Other options include the water park at the Massanutten Resort, just around the mountain from us, or kayaking on the Shenandoah River. Hiking and exploring the woods is welcome, but don’t stray to the neighbors We recently acquired a rare chicken breed, Scots Dumpies, and are trying to increase the flock, so there may be a chance to see baby chicks. The Stars do their thing on clear nights and are an amazing sight with the near zero light pollution. We love to view the stars and Moon in all her phases. We try to keep your need to bring much to a minimum, so we provide plenty of blankets and pillows ( or sleeping bag if desired), dishes and some cookware for over-the-fire meals, towels and wash cloths if a rain barrel “cat bath” is in order :), hand soap and toilet paper too! Life is in constant fluctuation up here at our mountain home, which is how we like it! Camp out with us and see why!

We were looking for a small place for a short getaway near the Shenedoah Valley. This was perfect! The little cabin had a futon and a top bunk bed. There was a chest beside the bed that had extra blankets and also doubled as a table. A small fire burning stove sat in the corner for warmth and cooking adjacent to a rocking chair and there was a cabinet with extra bedding. The beds were already made and included pullows. There was an area rug down to keep feet warm. Outside was a fire pit for the cabin and just down the hill was a large community fire pit. The bathroom (in a seperate shed) was a small hand made toilet with a wood shaving bucket to cover waste (I actually prferred this to the typical porta potty as they smell awful). This toilet was well maintained. We brought our own drinking water, but they will provide for you upon request. There is no shower, so bring your Dude Wipes if you plan on staying a bit. This is not a place for anyone who needs alot of comforts from home or are use to staying in hotels. It is rustic! But if you can appreciate the little things, this is for you. There are also two Collies that live there who will come visit you ro make sure you are safe ❤️. We definitely would recommend this place! Booking was easy and the owner came down to check on us to make sure we had everything we needed. We WILL return!

Quite a beautiful drive up to the top of the hill with the changing trees. Very secluded property, cabin and outhouse located at the base of the driveway with the main house just behind. Adorable porch, so so cozy and clean inside, great little woodstove. The toilet is conveniently located in a shed and very clean. It was my friend’s first time ever camping and she happily used it! Lol. Such a great place to unwind after a day of hiking!

This is an amazing high elevation location that I really enjoyed. It was very peaceful and there was plenty of firewood for cooking. The cabin was comfy and also had a comfy hangout spot on the porch. I also liked the rain barrel water that was provided. Toilet in the toolshed and trash situation was fine but could maybe stand an upgrade. Also, advance communications through text to deliver instructions sounded a bit brusk and reprimanding. I feel travelers could use a more welcoming approach citing specifically which HipCamp is being referred to, since they may be juggling many sites and also may be tired and doing there best to meander up this back mountain road (after many hours on major roadways) , so a warmer tone for communications would do wonders in my opinion.

5 Stars – A Hidden Gem by the River! Our group absolutely loved the stay at this riverside campsite! The sound of the river at night was incredibly soothing. The site itself felt private and tucked away—perfect for relaxing and disconnecting. The fire pit was a great touch and made evenings extra cozy. Overall, such a unique and tranquil experience. The host was also fantastic—communication was clear, friendly, and timely. Highly recommend if you're looking for a peaceful escape in nature!

This was such a wonderful stay!! We had a very comfortable sleep and loved all the details in the house. We made a fire outside and they provided firewood for sale which was very helpful! Upon arrival, we were greeted by their awesome dogs too which was great. I would totally stay here again, and we had a restful and peaceful stay!

We had a great experience at the Collie cottage! Kristy was an excellent communicator. We were greeted by the collies, which made my son’s evening. They were the friendliest dogs ever! The space was very peaceful and private. We enjoyed relaxing on the outdoor couch and playing mancala. We did have trouble finding the outhouse, even with the map, but the previous comment on here about it looking like a tool shed was very helpful! My son says the bed “is the comfiest bed ever,” so Kudos from him, too! Thank you for sharing your space with us!

I absolutely love coming to this campsite! This was my second trip to Peggy’s and she is a fantastic host. The kids had a great time playing in the river and chasing the frogs around, we did get to see a black snake which my son was chasing trying to make a new friend. Unfortunately I had to cut my trip short due to a family emergency and Peggy was very understanding about the situation. She offered for us to come back another time to use the rest of our nights so we don’t lose them and I have to admit, I can’t wait till we go again. Five stars all the way just a great site to visit with your family.

My recent camping trip to Scot and Peggy's property was an absolute delight, offering a truly peaceful and secluded escape. From the moment of booking, Scot and Peggy were incredibly responsive and communicative, making the entire process seamless and stress-free. Their clear communication ensured there were no issues whatsoever. The campsite itself was ideally situated right on the river, providing several convenient access points along the various sites. This was a fantastic feature, allowing for easy enjoyment of the water. Beyond the individual sites, there was a large, inviting field and common area, perfect for guests who wished to gather and socialize. What truly stood out was the quiet and secluded nature of the site. It offered a beautiful and serene environment, perfect for unwinding and reconnecting with nature. Another great stay (despite the rain!). The hosts are very friendly and easy to communicate with and the sites are very well maintained. The flushable toilet is bonus. We loved swimming in the Hazel on a hot day. There are three contiguous sites which are fairly private and an amazing common area with gazebo right on the river that would make a great location for a family reunion. Hope to be back with the kids and grandkids!

The host was super friendly, respectful, and a life saver because although there is a guest guide with all the nearby stores, he lent us propane when we went to make dinner and realized I got the wrong one! The property was clean, well maintained, and my daughter loved saying hi to the chickens and playing with the collies (who are super calm and friendly!). We loved everything about this place and it was perfect for us. This was a last minute reservation incase of bad weather but we’re already planning on another trip back.

We have a level site to enjoy. Our farm is bordered on 3 sides by water. The campsite is located on Peters Mill Creek. The back of our property is bordered by passage creek. It offers peaceful and private fishing for trout, bass, suckers and several varieties of pan fish. Cool off in the summer with a dip in the cool clean waters or relax and read a book with the sounds of nature. You can enjoy the cows, horses and goats who love the attention! However we ask you let us know before trying to pet or interact with the animals because we do have a Livestock Guardian Dog inside the fence with them and she is very protective of her herd. In the spring and summer we offer for sale fresh eggs and organic produce to our guest. Our property is located in the heart of Fort Valley. We have miles of hiking trails all around. There are 2 horse back riding camps in the area to offer a beautiful view of our area on horseback. The activities are endless. Several excellent wineries are within a short diving distance. There is a fire ring at each site and we provide a free bundle of wood to each guest with more bundles available for $4 each. A porta potty is also located on the property for our guest. Please read the rules and recomendations posted at the site when you arrive. There is no lifeguard on duty, so you swim at your own risk. Although the creek is pretty shallow most of the time, we ask that if you have children, they are supervised at all times, especially around the water. We think you will love our little piece of heaven and we look forward to your visit!

Camper vans are welcome at the main farm! Our farm store includes our Animal Welfare Approved products such as Eggs, Chicken, Beef, Pork, Lamb and Dairy, as well as produce, jams, coffee and other items from our local community. We offer camping essentials, local art, bike rentals, farm experiences and tours. The property has miles of trails along mountain spring-fed streams, a small pond and access to three private acres on the Robinson River, a stocked Trout stream, just 2 miles down the road. Our property is centrally located to White Oak Canyon (20 minutes) and Old Rag Mountain (10 minutes) trailheads in the Shenandoah National Park as well as many vineyards and breweries. Welcome to Swift Run Campground & Pool, a hidden gem nestled in the heart of Elkton, Virginia, where nature meets comfort. Our campground offers a unique blend of outdoor adventure and relaxation, making it the perfect destination for families and outdoor enthusiasts alike. Conveniently located at 19540 Spotswood Trail, Swift Run Campground features a total of 58 sites, including 50 main campground sites suitable for both campers and tents, as well as 8 overflow tent sites. Please note that we do not have cabins available for rent at this time. Our RV and camper sites can accommodate vehicles up to 44 feet in length and offer 20, 30, and 50 AMP service, with back-in access only. Guests can enjoy our year-round shower house, equipped with hot and cold water, which is heated during the winter months. During the warmer seasons, take a dip in one of our two swimming pools: a smaller private pool exclusively for campers and a larger public pool open to all guests. For fishing enthusiasts, a nearby pond offers catch-and-release fishing, though nighttime fishing is not permitted.
