What makes W.T. Farm special is the diversity of textures of the landscape. We have great mountain top views, as well as, a deep holler with cliffs, rock outcroppings, and waterfalls. The fields are full of fruit and nut trees and there are 5 ponds. Each of these supports its own flora and fauna. I acquired stewardship of this land years ago and have developed perennial orchards wherever possible. I started with pears and have branched out into pawpaws, apples, persimmons, currants, black walnuts etc. and I boast that I planted the first commercial hickory oil orchard in the world. I am an eccentric horticulturalist and graft cultivar varieties onto existing trees like oaks, hickories, black walnuts, and even the maligned invasive honeysuckle, autumn olive and multiflora rose. Just last year I bought an adjoining farm that opened up 50 acres of more orchard planting. It is on top of the mountain and offers an expansive view of the valley and ridge system that defines our region. Funny thing is that because the land between the old farm and the new farm is divided by cliffs in the holler the only way to get from one to the other is a 12 minute drive or vigorous hiking. On this new land is a historic log cabin I am renovating that is said to be one of the original settler's cabin on the mountain. Because of the amount of tree fruit I grow and the varied landscape, there is a rich diversity of birds and animals to be seen. One of my favorite walks is along the cliffs to the top waterfall where there is a sweet wading pool. I have also built a number of ponds and four of them are quite swimmable. One has a dock and is where we spend much summer time refreshing and frolicking. The farm is also a small (very small) licensed farm winery and we make and sell traditional hard cider from our apples and pears. Our cider can be purchased along with our nut oils and flours and other farm produce you may not be familiar with. We live to eat. Coming here is a gastronomical adventure! I run the Acornucopia project from here and from it we are developing a foragers network that would very much suit the lifestyle of hipcampers. We pay foragers for wild nuts they gather. The cabins are primitive, no electric or water. There are solar lights inside and and out also a propane wall heater for chilly nights. This is comfortable camping in the Beautiful Mountains of WV. This property was once a 300 acre plus tobacco farm. We are located within two miles of the Blue Ridge Parkway and the Appalachian trail via a gated, public, forest road. Hikers should park at their campsite and walk up. The original log cabin was built in the 1850s and now serves as our dining room. The front portion of the house was completed in April of 1861 and the back in the early 1900s. We have plans to eventually turn it into a working farm which produces tinctures, salves and extracts of various native plants. Learn more about this land: Heavily wooded mountain side with flowing creek. Easy access (walking distance) to Jefferson National Forest, National Forest horse trail and the Blue Ridge Parkway and the Appalachian Trail. (Note: You cannot drive to the Blue Ridge Parkway as the path is an old forest road which has been gated, but you can walk up to it.)  We also have a tree house which has AC, heat and electrical connection.     You may camp anywhere on the property.  There is plenty of frontage on the creek and several tents can go up there. A small washer dryer is also available. Please note, these can accommodate only small loads of laundry. You'll find bath towels and smaller towels specifically for drying off after a relaxing soak in the hot tub. We've stocked quality shampoo, conditioner, and body wash, as well as some basic toiletries in case a guest forgets to bring an item. In the living room, the 55" TV streams Netflix, Hulu or any app on the Roku TV (you will need your own log in). The internet is provided by Starlink and is high speed! The queen bedroom also has a Roku TV, and a selection of board games, cards, and some children's activities are available below the TV. Outdoor Amenities: Take a relaxing soak in the hot tub while watching the local wildlife in the meadow. Enjoy our spacious fire pit area, complete with Adirondack chairs with a grill grate—perfect for evening s'mores or grilling under the stars. Purchased 25 years ago, Wolf Creek Preserve is a 450-acre private nature preserve. The Corn Crib is a former corn crib where corn was stored and dried after harvest. The structure's underpinnings and exterior layout date to the late 1800s, but it was first renovated in 2004 as a hunting cabin. The Corn Crib was transformed into its current tiny-home design in 2017, with additional improvements continuing through 2025. The structure was part of an old farm that included several buildings, including a Victorian home that once served as a stagecoach stop and hotel in the 1800s. The property sits along the banks of Wolf Creek, and we own most of the land surrounding it. There are long stretches of creek, pasture, and woodland to explore. This listing features a rustic, historic corn crib from the late 1800s that has been thoughtfully updated with modern amenities, though it remains a quirky and compact space. Please note that the A/C unit and heat pump are portable and located next to the loft bed. Guests sleeping in the loft must climb narrow stairs, which may not be suitable for elderly guests or those with mobility concerns. The water comes from a well, and we do not recommend drinking it. At times, the water may have a slight sulfur smell, so guests who are sensitive to odors should be aware. The smell is not always present but may occur occasionally. Cozy Bear sits right by the large noisy, trout stocked creek, with a private hot tub between the creek and the cabin, and less than five miles from Hillsville, which has a grocery store, local shops, a gym, dining, and nearby hiking. There is a shared bathhouse with a conventional toilet and an outside shower, shared with tent guests occasionally. Inside Cozy Bear, there is a queen mattress up in the loft, and a sleeper sofa downstairs. The kitchen has a sink, coffee maker and on the deck is a blackstone griddle, a propane firepit and a wood burning firepit is by the creek. Cozy Bear has a composting toilet and a shower in the bathroom, an ac window unit and a beautiful propane fireplace. If the temps get extreme outside, the waterlines do freeze. I will gladly do a full refund or change your dates if the forecast is well below freezing, although this cabin is cozy and warm inside. Cozy Bear is solar power/ and grid and is a six mile drive to I-77 and the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Weekend Trip to Beaverdam Falls

What a lovely piece of land. Unique is an understatement. We loved all the bridges, short hiking trails, and the SUPER rare sulphudic cave right on the property. We stayed at "Top of the Rock II" and only have good things to say about the little cabin. You are literally camping at the top of the waterfall, just incredible. Toilet/Bathroom Situation: - there are two pristine portajohns just a 30 second walk away from the site - if you have a more urgent situation, they did outfit the cabin with a bucket toilet (honestly, it was about as classy as a bucket toilet can get) - it was hidden beneath a wooden toilet box with proper liners In the receptacle) Shower Situation: - They have a shared "lounge" in a small trailer where you can access an indoor toilet, running water, and a heated indoor shower. - The shower left a bit to be desired, the shower didn't drain particularly well, but at least the water was hot. Kitchen: - there is a private picnic table outside of the cabin with a wooden cupboard that contains a bunch of cutlery, plates, lighters, and even a butane camp stove

I needed a place to stay on my way to Tennessee from New York and Roni’s place was the perfect location. The sheets and pillowcases on the bed were freshly washed and it was such a bonus to have a small heater and air conditioner as it was hot during the day and got chilly at night. I met Roni on the day I was leaving and she is such a wonderful person. She made sure we knew how to get there before hand, as you don’t have service on your way to the site. It is worth noting that there is no service there, however, you can connect to the Wi-Fi near Ronnie‘s house and take a short walk to get a few bars. There are other dogs and people on the property in close proximity, however it still felt very private when we were in the treehouse and we even had one of the neighbors dogs be our guide when we took a walk would definitely stay again!

Loved this spot and even chose to extend my stay. All the grit of camping but with the added luxury of having a nice place to sleep! Will definitely be rebooking soon! Was able to access the spot and turn around in my ford transit van with a rack on top.

Weekend Trip to 12 Gates Farms

We stayed two nights in the treehouse while in the area for an event. We didn’t get to take full advantage of the property since we left in the mornings and arrived after dark both days, but enjoyed the time we spent there! We planned to camp at first, but the treehouse seemed like a better bet since the temperatures were cool in mid-April. It was at least ten degrees warmer inside than outside, which was perfect (so no need to even turn the heat on during our stay.) The mattress and bedding were comfortable and cozy. Everything was very quiet and peaceful. Roni was quick to answer questions and was very friendly and helpful. Neat little place and would definitely return!

The A-frame by the waterfalls was the perfect oasis I could ask for. The cabin was full of supplies, and the land was full of places to explore. Beau came to greet me, and he was very kind and helpful. Can’t wait to stay again next spring break!

Absolutely amazing! Had everything we needed and nothing we didnt for some simple primitive camping in a cabin. Fair warning my lil Toyota Corolla did have trouble going up the gravel driveway (entirely my fault, just realized after getting home my tires are almost bald and have no tread/traction) but Darin & Beth were incredibly helpful and were kind enough to assist us and was still able to make it to the cabin 😊 cannot state enough how magical this place is, it was so quiet and peaceful. Thanks Darin & Beth for your kindness and awesome hospitality, cannot wait to go back! 🫶🏼🏕️🔥

Weekend Trip to Marshall Creek Farm

Darin and Beth didn’t miss a thing planning this hilltop cabin. The gravel driveway is steep but we had no issue climbing up to the site in a Ford Transit 250 2wd loaded heavy. Our height clearance is 9’9”. All we can say is it was a super well thought out layout and includes just enough to simply pull up and start camping in minutes. Lots of extras to discover as well. Our dog loved it. We camped at end of March so trees were still bare and the night sky was visible.

Weekend Trip to Beaverdam Falls

If you love the wilderness, being alone, exploring, and being unplugged, this place is absolutely for you. I stayed in an A-Frame cabin that had a direct view of the large waterfall. The campsite was fully equipped with absolutely everything I needed. Three different ways to cook, firepit, grill, and little stove. All of the utensils, pots and pans to cook with and dishes to eat from. A little camping toilet in the cabin. The ceilings were so amazing and the bed was very comfortable. The hosts were very VERY responsive and accommodating. I would 100% recommend this experience to anyone who needs to find themselves. It definitely provided my soul what it needed.
