't recommend this one enough!

Great brewery with fabulous art, great food, and a lovely view. Nice campsite away from the hubbub. For me the bathroom is more than a 2 min walk, but really great set up with private bathroom/shower combo.

Pablo and Lorena were great! Very hospitable and we had a wonderful nite in their Tree of Love. Enjoyed a walk along their road and got to take a quick dip in the Cacapon. Perfect spot if you’re in the Berkeley Springs area.

We camped in our tear drop on site 3, all sites would be great for tenting, small Rv or tear drop. It was quiet and the sites are huge! Lots of room for dogs and kids to play.
We had our 2 dogs with us and our hosts left them each a toy! They loved them!

Such a beautiful campsite. The sounds of the creek while you sleep along with star gazing at night while enjoying the fire was wonderful. We also had our puppy with us. She loved the open fields and was so curious about the adorable sheep in the property. Our host also was very attentive and he checked on us to make sure we didn’t need anything.
We did leave early because of the impending rain storm coming but would have loved to stay longer. We are already planning a 2nd trip and will bring friends along.

Masons’ land was 12/10. Seriously. The view is incredible, the sun sets right over the mountain you’re staring at in the photos. There is always a nice breeze it seems. Just beautiful setting. It is also quiet. Down below where your staying there is a road where will hear some traffic but it doesn’t bother you really.
The accommodations are great. Mason has some firewood for us, there are string lights in the trees and your own private porta potty is a nice touch. The water and electric is awesome for the site. And the water out of the spigot is delicious well water. Reminds me of growing up.
I’m sure I could keep going on and on. Oh also the camp shower and bathroom is awesome have and a short walk! Mason greeted us and is a very nice host. We will stay here again.

We had an incredible weekend at Jim’s property! If you are looking for absolute privacy and a true 'back to nature' feel, this is the spot. Being the only ones on the property made for a very peaceful and secluded stay.
Jim was a fantastic host—super friendly, welcoming, and very willing to help us navigate the terrain and get our 20-foot pop-up camper set up. While the drive-in can be a bit of a challenge for a 20-foot rig, we made it work, and Jim’s help was invaluable in getting us settled.
The location is perfect: extremely private, yet only about 25 minutes away from Winchester, VA, which has some great restaurants. Highly recommend this site if you value privacy and getting back to nature. Thanks for a great weekend, Jim!
