Sharp's Island is so named because the Sharp family of Richmond owned it as far back as the 1850s. The old brick foundation you see in the pictures is all that remains of a house that was built on the island in 1895 and stood for 75 years! We consider ourselves stewards of an amazing historic, ecological, geologic, and recreational asset, and we would love to have you add your story to this island's long history!

One-of-a-kind really only begins to describe 1-acre Sharp's Island! For starters, this is the only legal camping option in the city of Richmond. You read that correctly. This is your own private island, and it's right in the heart of downtown RVA! The Piedmont meets the Coastal Plain right here at Sharp's Island. That makes for amazing fishing, especially during the spring shad and striper runs.
Some other incredible things about camping at Sharp's Island: You can motor up to it from Ancarrow's Landing, canoe over from the trail just below Mayo Bridge, or make this the destination for your downriver raft/kayak trip; at summer river levels there are oodles of great swimming holes along the banks; fire pit ready and waiting for you. If you’re down for a little history (and maybe a little mystery) Cedarville State Forest will definitely dazzle. The 3,510 acre forest was once the winter camping ground of the Piscataway Tribe because of the mild climate and abundance of game. Legend claims that there is a Native American burial ground within the forest... but it has yet to be found. Spooky! Equestrian, family and youth group campsites are available for your overnight stay. 19.5 miles of horseback riding, hiking and mountain biking trails weave through the forest. They pass a number of historical features, including the loblolly pine plantations that were planted by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930's, by a charcoal kiln, and through farm areas whose springs and streams were used to make moonshine!

The house was so cute a cozy. It is a real house with electricity, internet, TV, dvd player, and Netflix, a full kitchen, and the bathroom is right beside the upstairs bedroom. The view from the bed in the morning was a beautiful huge tree in the field. Down the hill is a very large pond. I can see a float and canoes that would be great in the summer. There is a huge pavilion beside the lake with couches, a long table, chairs, a grill, and a refrigerator. There are two outside RV toilet stalls at the lake too. When I drove in I saw horses in a field and a little donkey running around, playing in a a pen. I stopped and watched. Close to the house they have goats in a pen and they wanted me to pat them. The owner, Maria, told me I could. She also has a pig and chickens. I enjoyed the solitude but this place would be wonderful for a family outing or corporate retreat. I forgot a few things, so Maria directed me to a nearby Walmart in Tappahannock. I highly recommend a stay at Maria's farm.

This site is a lively maintained and isolated site. Unfortunately our scheduling wouldn’t let us stay the night, but Shane allowed us to check in early and enjoy the property for the day. I would love to come back and camp overnight soon.

Kelly and her family were very kind. I am a traveling vendor and one market ended up having me back on their property around midnight. They were so helpful in making sure I would know where to go and not disturb anyone. Great communication from the beginning and they were very helpful with anything that I needed! Great spot for camping and fishing. We had three tents and a tarp and had a ton of room. Caught a couple of perch and bullhead. Easy instructions to get to the place which felt nice and remote. Great sunset views as well. Watch your step around the banks as high water at some point did some serious erosion. The owner has a set up steps to get down to the beach, which were very helpful. Also if you’re planning on having a fire you may want to bring some wood ahead of time. There is a bunch of ash and some oak around the property that the owner was gracious enough offer up to us, but much of it was older and rotted. Some other reviews mentioned the drag strip nearby which you can hear (along with the occasional shotgun blast from hunters), but neither of those things really bothered us. Country store nearby with coffee, beer, liquor ice and gas. About 90 minutes from DC (no traffic). Closer to 2.5 hours if you leave DC at 3pm during the week. Overall a great spot if you’re looking for a quick weekend getaway from the city.

We had a wonderful time in this campsite ! The view of the water was serene, the campsite itself expansive and the instructions clear. Shane was responsive and communicated everything clearly. We had a beautiful weekend. Definitely recommend!

Shane’s water view spot is absolutely amazing. We were going to go to Assateague, but decided to ditch the long OSV line and sold out camp reservations. Instead we got our own little Assateague. Clean spot, and very quiet. Shane was also very helpful in terms of amenities. We will stay here again

We had an amazing weekend camping right by the water. The site is clean, spacious, and offers beautiful lake views - waking up to the sound of nature was unforgettable.
Cooking by the fire with steak and corn made the experience even better, and taking our inflatable boat out on the lake was so much fun.
Overall, it's the perfect mix of relaxation and adventure. Highly recommended, and we'd love to come back

Weekend Trip to Circe The Airstream
We had such a wonderful stay at the Circe! It was such a lovely getaway for slow mornings, sipping on coffee, reading and enjoying the views. Our favorite thing to do was cook dinner and eat outside under the stars. Mark was a great host and Colonial Beach is just 4 minutes away. We will definitely be back again!

We had an amazing time camping on Shane’s land! The property is spacious, peaceful, and extremely clean. It was the perfect spot for our family to relax and enjoy nature. The river nearby was a highlight — we spent hours fishing, kayaking, and paddleboarding. Shane was friendly and checked in to make sure everything was going well. We couldn’t have asked for a better way to celebrate the 4th of July. Highly recommended for anyone looking to disconnect and enjoy a quiet outdoor getaway!

The site was very private and very peaceful! Lots of open space to set up your tent and chairs facing the water for relaxing! I was able to easily get to the little beach front with my paddle board and get onto the water and enjoy the day. I will definitely be camping here again!

This was our second trip back to Peace of Earth and it was just as good as the first time! The kids wore themselves out playing in the treehouse, visiting the animals, and walking the trails. Hosts are great folks!
