The last 4 years of hosting have been an adventure! We’ve met many guests, listened to suggestions, and often worked all night on property improvements. We are grateful for the opportunity to introduce country life and the Shenandoah Valley to travelers from around the world. We love animals, planting gardens, preserving quality food, and hiking in both of the world-famous national parks here.
We built an all-season full capacity hot shower bathhouse with flush toilet, A-frame cabin, bigger electrical service, and wider road entrance for 30ft RVs, and Wi-Fi.
We are located 45 minutes from the Shenandoah National Park. If you are a hiker or outdoor adventure seeker, or just want to experience local culture and history, please reach out to us and we will help you plan your trip. My husband and I first lived on this property shortly after marrying 17 yrs ago, we moved to AK and back in 2013 and have been building our homestead from the ground up ever since. We love this mountain and consider our home a Beautiful Magical Place! We daily connect with the glorious natural elements surrounding us and give thanks constantly. We’ve learned a lot over the years about living with The Land and want to share this space with like-minded others. We tend to “rise with the Sun, and sleep when it’s done”, so don’t be surprised if you see David or myself, or our kids playing/working on site. If you like to chat, we’re usually available, if you like your privacy, we respect that too. There are a handful of neighbors, and sometimes cars travel up or down the road, but generally this is a quiet, peaceful area. Our two old time scotch collies keep most wildlife away, but once in a while you get a glimpse of turkey, or hawks, rabbits, etc…. Hiking and exploring the woods is welcome, but don’t stray to the neighbors
We recently acquired a rare chicken breed, Scots Dumpies, and are trying to increase the flock, so there may be a chance to see baby chicks. The Stars do their thing on clear nights and are an amazing sight with the near zero light pollution. We love to view the stars and Moon in all her phases.
We try to keep your need to bring much to a minimum, so we provide plenty of blankets and pillows ( or sleeping bag if desired), dishes and some cookware for over-the-fire meals, towels and wash cloths if a rain barrel “cat bath” is in order :), hand soap and toilet paper too!
Life is in constant fluctuation up here at our mountain home, which is how we like it! Camp out with us and see why!

The property has miles of trails along mountain spring-fed streams, a small pond and access to three private acres on the Robinson River, a stocked Trout stream, just 2 miles down the road. Our property was a small family farm for several generations. Our family purchased the property about 18 years ago. Since we are not farmers but love living here, the question became "What would be the best use for the land?" Living in a scenic area and already being in the vacation rental business on some other family property answered the question. We decided to share the beautiful view and seclusion of our area with others.
Our goal was to keep the cost of building down so that we could pass on the savings to you so that you would not have to be rich to enjoy our lovely area. This inspired the idea of a glamping cabin. The cabin is actually a repurposed office building that was built about the time this property was purchased by our family. We moved it to the present location and completely remodelled it in 2018 and added the bathroom. For 4 years, guests enjoyed an off-the-grid experience.
In 2023, when we began work on the glamping dome (stay tuned--coming soon!!), we decided to add electricity, running water, and a hot tub to the tiny house!
We hope you enjoy the cabin (and, soon, the dome) and the stunning view from them as much as we enjoy sharing this beautiful spot with you!
Note: The Charming Glamping Cabin is at a totally different property. That property also has a section that used to be farmed. Now a lot of it is forest. We purchased the property around 2000. This cabin was built approx. 10 years later. At that point, the cabin was a tiny economy cabin with a sofa bed. However, it seemed most folks preferred comfort over economy, so in 2020, we added a bump-out to the side of the cabin so there would be room for a queen bed. Guests have loved the improvement. (:

Outside, guests can enjoy a private hot tub, barrel sauna, private pond, kayaks when available, disc golf, archery, a fire pit area, outdoor seating, and peaceful mountain surroundings. It is a rare place where you can spend the day exploring Shenandoah, then come back to soak, sauna, play games, watch a movie, or sit under the stars.
Good to know: this is a peaceful mountain property, not a party house. Quiet hours are required, fireworks are not allowed, and guests must respect the land, neighbors, wildlife, and house rules. Pets must be pre-approved. Outdoor fires are only allowed when local rules and conditions permit.

Both sites are fantastic. Amazing views from the summit, and the cabin at the small site is super cozy. Dave was very helpful and gave great recommendations for both great hikes and cool things to do in the towns near the site. I would absolutely stay here again.

I loved it! In all honesty, I wish the grass had been cut a bit more recently. It was extremely tall and hadn't been weed whacked in quite some time.
Otherwise, the overall experience was fantastic. Peaceful and quiet. Just what I needed.

Both my kids caught fish from the ponds on the property. First fish ever caught for my son! Priceless!!

My family and I have stayed in the retreat cabin twice so far. We absolutely love it there. The property is gorgeous, the river adds to the beautiful charm, and the cabin has all of the creature comforts you could want for glamping. 10/10 would recommend. Already planning to come back as soon as we can!

A beautiful mountain escape backing right up to Shenandoah National Park. The setting alone makes this place feel special, and the cabin absolutely lives up to it.
The drive in is about 15 minutes along a dirt road with a steeper final stretch, but it’s very manageable and worth it for the privacy. You’re also only about 25 minutes from the Swift Run Gap entrance, making park access easy.
The cabin had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The mountain themed decor made it feel warm and inviting, the cots were surprisingly comfortable, and having dog beds already there was a huge bonus. Our dogs loved it.
If the upper tent campsite isn’t booked, which you can reserve as well, you might have the opportunity to hike the half mile trail up to it and take in a gorgeous overlook. It’s about a 30 minute uphill hike with roughly 500 feet of elevation gain and well worth it. We stayed during some on and off rain and still had a great trip. Even without a view at the top, it was still a really enjoyable hike.
The nearest grocery store is about 25 minutes away in Stanardsville at the Greene Great Valu, which was convenient for anything we needed.
Make sure to check out South River Falls, one of the most beautiful waterfall hikes in Shenandoah National Park.
Overall, a peaceful and scenic stay. We would definitely come back!

Weekend Trip to Love Ridge Mountain Lodging
My wife and I loved glamping here. The cabin was clean, well maintained and very cozy. The cabin was outfitted like a tiny home with everything we needed to do some cooking, as well as a good size garden tub/ jacuzzi inside. You might get a stop by from the camp site cat (she is very sweet and will hang out with you on the patio) We enjoyed this so much we are planning to come back over the summer; highly recommend Love ridge if you need a cozy cabin in the blue ridge mountains!
