We have a 1/2 acre property on the Cowlitz River in the middle of Cooks Ferry Park in Castle Rock WA. We bought the property to relax in a beautiful setting close to home. We only live 15 minutes away. The property is made up of dredge spoils from when Mt. Saint Helens blew and is inside of a park where people can go to fish and enjoy the river. There are only 8 lots privately owned and we are the first lot that you come to. There is plenty of room for an RV. Guests can also tent camp or stay in our shack that has a sleeper sofa. There are snacks, a sign in book, an axe, briquets, a fire extinguisher, and other items the shack. ​There is a picnic table, fire pit, BBQ, and wood stove. There is a porta potty on the property. We value your privacy. We do have cameras on the property that are on when no one is there. Once a Hipcamper arrives at the property, they are turned off. We also keep our travel trailer there to enjoy when we can. We will never be there camping when you are there. In the summer, we sometimes kayak. We put in upriver and get out at the property. If it is booked at that time, we will always check first to see if it is okay for us to get out there. If you continue going past our property, there are some nice rock beaches with pretty views. People fish there and wade in the water in the summer. Castle Rock is a cute little town with some nice shops, restaurants and bars. I recommend checking it out! We are not picky about check in/check out time. It would only matter if someone else was checking in the day you are checking out. Please ask if you expect to arrive earlier or want to check out later. If your plans change, please cancel through Hipcamp to get a refund.

More than a century ago, the forests around Travers Mountain were home to one of Washington’s most mysterious figures — John Tornow, the Wildman of the Wynooche. Born in 1880, Tornow grew up as a gifted woodsman and hunter. He was known for his uncanny ability to move silently through the timber, living off the land with the skill of someone more animal than man. But his story turned dark after the tragic deaths of his nephews, the Bauer twins, whose family homestead you can still see from our property. Accused of their killings, Tornow fled deep into the wilderness. For nearly two years, he evaded every search party and posse that hunted him. Locals whispered that he was impossible to track — some even swore he could vanish into the trees like a ghost. He became both feared and respected, remembered as part outlaw, part legend. The tale ends in 1913, when a massive manhunt cornered Tornow in the woods. Even then, he fought fiercely, leaving his mark on Grays Harbor history forever. So when you camp here whether its under the trees-at Tornow’s Timberline, perched high at Outlaw’s Overlook, or gathered by the fire at Wildman’s Saloon Stop — listen closely to the night sounds. I travel for a living and this has to be my number one spot. It’s a safe location and the views are breathtaking. Nelda is absolutely amazing host and I would recommend this to anyone. I had a grill to cook on, power for the cold nights and plenty of room to roam and hike. 10/10!!

We chose this spot for our very first camping trip with our 1955 trailer - and it was beautiful! Private (though we had family at the next door spot - which worked perfectly!). Loved all the cute seating spots the owner set up throughout the property. The river was fabulous and we even took out the tubes (a bit cold on a 70 degree day, but so much fun!). 🤩

Definitely a must camp here! End of September so everyone just had been there for fishing season. Pretty much had the place to ourself. Everyone here is so welcoming and kind, we had full hook ups a few steps away from river and lots of land to have peaceful hikes. There a little house with just a full kitchen, washer and dryer and bathrooms even with a shower. A quick 35min drive from Astoria which we spent one of our days at. The lady assisting the owner was so kind to give my kids a golf cart tour of the dry camping area and were the walking trails are at. They loved it!!! Everything very well managed and cared for here. I do like to be able to drop trash instead of haul it back but not a deal breaker we will definitely be back.

The view and sounds of the river on this campsite were even better than we expected! It was clean, well-manicured and softly lit at night if you turn on the string lights above the site. It is pretty private, with just one set of neighbors who were also quiet. The river access is tricky from this site, and only for those who are very able to navigate a steep climb.

RV Site #1 and Tahoya River Lodge was great. The site was large, well landscaped and immaculately maintained. Being able to just relax while watching the river was great. Also it was a quick drive up to Silverdale or Poulsbo so the ability to do day trips from this spot was nice.

This space was beautiful - honestly, the photos for the RV sites don’t do it justice. Site one is more private than site 2, but both are spacious and impeccably kept. There is a community space directly next to site 2 (where the port-a-potty is) that is beautifully kept for all users of the two campsites and the Tahuya River lodge. We worried that on a hot weekend it would feel crowded, but it never did. There are tubes and other water fun things for all to use, and there were always plenty available for anyone wanting to use them. The swimming hole was just over 5’ deep in late August, and the water was super clean and refreshing. The hook-ups worked without any issues, and it’s clear the owners take great pride in how their space is cared for. The sites are along the Tahuya River, and the campsites themselves are very private. There are fences well-built to help keep you feeling like you are fully in nature. But the sites do exist in the context of a rural neighborhood. For us, the only challenging piece of that was the number of neighbor dogs who visited us throughout our stay. At least 6 dogs in the neighborhood have free range of the neighborhood, which was a challenge for us with our leashed, reactive dogs. All of the dogs were friendly and none posed any kind of threat whatsoever. If we hadn’t had our dogs with us, it would have just been a quirky/fun thing instead of a mildly problematic one. We would definitely recommend a stay here!

Campfire Tale: The Legend of John Tornow "The Wildman of the Wynooche." More than a century ago, the forests around Travers Mountain were home to one of Washington’s most mysterious figures — John Tornow, the Wildman of the Wynooche. Born in 1880, Tornow grew up as a gifted woodsman and hunter. He was known for his uncanny ability to move silently through the timber, living off the land with the skill of someone more animal than man. But his story turned dark after the tragic deaths of his nephews, the Bauer twins, whose family homestead you can still see from our property. Accused of their killings, Tornow fled deep into the wilderness. For nearly two years, he evaded every search party and posse that hunted him. Locals whispered that he was impossible to track — some even swore he could vanish into the trees like a ghost. He became both feared and respected, remembered as part outlaw, part legend. The tale ends in 1913, when a massive manhunt cornered Tornow in the woods. Even then, he fought fiercely, leaving his mark on Grays Harbor history forever. So when you camp here whether its under the trees-at Tornow’s Timberline, perched high at Outlaw’s Overlook, or gathered by the fire at Wildman’s Saloon Stop — listen closely to the night sounds. The owls, the wind, and the rustling branches might just remind you of the Wildman, still wandering in spirit through these hills.

We have a 1/2 acre property on the Cowlitz River in the middle of Cooks Ferry Park in Castle Rock WA. We bought the property to relax in a beautiful setting close to home. We only live 15 minutes away. The property is made up of dredge spoils from when Mt. Saint Helens blew and is inside of a park where people can go to fish and enjoy the river. There are only 8 lots privately owned and we are the first lot that you come to. There is plenty of room for an RV. Guests can also tent camp or stay in our shack that has a sleeper sofa. There are snacks, a sign in book, an axe, briquets, a fire extinguisher, and other items the shack. ​There is a picnic table, fire pit, BBQ, and wood stove. There is a porta potty on the property. We value your privacy. We do have cameras on the property that are on when no one is there. Once a Hipcamper arrives at the property, they are turned off. We also keep our travel trailer there to enjoy when we can. We will never be there camping when you are there. In the summer, we sometimes kayak. We put in upriver and get out at the property. If it is booked at that time, we will always check first to see if it is okay for us to get out there. If you continue going past our property, there are some nice rock beaches with pretty views. People fish there and wade in the water in the summer. Castle Rock is a cute little town with some nice shops, restaurants and bars. I recommend checking it out! We are not picky about check in/check out time. It would only matter if someone else was checking in the day you are checking out. Please ask if you expect to arrive earlier or want to check out later. If your plans change, please cancel through Hipcamp to get a refund.

Thank you for an amazing 2025 season. We will see you back in the spring of 2026. Book your events and campouts now before the season fills up! We are located on a very private property (the only houses you will see are across the inlet) surrounded by nature but only about 10 minutes from downtown Olympia and 5 minutes from I-5 and Lacey. The property is situated on the very south end of Henderson Inlet. We are on the tide flats so twice a day (at high tide) we have the opportunity to explore on the water in canoes and kayaks. The property is spread over 16 acres and is comprised of two large fields (one in front of our home and the other is a smaller meadow off to the side (hidden meadow) and forest land. There is tons of space for playing, exploring and tiring out your kids and pups! Wildlife is abound with eagles, hawks, owls, falcons, shore birds and a variety of forest birds make this place their home. We are also frequented by the local deer who wonder through and say hi. About the campground: The campground is located in the far northeast corner of the property on the edge of the forest and meadow. In the common areas you will find the porta potty, shower and sink. There is also a supply closet that has the yard games and extra supplies. There is a hot tub situated right on the edge of the forest with peek-a-boo views of the inlet. You will also find garbage and recycling bins. There are trails throughout the forest along the 600 feet of water (tide) front. Along the trails you will find several different benches, seats and swings to relax and enjoy nature from. There are also fairies and gnomes who have been sighted in the forest. If you look closely, you might spot one too! We ware, if you touch a fairy or gnome they do lose their magical powers so please respect the mystical creatures. 😊 The sites are about 500 feet from our house and offer great privacy. You may see us throughout the day and evening coming and going from the campground, working on the property or playing with the kids on the trails!

This is a gorgeous park-like RV campground situated between the trees of the arboretum. No tents, please. Also we have NO public restrooms. Beautiful view of the mountains and forests here in western Washington. We are close to Mt. St. Helens and Mt. Rainier and several lakes. There are walking trails all around the site. The 12 acre campground is located on a 136 acre property that is an active Christmas tree farm. Trails continue throughout the tree farm. Many trails have a view of the Tilton River, which can be reached via a challenging 3/4 mile trail. Sites are on 10 acres planted with many different species of trees that are about 30 years old. Giant Redwoods, Cedars, and Maples are just a few of the varieties present. Part of the farm is still a working Christmas tree farm. The trails are wide and grassy. The old logging road that we use as a trail to the river has an elevation change of about 500 feet, the trail can be quite challenging. Bear Creek empties into the Tilton river at the end of the trail. There is an ART GALLERY where you can learn to pound flowers, see the host's artwork and get a cup of coffee! This is upstairs above the shop, right on the property. Tilton River Studio Gallery. Three sites have electrical hookups. Every site has a water spigot (use a pressure regulator if you want to hook up). No restrooms or sewer hookups. Garbage disposal site available Memorial Day to Labor Day. Recently, we have enhanced our facilities by adding two cozy cabins in the upper park and two RV spots equipped with electric and water hookups. Reservations for these sites can be made by contacting our office. Additionally, we have relocated the playground for the enjoyment of our younger guests and installed showers for your convenience. Please note that the lower loop road is currently closed, so trailers, boats, and RVs are not permitted in the lower park. Riffe Lake Campground features 17 RV sites with full hookups, 18 RV sites with water and power hookups, 13 tent sites, 8 group sites, and 5 rustic camper cabins. Here, you can indulge in a variety of outdoor activities such as kayaking, canoeing, swimming, boating, and fishing.
