Acorn Palace was the perfect getaway for me. Everything was very nice and new, and Kristen thought of every possible detail. It’s close enough to the park that you could walk to the lake if you would like, but also feels very secluded. Kristen was very friendly, and hospitable. I would definitely like to return!

This is one of the most beautiful places my group has ever camped at! Direct waterfront, tons of space, and very clean bathrooms. The Hipcamp host was super nice and the little general store on site had everything you would need. We WILL be back!

Weekend Trip to WonderWoods at Rocky Gap

Pine Meadow Campsite was the perfect blend of seclusion, comfort, and natural beauty. While the campsite itself is small, there's plenty of space to spread out and relax. The grounds were spotless, and we were constantly serenaded by birds and delighted by the sight of rabbits hopping through the area. The real highlight, though, was the watershed—a beautifully maintained building featuring a half bath, a full bath with a standing shower, and a small but impressively stocked kitchenette. It had everything we could possibly need (and more!), and stepping inside felt like coming home after a long day of hiking and exploring. What made this stay even more special was the location. Nestled on private property right in the middle of Rocky Gap State Park, we had easy access to everything the park offers—without the crowds or the hassle of public campground facilities. And if I could give this stay six stars, I would—thanks entirely to our incredible host. She was kind, responsive, and truly went above and beyond to ensure we had everything we needed. Her hospitality made our trip unforgettable. We can’t wait to come back!

Weekend Trip to Camp Cedar Creek

David’s land is beautiful and picturesque for camping. We originally had site 4 booked, but site 1 also opened up, and David showed us both sites and let us choose. We went with site 1 because it was right next to the creek (site 4 still has a nice overlook of the creek and is more separated from the other sites, if that’s your preference). All of the sights seem to have plenty of privacy. David was super nice and helpful. He even helped us unload and load our gear in his truck since site 1 was difficult to drive up to in a vehicle with low clearance. And again, site 1 rules. It’s fantastic. We can’t wait to come back.

1 night at The Byrd's Nest on the River

Kara's space is SO beautiful and really exceeded our expectations -- so much so that we booked an extra night! The crows nest was perfect for my partner and I and the communal space down by the river is gorgeous. The string lights, multiple platforms, big fire pit, and sound of the river made us feel so easeful. It's also very conveniently located close to Berkeley Springs and Cacapon State Park. Highly recommend.

2 nights at Bear Run Farms

We stayed at one of the tent sites at Bear Run Farms and had a fantastic experience. The site is off-grid with no electricity or running water, but everything you need for a comfortable, quiet getaway is thoughtfully provided. The entire camping area, which includes a few other tent sites and small cabins, feels very secluded and is surrounded by open land with no neighboring properties in sight. The outhouse was impressively clean and even had solar lighting at night, which made it easy to find in the dark. The hosts went above and beyond by providing plenty of firewood, tiki torches, and fuel. It made evenings around the fire even better. We were the only campers there during our stay, but even if all the sites and cabins were in use, it would still feel more private than most campgrounds or state parks. There’s a brand-new playground for kids, and our dog loved being off-leash the whole time. She only got close to the cows once, but it was no problem. The lake was a highlight—clear, peaceful, and perfect for relaxing on the floating docks. We also really appreciated the total lack of cell service. It was exactly the unplugged experience we were hoping for. If you’re looking for a bit of town life or need supplies, Keyser, WV is just a quick drive away. Blackwater Falls State Park is also close by and made for a lovely afternoon outdoors. Highly recommend for anyone looking to get away and enjoy some quiet, rustic time in nature.

This is our second time joining camping at Eric's spot. We had 18 campers and we all had a great spot to lay out our tents. Eric had everything prepared including having bundles of wood waiting there for us making it super easy to set up and start the night. The port-a-potties are very clean and accessible. We love taking out the kayaks and boats on the lake as well as diving for a swim (you may want to watch out for the fish that like to take a nibble or two lol). Will definitely be coming back for our group camping next year

AMAZING spot!! Secluded, private and just beautiful! The outhouse is a total bonus. We had our two dogs with us that loved sniffing around and walking to the suspension bridge. We will definitely be back!!

We booked this Hipcamp spot for a guys’ weekend trip, and it absolutely delivered. The site was spacious, clean, and had everything we needed for a comfortable and laid-back stay. The grounds were beautiful—plenty of room to spread out, set up camp, and just relax around the fire pit after a day of hiking. There were several great trails just a short drive away, with killer views and solid elevation. Thanks again, Eric, for your hospitality. We’re looking forward to coming back!

It freakin RAINED all night Friday til like 2am. Fortunately, most of us pulled an all-nighter. 😂 However, the next day was absolutely beautiful - sunny with some clouds, and the background with the mountains almost felt surreal. 2 and a half hour drive from Baltimore, but when we reached Fort Valley, the scenery was gorgeous. That alone was worth the drive. The camp site? Secluded, especially at night; complete silence. Loved it. We had camp site #1 and there was plenty of space and right by the river and pond. We caught a good amount of decent sized fish (catch & release). Eric and his pops stopped by with their ATV's and were extremely friendly and accommodating. No complaints. Just keep in mind that the bathrooms are located right behind the white wall that says "THE WALL". At night, I had to take a #2 really bad and couldn't walk, so I drove. And drove. And drove. I even went past the "residential side" for a moment. That's when my friend, with a flashlight signaled me towards the bathrooms by the white wall. I'm sure Eric listed instructions on how to find the bathroom, but I couldn't go back and see because there was no reception there. That's the only *issue*, no reception. Not really an issue, but you know what I mean.... Overall, extremely happy to have had the pleasure and privilege to rent out Eric's property. Would definitely rent it out again!

Wild Yough Glamping Huts

Wild Yough is located in Southern Garrett County, Maryland very close to Herrington Manor State Park, Swallows Falls State Park, and the quaint mountain village of Oakland. The property adjoins thousands of acres of Garrett State Forest and hundreds of acres of state land along the Youghiogheny River. The world class Wisp resort and Deep Creek Lake are only minutes away. “Yough” is short for Youghiogheny River a state designated wild and scenic river which runs through the heart of the property. Wild Yough Glamping huts are part of more than 350 acres of private land, most of which is crisscrossed with hiking and biking trails. Youghiogheny is an Algonquin word meaning “a stream flowing in a contrary direction”, or in the case of the Yough, North toward Ohio Pyle and Pittsburgh. This section of the river is designated as a protected scenic corridor and you will feel the quiet isolation when sitting on the Crooked Butt Bench overlooking the big horseshoe bend in the river at the far back corner of our property. And if the river is low during your visit, feel free to wade across to the other side – Wild Yough owns the entire peninsula of land on the other side of the river and this is also bordered by State land.The river banks are steep on the property, but the fishing for small mouth bass is exceptional. There is a small turn around on the path just beyond Crooked Butt Bench where you can take out your canoe, kayak, or inner tubes after floating the 2+ miles from the Oakland bridge. Just be prepared to walk your water craft back up to the house or Glamping site as there is no motorized access to the river.If you like to lay on the rocks in the sun or take the kids for some wading in the river, the best place is the farthest to walk to. Take the trail to “High Bluff”, then cross the Snyder property line (Permission for trail access only – do not leave trail!), then descend down and cross the bridge across Herrington Manor Creek (a stocked trout stream!). The recreational draw to this area is hard to beat in VA and this property has it all for an amazing outdoor weekend! The ranch consists of 40 acres of low-land pasture, groomed perfectly for camping groups large or small. The Lakeside Mountain Stream site offers the option to camp on our 5-acre lake or camp creekside in the Cedar Grove sites along the banks of Passage Creek. Creek access varies at each site depending on the bank. The Ceadar Grove sites are just a short walk to the lake and beach amenities. The property has 1/2mi of Passage Creek wrapping around all the campsites, as well as, the privet lake to enjoy. I have all kinds of boats to try out and the waters are stocked with Bass, Blue Gill, and Catfish. Please catch and release. Passage Creek is stocked with Rainbow, Brown, Tiger, and Brook Trout throughout the year. The prime waters are just a mile upstream from Pastimes on Passage Creek Ranch. The Creekside Cedar sites are located within a sparse, groomed, Cedar grove along the banks of Passage Creek. These sites are extra large and can accommodate multiple family groups, as well as, travel trailers of all sizes up to off-road motorcoaches in site 1. There are no hookups, so It's just boondocking. Pack it in, Pack it out. Generators are allowed but please be aware of the other sites and direct the noise away. Groups of up to 25 people per site can realistically fit. Each site is very large with car camping space included. The Lakeside Mountain Stream site is very secluded, nestled between the mountains and the lake. It overlooks our 5-acre lake with mirror mountain views in the background. This site also has its own dock and is just a short walk down a mowed trail to a beautiful section of Passage Creek. An additional seasonal mountain stream can cascade behind the site and run under it to feed the lake when the conditions are right. The road can accommodate bumper pulls up to about 35ft to make the turn at the site. However, it is best suited for lighter traffic and smaller tent groups. At higher capacity, single-file parking is needed along the lake road. Max 10 people in order to keep some grass on the ground. Please, if you need more space - go to one of the Cedar Grove sites. Locally, the North end of Fort Valley offers many great hiking trails, trout fishing, rock climbing, horseback riding, and the Elizabeth Furnace day-use park. Taskers Gap OHV/ATV park is a short drive south, and the valley is sandwiched between both forks of the Shenandoah River for those looking to paddle. Additionally, the local towns (Front Royal, Strasburg, Woodstock) offer their own charm and wide range of activities and attractions.

All Ferns Most of the Time

This spot is best for a van camp location but plenty of space for tents and hammocks. You'll find a drive-up deck if you wish to park there. Firewood is available providing you use downfalls as kindling in the stone fire pit. A 8x20' deck and picnic table are 20 feet from the fire for stargazing. When the ferns are full grown they are 3 feet tall and everywhere. A 10 minute walk takes you through a dense pine forest with large rock formations and a nice creek with many gurgling fall areas. If there looks like a cave amongst the large rocks, then it probably is a bear den. There is a lot to do near by. Some note worthy locations : Cranberry Glade Lake (good for kayaking or fishing), Ohiopyle, 7 Springs, Fallingwater, Living Treasures, Caddie Shak, and Hidden Valley are all about 25 minutes away. This property also borders Laurel Ridge State Park. There is a Dollar General and a gas station about 15 minutes away for convenience needs.

Ferns in the Forest

Learn more about this land: This wooded area is 5 miles away from the Ohiopyle State Park whitewater launch area and GAP bike trail. We are less than 9 miles from Frank Lloyd Wright's Classic Fallingwater and about 8 miles from Kentuck Knob one of the last resident homes he designed (both are open for tours). Fort Necessity National Battlefield is 5 miles away. There are numerous native trout streams in the area. Youghiogheny Reservoir is 7 miles away for fishing, boat rentals, and water-sports. The Fern House is the primary camp cabin on the property. Although if someone would want to park a "self contained" camper or small RV on the property we would permit the unit to occupy the area in front of the driveway just pass the entrance gate. It is not within the ferns and is next to the road. There is an electrical outlet available at this small RV or van camper site. We are "nice pet" friendly. We have a mountain spring (when the spring is running) up the trail road (450 feet away). The ferns will normally be in full glory by the end of May to the beginning of October and are amazing, covering the forest floor. Deer, bear, wild turkey, fox, chipmunks, squirrels and many woodland birds abound the property especially owls. A picnic table, fire ring and firewood is available on the property. Free WiFi on the property as long as the plant life is not too thick! There is a mile hiking loop right on the property and many challenging trails in the area, including the starting point for the Laurel Highlands Hiking Trail.
